519 AWHP- So far....

Finally got the old girl up to DB last night and got on the rollers. With Shane tickling the keyboard, we got her up to 519 AWHP with it breaking up a bit after about 3900 rpm. We gapped the plugs down a bit more and she was making a clean run until the lower IC coupler blew off again. It's such a tight corner out of the turbo to clear the front motor mount, there's no good way to keep it together at 30+ psi. So after we get an elbow welded on this week and I upgrade the upper pipe to a 3", we'll give her another go. The final couple passes were at about 32psi running straight E98 Ethanol and it was still about 85-90 degrees in the dyno room. The dyno curve is REAL nice, I love this combo for street/strip duty. Dyno sheet below.

Re: 519 AWHP- So far....

It seems to be a good setup. It might be in the 550awhp range when we are done with it. Torque is in the 460s. It hits 20psi in the 4300-4400RPM range on the dyno and is to 30psi at around 4700RPMs. It should have a long powerband like my car did with the 67.

Gotta love the 2.4 spool up. Is that with the 3065?

11s here he comes! ;) LOL j/k Steve! Nice numbers, can't wait to see it haul ass down a track.

Thats a solid 11 for sure! :) And those are DD #'s?

Yep, doesn't D.D. read a tad lower than other dynos, or did I hear wrong?

3575.

Congrats Steve. Now go trap 140. 11.9 at 140!

Congrats, Steve! I think the last time I saw your car run was at Rock Falls when I tagged along with Carl a couple years ago.

Woo Woo! I got to witness some tire burning action after bee's last night. I saw this sweet looking 1G get on 55E in front of me. Steve showed me his dyno graph and I have to say that the 2.4L with the 3575 or t67 would be a kick ass way to go. His torque curve is long and flat! Looking good steve!

Congrats, how many miles on the 2.4?
Longevity of the 2.4 is the only thing that really worries me.
Can't wait to see what your final numbers/powercurve looks like.

Yeah thats it, for some reason I thought he had the 3065. I was like wow thats a lot for that turbo.

Gratz Steve! Those are some nice numbers.

Re: 519 AWHP- So far....

Yea, those are uncorrected DD AWD numbers, which are much much lower than Dynojet AWD numbers. From AWD cars that have dynoed here and on AWD Dynojets it takes about 18-20% to get to those numbers. So 519AWHP on ours might be around 612AWHP on a Dynojet AWD. To go from our dyno AWD to a DSM converted to FWD and run on a Dynojet is around 22% or so, or atleast thats the difference I saw with my wifes car.

Re: 519 AWHP- So far....

Whoot, good to see it's running again. I'm glad to hear the 3575/T67 turbos do so well on 2.4L engines. I hope my T67/P-trim gets me my goal of 600 AWDWHP.

Great work Steve. Did you try doubling up T-band clamps on that hose? What timing were you able to get out of it?

I have yet to see any real evidence that the 2.4L has longevity problems. Keep an honest rpm limit of 8500 and it should last as long as any 2.0L at 9000-10,000 rpm. I wind my 2.4L LR up to 8000-8500 and it just seems to love it. Marco (Magnus Motorsports) told me once about a guy that bought one of his long rod 2.4L engines spinning it up to 10,000+ rpm in Australia with no problems, but that might be where longevity could be an issue.

Nice numbers Mr. Hill... Are you using AEM or link and what fuel pump are you running?

Its good to see the car out of the garage and "almost" ready for the track!

Well, it MUST be the EMS to control the 16,000 injectors he has stashed in that car! as for pumps..2 255's?

Of course rpm has some to do with the motor going if you are reving the shit out of it all the time but I think running really high boost has more to do with it. In Steves case if he keeps it around 30-33psi give or take it should be fine with a good tune. The failures you read about are usually people that are in the 35psi-40+psi range.

Its seems like half the DSMs you read about in the high 9s and low 10s are running that 3575.

1ViciousGSX 07-26-2007 07:15 AM

Re: 519 AWHP- So far....

But is it due to high psi or a bad tune with high psi?

About 1500 miles. The other 2.4 I built at the same time has around 10K miles at a similar power level and gets flogged on the streets of Duluth regularly. They seem to hold up fine.

There's no room to put a second clamp on there with the 90 degree bend. There's barely enough surface area to clamp the coupler to, plus it's a hard 90 bend, so the boost is probably trying to push down on the pipe as well. We'll get that taken care of this week.

Shane would know the timing numbers, I just brought it down to the shop and parked it and drove something with air conditioning home. :cheer:

AEM. 1600cc injectors, 720cc secondaries not wired up yet, didn't need them after all. (2) walbro 255HP's in tank T'd together.

I'd say bad tune normally, but some 2.4's have just had cylinder wall cracks from a possible bad casting like Mo's.

We set the rev limiter to 8000 for the dyno, but I was running it up as high as 8500 rpm last year.

Congrats Steve, nice setup! that is great power for that dyno, can't wait to see your car again.

For the guy who asked about how long a 2.4 will last - I have over 20,000 miles on my 2.4 that QPR built. I had the head off this past winter for a new headgasket and everything looked nice and fresh. I don't take it over 8,000rpm as I am running a stock intake. I run e85 and 27psi behind a pte 3561. I need to get this thing into Shane's hands.

Thanks guys, i am looking to do the 2.4 thing again once my 2.0L goes, but it doesn't want to, so i will have fun with it.
Steve gonna test this new tune at CFR next weekend?

Congratulations!

Re: 519 AWHP- So far....

try these, you will never have a boost leak problem again and you can run 100+ psi all day without blowing them out. plus they are pretty bling :D so hows the daily driving with that much power, any 4 wheel burnouts??

here's the link to ^ http://www.adelwiggins.com/ProdDtl.cfm?pid=140

I remember that as well... It was like, last year when I was having issues with blowing couplers as well. Heh

Steve... Have you tried any hairspray? This helped me last year at over 35psi.

Re-route it so it doesn't have any extreme bends.

Looks like a fun car.
