No replacement for displacement?

3 Attachment(s)
What happens when the V8 guys find turbos?

Some of you guys may have seen this car at the shop over the winter.

We had to stop at 11psi because the mostly stock ignition couldn't keep up. You can see it in the graph when it goes flat around 5700RPMs and we stopped the run not long after. It was fine at 9psi making 770whp. The plan was to shoot for 15psi on pump gas for now and maybe max the turbos on race gas someday.

Yea, after a couple years of growing up i realized more cylinders means more power easier and better powerband, just need the money now lol.

Yeah, I have been craving a twin turbo LS engine for a while now. Things like this make me realize that I won't get 1,000 awhp out of my car, because that is totally streetable anyway.

It's not displacement, it was those NAPA oil filters that made the power.

I saw this earlier today. That is awesome.

I assume there will be a c16 tune also?

What about the TT Cobra that has been 2 years in the making?

Re: No replacement for displacement?

They're catching up. I've seen more and more articles about turbocharging and EFI in Hot Rod, and now they've even got a really cool cam-driven fuel pump that can provide enough fuel flow for a 1500 hp EFI engine without even putting a return line to the fuel tank. Talk about easy retrofit for the older V8 cars, bolts right in the stock location and is half the size of a stock pump.

Nice work on the Stang, I won't be lining up against many of those unless they're on cheap radials.

7000 or so, we brought it out a lot farther than in the graph above on lower boost runs when it didn't misfire.

That was pump 92? Like.

Shane@DBPerformance 06-09-2007 12:03 PM

Re: No replacement for displacement?

Yea, normal 92 octane pump gas. It was only 11psi. The motor was built low compression for turbo.

Damn, I want money

Hmm, maybe I should turbo that GTO in my garage... Too bad it'd fall apart before I even turned the key.

Nice numbers!

Shane loves dynoing soo much, that when he is not actually driving the car, he likes to "experience" the power on his face. :P

I'd give him an experience on his face for 50 dollars. And he'll like it.

A little birdy told me that this car ran into what could be considered a good replacement for displacement last night ;)

Excuses are like assholes...

Shane@DBPerformance 09-27-2007 01:37 AM

Re: No replacement for displacement?

There is no excuse. He lost. But this is a car that runs on pump gas, gets driven 50 miles to work, can make more than 2 passes without breaking or overheating, and doesn't need a pit crew to goto midway. It's at the 14B stock boost level part of it's turbo life right now. It is also owned by a nice guy.

I'm just giving you a hard time. The car is impressive. It'll be cool to see how far you guys can push it!

I don't think it's a matter of how far they can push it, it's more of what is too much. That car is truly capable of an amount which is a little scary for a street car.

 well said Mo! I agree! That car is awesome!! It's paint is perfect. Its just an all around bad ass car!! Kenny is a very nice guy from what I have heard.

TheBlizzard 09-27-2007 09:11 AM

Re: No replacement for displacement?

You can't really compare the cars in question; one is close to its maximum potential while one is at its minimum potential. Either way both are fast as hell so who cares.

Swifty1638 09-27-2007 10:16 AM

Re: No replacement for displacement?

Kenny is a great guy. I think for the sake of his kids, wife, and friends he won't be pushing it much further. Traction must be of prominant concern.

What would the next step up be ignition wise besides a CNP or similar setup?
