ok so I've been readin a lot about this Sam Jackobson's supra(t51r) and Sloss's s351r saleen and what I'm wondering who out of "us" dsmers is gonna be running with these boys this year? We need a dsmer to take them down? whos going for it whats your plans and if you dont wanna share I respect that too just wondering whats going on for this season thats on its approach?

I want to get in the high 11's on race gas. Hopefully I can. What are those guys running anyhow? I haven't read much about them. Is the s351 the one on xrated that John (galant) raced?

they will go down this year easily. not by me though. From what i remember, sams got beat. and the saleen, if im thinkng of the right one got beat by john.

Getting them to run from a dig is just a matter of proper public taunting at the right place and time. There is too much ego in that crowd for them to turn down public challenges. But I am guessing the first time one of them gets seriously ass pounded, they will be back with about 20K more invested the next weekend wanting revenge. Either way, they are never going to be considered easy marks. Respect has to be given, they are damn quick and that saleen hooks up quite nicely.
From past experience with these guys though, it would be best to run them at the track so they have no excuses or disputes about who won, jumped the start etc. They seem to always find a reason why a 4 banger hung with them or even beat them like john last year. I still can't believe the comment by Sloss about Johns galant, "Well of course he hung with, thats a full out race car" like his saleen was some stupid commuter car or something. |
I deffinatly agree. that saleen is just designed to hook up! damn that thing...but so is AWD...

That's the same Sloss that John Raced last year. The thread about the Saleen vs John on xrated. I believe is going to be deleted soon. Due to it been so old.
However mnracing has a thread going about the T51R Supra Race. Like Shane said to hang with his car you'll need to be trapping in the 130 range. Last year john hung with him right to the end and from my perspective it looked like John always pulled ahead during each gear but then lost ground during the shift due to slow shifting. Then raced well into the 140mph range. and were side by side. John was running pump gas and Sloss was on Race. Sloss mentioned/claims that he was holding back though. Which is probable considering 130mph tramp vs. 123mph trap. Anycase I'm looking forward to this summers activities. |
Holding back my ass, from the 15-140 roll on race we where side by side, then the 0-90 I was a few cars ahead, then missed 4th. I was on pump gas and 1 week of tunning with the AEM EMS, there was A LOT more in the car. So I will race these guys in my 90 Tsi Awd which is faster(according to ryan) then the galant on pump and faster on c-16 and 30+ psi, I am in. I also heard due to the race with me he is hogging his 351 out to a 405 and twin turboing it or somthing crazy like that. I will register at xrated and see what was said.

Sloss actually bought a new Saleen.
The S351R - which is lighter and has more HP. and is expecting to be in the 135mph trap range. according to the post on mnracing.org |
its the same car that he had before but its not a vert just a coupe... as far as i know

I think it is newer too from what I heard. They supposedly updated it with more power.

Since Andy N and I first started racing back with the domestics a few years ago when it was a Phone call deal. Sloss has brought / owned 3 different Saleens.
I know nothing about what the S351R spec/looks like but this is a entirely new car for him. However I though someone mentioned to me the other day that they stopped making Saleens back in like 2001? or something. anycase the saleen that Sloss raced John with wasn't stock either. it was modified. As I'm sure this S351R will be as well. The supra is running a T51R turbo. (which is Medium to Large in the supra world) -brian |

OH you didn't say it! I hate that stupid saying "speed costs money how fast BS" It is not always true and is way over-used. There are a few out there who don't need to spend cubic dollars to make a car kick @$$, most of the time it is true, but it is one of those blanket statements that just doesn't work for me. Especially in the DSM world, you can fly on a pretty tight budget, that is one of the best things about these cars.
The rest of it is pretty much true of course. And you really should put that freaking barge on a diet. Although it does pretty well now for 2 tons of fun. |
You can go fast for less but you basically have to turn your car into swiss cheese on wheels.
the whole Money to go fast I think is for those that like to run there cars in street trim. Full interior, stereo, bla bla bla... When it comes down to it. It's all just Power vs. Weight. if your car weighs less the less power you need to go fast. If it weighs more the more power you need. For me my car weighs closer to swanny's car. around 3700bls with stereo and chrome rims. -brian |
I think what Mikes getting at is there are a lot of things you can do to make your car faster w/o having to buy a wish list of parts.
Sure you are going to have to spend some money for some quality parts/maintenance, but it costs a lot more money to go fast if you don't know what hell you are doing. If you know how to fabricate, tune, build a setup only with parts that are necessary and that work well together, and put it into a chassis that can get the power to the ground, you put together a pretty quick machine. Doing your own maintenance is also a must. Just look at the mod lists of some people's cars and then how fast/slow they are. It can get pretty ridiculou$. Knowledge, experience, automotive skills, and a lot of research is what makes a lot of cars fast not the amount of money. I'll get off my soapbox now. ;) |
wtf? get the hell off my back guys. I didn't tell him he needed to spend 'cubic dollars' just that some money is required (weather it is tuning aids, hole cutters for raptor mods, tools to remove shit, whatever the case). Many cars can go fast on a budget, trust me I am the president of the ultra budget/broke ass racing team.

Now to get back on topic, I'll be down around uni looking for some races this year. I'll also make it to most of the tracks a couple times including Grove Creek on friday nights. Now, off to get some more coffee. :banana: |

Get your panties out of the twist josh, I just hate that saying because it is way over used and for the points Jim brought up, not always true. It is always stated as some big absolute when in reality it is far from that. There are other ways to go fast cheap than just cutting holes in stuff and people should really get off that kick. Anyone that believes that swiss cheesing a car is all I know how to do is in for a rude awakening this summer. And I will definately put money on it.
