Damn, you guys missed out. It was 75 and sunny both days at Cedar Falls. The track was sticky, the entry fee was only $20, and those silly tubbed out V8 race cars were only running 12's and 13's :3gears: .

PSI2HI 10-21-2003 11:34 PM

Last time i checked Cedar Falls had races this coming weekend as well.

CVD 10-21-2003 11:45 PM

Im going this weekend. Hoping for cold. I'd rather have a bit more power and pray for good track/prep.

Pushit2.0 10-22-2003 01:03 AM

Word, saturday or sunday, I plan on saturday. Anyone want to tow my car to Iowa?

~John
I need a tow vehical, I already have a car dolly lined up.

AJ 10-22-2003 08:13 AM

I have a truck that may have a friend tranny and we are waiting on word for a trailor as well. LOL All goes well the dakota will be towing Nash down.

Jacek 10-22-2003 07:17 PM

im going for some watching. anyone have room?

Jakey 10-23-2003 12:43 AM

I don't think there is anyone on the site from down this way (Ames) but if there is anyone from Southern Iowa and is looking for a ride up, I'm planning on heading up for the day Saturday to watch so let me know.

john 10-23-2003 10:30 PM

Can you pick me up in MN? :P

HAH, sorry, I'm not sure if I am going to be attending anymore since the gates do not open until 12:30. I was hoping that the racing would have began long before 12:30.

Goat Blower 10-23-2003 11:00 PM

Actually the 12:30 start time is great, you can leave at a decent hour in the morning. I got there in 3.5 hours towing a full car trailer averaging 75 mph.

Skip the brackets on Sunday if they have them. Test and tune on Saturday was great, Sunday sucked. They had no idea where to put my car for a class, needless to say I was easily the fastest in the street class. My only competition was a newer Vette running a big shot of nitrous, but he just couldn't roll with the 6000 rpm stutterbox AWD launch.

AJ 10-23-2003 11:02 PM

What did you run Steve? Im just itchen to find out!

Goat Blower 10-26-2003 07:13 PM

11.922@118.something. That was missing fourth gear. It took a second to get it in which explains why it was my slowest trap speed of the weekend. My short times sucked a bit as well, I didn't have time to swap on my Nitto drags, so I ran with my hard-ass 17's instead. I was pretty happy with the car, but the tranny problems really slowed me down. My cleanest passes were shifting at about 7200 and babying the tranny into 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I won't have this problem next spring. :bounce:

john 10-26-2003 08:51 PM

Nice time. What turbo are you running? What boost?

Goat Blower 10-26-2003 11:11 PM

FP Red, ~30 psi.

john 10-27-2003 03:07 PM

You should dyno at elite this saturday. Then you will have a chance to move the list up.

JET 10-27-2003 08:38 PM

Gratz on the 11 Steve! Sounds like you need some dyno time or something though. 118 traps for 30 psi on a red seems a little low. Andy ran 122 on a 20g at 30 psi and I ran 123 on a 50 trim at 26 psi. Maybe you need some HKS cams? Anyway, gratz again and I am glad to see there is going to be more competition next year!!

Shane@DBPerformance 10-27-2003 08:52 PM

He ran 123 mph short shifting the tranny. 118mph was his worst trap.

Actually I ran 122 trap at 26psi. I have yet to make a pass at 30psi.

Ahh, that is much better. I thought I had heard 123, but Steve didn't mention anything about it.

Andy, didn't you say you were running 30 psi at RF when you ran the 11.2? I thought for sure you were. Was it tapering off again?

Goat Blower 10-27-2003 10:35 PM

The car was running pretty good, if not still a bit conservative. As I mentioned a few times, my tranny was really bad, to the point where I missed a few gears on some passes, and ran down a few muscle cars trapping 15-20 mph less than me. I know it's bench racing, but with a good tranny, it would've been much faster.

I'm still missing some power though, some wideband tuning would work wonders. I only tuned at the track based on the crappy stock 02 sensor and reading plugs. I've already got the 272's. Unfortunately I won't be able to perfect this setup since this motor is coming out and going to be sold soon, and I'm building up something a little more exciting for next year. :3gears:

JET 10-27-2003 10:47 PM

Yeah, I know how frustrating it is not being able to get it into gear! I am already itching to drive my car, by next spring I am going to be going nuts!

PSI2HI 10-28-2003 03:21 AM

One of our shop cars pushed 125.7 mph, 25 psi, PTE's smallest 50 trim, stock longblock.

Nick

Nash 10-28-2003 07:33 AM

I only made four runs at RF and on the 1st two I never looked at what boost I was running. On the 3rd on I looked and I was only running 24psi. So I gave it a turn before the 4th run and it only went up to 26psi.

JET 10-28-2003 07:41 PM

Cool, sounds like you need a little bigger turbo Andy. I know you are already planning on that this winter.

Nick, that is hauling for the 50 trim and only 25 psi! Does that car have an upgraded intake mani or ported head? I am just wondering where the diffence is with my car since it is the same turbo. Is it externally gated?

PSI2HI 10-28-2003 08:52 PM

JET,
You have the stage 3 exh wheel i thought? WE are using the smallest 50 trim available w/ the stage 2 exh wheel.
The motor itself is completly bone stock (stock cams, stock pistons, stock rods, stock valves, etc..) Still utilizing a 1G stock intake manifold, AFC. I'd say the car is a freak, haha. Woulda liked to push more boost but still using the stock headgasket and stock headbolts which we reused again so i assume their stretched, so we tried to keep it to a minimum.

Nick

JET 10-28-2003 09:26 PM

Damn! Yep, that is crazy. Mine is a stage 3 wheel. I still don't understand how it got 125.7 mph on 7.8:1 compression, that is just nuts! And with stock cams, how the hell?

A//// Guy 10-28-2003 09:47 PM

Holy crap thats sweet.

Goat Blower 10-28-2003 10:31 PM

Nice work Nick. That's what some tuning and good driving will get for ya.

I was kinda happy to finally get my 11, but it's not as exciting as I would've expected. I'm already working out the bugs that slowed me down, and I promised my wife I wouldn't even think about the car til at least January. Well, so much for that. ;) The research for an improved setup is in progress and the 2.4 block will probably be on the engine stand by the end of the week.

PSI2HI 10-29-2003 12:30 AM

The best part is yet to come....it has yet to see a dyno since the 50 trim has been on there. All butt dyno tuning so far.

Aha, the Shep school of tuning. I do like that myself, it just takes longer.

You mean have Jason Seibels tune your AEM and then claim that you never dyno? :)

PSI2HI 10-29-2003 07:32 PM

Yeah Seible's does all the tuning on shep's car and it's quite the dyno queen exceding the 4 digit mark by a decent amount.

Nick

Goat Blower 10-30-2003 02:19 PM

Oh God, I forgot he has an AEM. You're right, with someone besides Shep tuning the car, I'm sure it's on the dyno more than the one time Shep claims.

You think he's got more than 1000 whp? I don't know about that, even Brent wasn't getting that on Alky.

PSI2HI 10-30-2003 03:15 PM

According to my source who is good friends w/ Jason the car has exceeded that mark, by how much im not @ liberty to say ;) .
Have you been attention to how everytime he goes to the track now he picks up a few tenth's, let a lone an ass load of mph. How do you explain going from 154 to i think it was roughly 168 in a week? Sandbagger!!!

Nick

Goat Blower 10-30-2003 07:19 PM

He said on NABR that he uncorked the exhaust and put on full slicks when he went from 156 to 165. Although I admit, that's an awful big jump just removing a 3.5" catback. You're right, Shep's a sandbagger.

JET 10-30-2003 11:25 PM

Jason said on the AEM board that he has never put Shep's car on the dyno and that Shep won't put it on the dyno. I don't really believe him, but that is what he said. Supposedly he uses the logs from runs to do his tuning.

Isn't that always everywhere? I dont think anyone worries about making too much power.

Start breaking trannies all the time and you will.

Pushit2.0 11-02-2003 02:06 PM

As in tune at the track, see a diff in trap/et.
