My first offical race was today
 

I went autocross racing for the very first time today, and it was so much fun. Although it was not drag racing (which I know is a favorite for most of the people on here) it was still a lot of fun. Last night my dad decided he wanted me to go autocross racing so he made me do it today, and I am glad. He used to be very into autocross and road course racing, but sold his last Trans Am about 15 or 20 years ago and has not raced since.

So this morning my dad took the C6 Corvette and I took the very dirty eclipse and we went down to Midway Stadium where there was a race today. At first I was very intimidated because to me it looked like someone just through orange cones every which way in the parking lot and that there was no specific track. But after walking it a few times and watching about 80 cars go 4 laps each before my class was up, I felt like I just may be ready.

My first run was so much fun! Although it was not all that great, I didn’t DNF or tip over any cones so I thought it was a success. By the end of the day, after running 9 times, I shaved my time down by 7 seconds and ended with a 30.70 sec time (the fastest time of all the classes was a 25.08, at least that I saw, but it was still good for my first time and others were even slower). I was very surprised the DSM did not break considering I found it was fastest to just beat on it and stay in first gear and let my car rev up as high as it will let me.

Over all I had a lot of fun today. I still really want to try drag racing, but my car has a bit to go before it is ready for the strip. It was fun watching the Evos and STis and WRXs take the course as well. Some time I hope to take the eclipse out on a road course.

Maybe BIR someday for the road course and drag strip!?

Wish I could have made it. You'll be happy to know that I was autocrossing in the highway though, but no cones. Just cars;) IA sucks.

I'm not going to lie, I had a lot of fun. I'm planning out going out and racing every weekend that i'm in town. My tires are perfect for it right now and I need new ones before winter any ways so there is no better way to use them up than racing :D, and once I get the injectors, fuel pump and SAFC in, I should do even better.

Well, if you like autocrossing, you should come out sometime and try rallycross. It's the same thing except it's on unpaved surfaces. Lots of drifting around. We have one coming up this weekend (sunday) in Arkansaw, WI.

Congrats on getting the twisty bug!!!! It is hard, sometimes, relaying the fun of the twisty tracks to some of the straightliners on the board. But that's just different strokes for different folks.

I concur, Rally is so fuck'n fun. Once we move to a house with a bigger garage I'm getting another fun car to get back into Rally with. Hell, Eric I might head out to WI this weekend just to watch and film. It's been far too long.

I've really wanted to try out rallycross, and I could give two shits about my paint, I just don't have the ambition to drive that far.

It's only about 1-1/2 hours from the cities. I am coming from New Prague so it's a little further for me. It's not really that bad of a drive. It's like driving to Rock Falls only a little shorter.

BTW, you don't chip your paint that bad. I rallycrossed my old talon for 3 years and it didn't do much to my paint at all. Just find some mudflaps to put on there and you're golden.

I think you'd care less about the 1 little tiff that might come from it after you ran the event. If you liked AUTO X you'll love this as well.

Just do it, give it one shot. You won't be disapointed! I'll be out there to film and watch. We need to get TKR in the EVO out there as well!!!

Yeah, lots of people raced new daily drivers simply because it don't really do much of anything to the car. Rain or shine it's always a great time.

Eric I'm going with Roll'n Joe as it looks right now. I can't wait to make another video again.

Yeah, maybe. But the paint is already starting to go on the hood, and its making me mad. Maybe i'll try it some time tho, i'll just have to make Anthony go with me, seeing how there is no way the vett would go and i'm not making the drive myself.

Just let me know next time a few of you head out there.

Looks like sunday is going to be the better of the 2 days this weekend. It won't be in the 90's like saturday is supposed to be. And lucky me gets to set up the course on saturday!!!

Check out the 2003 Tax Break Rally Cross. THat basically what you'll be dealing with. Hell, if Jana would say ok I'd have no hesitation about running the 6, and that's a new car.

I would go this weekend, but I am going camping. I dont know who all is going to the shoot out, but I know I am stuck back here in Minnesota, so if you guys are going out next weekend I'll be sure to go.

Rally Cross events only happen once every 1 to 2 months.

But now I don't even know if I will go, we might be looking at houses Sunday from 10-2 now.
