My mom went over that bridge twice today. She called me and was all upset and stuff. Lucky. That's all it was. Luck that she didn't fall like 100 feet.

Thats pretty fucking wild... I'm watching it as well and its unbelievable that it just collapsed. Doesnt make sense on why it would just drop. Although it is 50 years old, I cant believe it just dropped.

They were doing construction on it. I bet there was some big vibration or somebody layed some concrete and it shrunk or expanded with the heat/cold/whatever and broke some of the metal. It has to be due to the contruction, there is nothing else that would cause it to fail.

It's just sad that this had to happen. It's also scary how the rescue efforts will play out with it being in the evening hours & there's a storm on the way (headed in that direction from what I could tell). :(

The channel 5 lady was reading a report from the MNDOT that stated in May of 2006 there was reports of fatigue cracking on the large beams and supports under the cement structure that makes the bridge stable. An engineer basically stated this is probably one of the main reasons it is under construction currently.

The rain just hit in Fridley and it is really hard, supposed to be pea sized hail too. Lots of lightning too.

22 injuries, plus 6 critical and 3 dead. Very sad.

There were construction workers on the bridge when it went down also, they don't know how many are unaccounted for.

my best friends step dad was working with the construction crew on that bridge, still havent heard from him but most likely hes ok. my prayers also go out to all the families that were in that accident. :(

Im amazed. My mom called me while I was driving from minneapolis to brooklyn park and I took 94w but she was freaking out and I didnt know what was going on.. pretty scary.

I can't beleive what has happened. Not only will it hold up traffic from the bridge but also river traffic as well as the train tracks are blocked as well.

Yeah, I was coming up on 8th ave (maybe 8th street) but anyway, like 2 exits from the bridge when it happened, traffic just stopped all of the sudden.

I was doing a dealer trade at a car dealership on hwy 36, and had crossed the bridge around 5 pm, and got held up at the dealership while they tried to find the second set of keys to the car I was picking up, and since that took so long, I missed the collapse by a few minutes.

You use whats called a slip form on a bridge which means the concrete isn't attached to the bridge itself. If it was it would tear it appart with a Minnesota winter. I think it was an outfit out of St. Micheal that was doing to construction. They might has well figure on hanging it up. This really sucks I feel for all of them.

Yea, wierd. I was driving to Burnsville to Blaine at 6:00 and was at 35W and 280... then decided to take 280 instead of 35W because of the possibility of traffic. The Evo could've been totalled, ugh... =) It would've been the right time and place to happen. Someone's trying to keep me alive...

Just got back from downtown, hughes and I took our ladies to dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Cops and Ambulances everywhere! We drove over semi near the scene but it was just a total mess so we got the hell out of there.

I was sitting at TGIFriday's in Roseville waiting for a friend and others to show up for his birthday when a lady at the bar shouted "The 35W bridge just collapsed!" The bartender turned the channel on the TVs to the local stations and everyone in the place was plastered to them for the next couple of hours. I work off of 280 and Territorial, I can only imagine what traffic is going to be like now.

I cant believe it. This is something out of a movie, these things just dont ever happen. Two of my best friends were on the brigde about 45 mins before it happened...thats a very creepy feeling!

It's crazy. Just an earie feeling. My mom called me tonight while I was at Porkys, and I answerd the phone with "no mom, I wasn't on the bridge". I guess our family in IA had been calling around trying to get ahold fo the 3 cousins that live in the cities just in case.

One thing it's nice to see is the people living in the apartments nearby who got down to help before anyone else.

I'm going to be gluded to the tv for the enxt day or two.

I live in NE mpls so like that other half of minneapolis did I went down there to check it out, you coulnt get too close on any main road or side street for that matter, so we took to the woods, brought a camera and got some cool pics. This shits crazy I was there and I still dont really believe 35w is gone, traffic was bad before but its gonna be hell for the next year.

wow, I can't believe this... is everyone OK??? I was watching the news... its crazy to see the pictures though, they are asking for more one the national news from people in the area...

WOW... I hope everyone here and their families are ok, My heart and prayers go out to everyone involved though.
