Its too bad you couldn't get the turbo to sit just a little bit lower!

Looks like you need to incorporate the DSM hood power bulge.

I think some filing could have been done on the turbo and shortened it enough to clear the hood. At least the cut is small and nice. Doesn't look too bad. Same with the car. Nice.

Wow, that thing is crazy! Are you guys thinking about bringing it to the Cookout? We can put it into the "other" category. It would be another car that Pete will have to compete with. hehe.

later,
Curt

Where do you get E98 and how much? What is the octane rating on that stuff and how does it compare to C16?

the motor octane number for ethanol is 102 (it would measure 116 on the sticker at the pump) compaired to a motor octane of 117 for c16
but ethanol absorbs huge amounts of heat when it vaporizes, so its hard to tell
i would say you could make more power with ethanol, but thats just a wild ass guess

Methanol makes around 15% more HP, so it's popular in drag racing, even though it is toxic and a pain to deal with.

Pushit2.0 08-22-2007 03:42 PM

Re: The MAPerformance 4g64 Powered FD RX7 Project Overview

I would not want to deal with nitro methane, I was trying to walk threw the pits of top fuel and just warming up the car you could not breath or see anything.

Stepanie Eggums runs E98 in the NHRA Hot Rod Class? First FWD Honda in the 7's...

its too bad they dont sell E85 in a 85% ethanol, 15% C16 formula :bling:

dumb_ricer 08-23-2007 01:55 PM

Re: The MAPerformance 4g64 Powered FD RX7 Project Overview

Well, E98 is blended with Race gas, so the 2 percent gas is 110 octane.

The only reason they seem to dilute it is so idiots don't drink it.

I do believe that testing has been done, and E85/C16 mix didn't seem to work too well.

so when is the kit swap kit comming out? lol

Very nice! I can't wait to see what this thing does. Are you backhalfing the car? What suspention/rearend are you going with?

Thats funny about the miata... though that would also be fun!

where did you guys manage to find that car with a blown motor?

oh also, how did you guys decide to go with a 4G64 vs a 4g63 or G4CS?

No backhalf as of yet. Probably solid axle Ford 9" or similar and 4 link setup unless we can figure out a way to maintain the rx7 suspension.

Just curious, but is there a reason you cut out the front half of the wheel wells under the hood? I noticed it yesterday at the Cookout, and couldn't really find a reason for it just by looking at it. Other than the maybe, 5 pounds you shaved out.

That is factory actually, there were plastic shrouds there that we had removed.

E98 is good stuff. No knock, relatively cheap and smells good to boot. Tough to start the car when it's raining or humid outside though.

is that because ethanol is hygroscopic?

I don't think that's it necessarily, that seems to be more of a concern for storage. I don't think it happens that quickly. I put in a few gallons of regular gas to richen it up a bit since my laptop wouldn't connect and it fixed it immediately.

Correct. We ran into a small torque converter issue, but look for some numbers as soon as we get it back!
