whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Is it just me or are there like 5 different threads about people's dsms not starting or breaking down? Come on guys, you gotta start doing stuff right and quit half-assin it. I know dsms are definitely not the most reliable cars in the world, but if you take your time and do stuff right you should be alright. I just thought I'd point that out haha.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
The dsmer way = Half assed :)

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Naw, it's just a matter of making more power. Once you start to get up there, past most of the regular stopping points that a lot of the community stops at (basic 16g or 50 trim, etc) then you will break shit more often-course, this all depends on who built it, how you drive it, who tuned it, etc.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
You should also keep in mind how old the cars are. It is not like they are new by any means.
|
Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Most the broken cars are stock or just lightly modded :) I've never once had any of my 5 DSM's (all 1G's) strand me or break down on me, its all about how you take care of them and maintain them.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
mine started on fire last night :loser: -but ya I see that everyone is breaking, not like mine doesn't break but i'm just going to take mine to LSE becuase we must be doing something wrong becuase it never works, so far the only thing is my banjo bolt on the left side of turbo keeps leaking, i think its the feed line, but hows it going with ur car? I saw your setup it was pretty cool

tman1gtsi- My car is doing fine. Glad you like the setup, its a little outdated though haha. |
Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Believe it or not, some of these are not due to "half-assed" work. These cars are getting up there in age and miles, and if the owner doesn't replace something before it breaks things are bound to go wrong. And I know many of us do preventive maintenance (I for example replaced the entire cooling system on my new car just because, along with the timing stuff because I didn't know when the previous owner had ever done it), and I know many people out there are too lazy, dumb, or just poor to do it.

On the whole though, my car has been pretty damn reliable. |
Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Yea I'm not pointing anybody out, I was just kinda laughing at the fact that we, the dsm community, are totally living up to our name of breaking down all the time haha

ANY car that you modify to the point that some of our members have, will break under the added stress on the motor itself. My roomate had a Turbo Integra that he had a shop do the turbo, built the block and head. and had a bunch of other stuff done... He went through 4 blocks, every time he was blowing ring after ring. The reason honduhs are so reliable is the fact that they were never turbocharged in the first place. but sure enough with a couple go mods (which seems to be few and far between for honduhs) and they will break just like our cars. |
Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Hold up hold up, aren't you the one who had the most "half assed" fmic I've ever seen? The one that incorporated a smic? And you're calling other people out?
|
Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Mine broke more then I could say. And yes it gets spendy after a while. But I hope *knock on wood* it will last for a while after its all done. On another note. My Grand Am GT is leaking oil from some were. my wifes Van also leaks oil too. Ugh stupid old cars. *sighs*

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
yeah, just think about it. Even when some work is done by some people it still isn't right, look how your car arrived here? on multiple occasions.
Old cars, and F&F got to too many people. |
Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Most DSM issues are related to worn out transmissions or half assed installs (mismatched mods, short cuts, bolts/fittings not torqued properly, poor maintenance of worn out parts). If you have been in the game awhile or worked/helped out at a local shop once or twice, half assed it what you find most of the time with issues.
And I'll admit that I have been responsible for most of the issues I have had with my dsm over the years, its a learning experience and I have found that my car had become more and more reliable as I have screwed up and learned what does and doesn't work. Some mistakes I have made looking back is buying go fast parts more than once (550cc, 660cc, 780cc, 1600cc injectors), shitty turbo (2g20g eliminator). Dealing with shitty vendors and listening to idiots on message boards (turbochagers.com, crooks on trader, dsmtuners) could have skipped a few of those and saved some cash. Buying DSMlink, fuel pumps, injectors, and bigger turbo before replacing worn out motor mounts and suspension which led to drive train issues from increased power and uneven worn tires due to sloppy suspension and just overall scary handling at higher speeds. I am also not ashamed to admit that I probably fucked my 7 bolt up (spun bearing) from prolonged detonation and not dropping the pan to remove blown turbo bearing material back when I was just learning how not to tune a dsm. I'd love to go back 6 years and slap some sense into me, ha. Only original parts I am still running are my joe p. MBC, boost gauges, air filter setup, and 2g head. |
Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Speak for yourselves bitches, the EVO has been running tip-top and has been ready since Jan! I might change the oil before this weekend, but that's about all the prep I need right now! :D

I have never seen anything like that before.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Welcome to modding cars. It's not too hard of an idea to get a grasp on. People put power adders into 12+ year old cars that they were not designed for (and often get installed inproperly, shortcuts taken, parts are mis-matched for setups, etc...), and don't do the preventitive maintanaince required because they have been passed around like drunk sluts at a frat house, and no one knows what's been done to them in the past.
It's not a big deal, people just need to fork out the cash to PROPERLY have the standard maintanance taken care of with quality parts, and learn how to (or pay someone) to chose and install parts. It's nothing to bitch about, or even make a thread about. It's just life, and the car scene in general. So with that said, I'm out like a boner in sweat pants. G'night bitches :blood_ish: |
Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Gosh I've posted that pic like a million times haha, but Halon I like your style. I'm pretty sure anybody would agree with me when I say a temporary smic is better than a temporary no pipe at all. The smic had no effect on how well the car ran, it would just have an effect on the performance causing the pressure to drop. I think "ghetto rigged" is a better phrase than "half-assed."

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Wow wow and wow. Dude get some Dusch and clean that pussy out. We are just busting your chops for that ghetto rig ya did. I know you did it to get the car home or drive it. And I also know you fixed it a day later. hahaha I had to fix alot of Ghetto rig shit on my 1g. Like how some one duck taped over exposed wires. That was amazing. And the lovely cut 12v wire to the radio plug. That was even better. But enough of that. Lets fix the ones that are broken. And injoy the rest of the summer.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
I'm not gonna take alot of time to write a response. All I gots to say is, I posted up a general statment. If I make a post trying to offend someone, you'd know it. So take a chill pill, smoke some week, pop some ex, take a drink, whatever it is that you crazy kids do now adays, and relax a bit and play some guitar hero. Cause that's what I'm gonna do :beach:

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Yea sorry guys, I just reread my last post and it could have been read two different ways. I was not upset at all. I don't hold grudges or bash people and sorry if it came across that way. Like I said, its the internet, things can be misinterpreted. So 92eviltalon, my pussy is clean and b00stcreep21 i just got done playing guitar hero and drinking beer so I'm happy now haha.

Re: whats with everybodys cars breaking?
Yeah yeah yeah we all know you were just saying. And for example I was just saying! hahaha.
I always notice at the cookout... most of the 1Gs are shitty, ghetto, and half assed. Please change that! |
