Hey guys, I just bought a car off of ebay. I will be using escrow to get the title from the seller, but I was wondering what other steps I should take to make sure I don't get ripped off somehow. I will be getting it delivered from New York, any good deals on auto shipping?
Thanks, Chris |
Fly out and take a look at it before taking delivery.

There are several shipping companies on-line.

Wow, don't have money for that. Wish I did...He took a lot of pics for me and it looks good. The timing belt broke so it doesn't run, which is alright. He even took a pic with today's paper in it so I could see that the date was current and the car is there. I am paying via escrow so he doesnt get any money until i get the title. I can't forsee any problems, as I will own the car at that point.

YOU BOUGHT A CAR!
What did you buy?!?!?! I would go check it out if you can, just to play the safe side. |
make sure you get real address phone number name, look them up on people search on yahoo or something,
make sure any deals with money are thoroughly recorded (when the shipping company went to pick up my car it started having a really rich idle problem and wouldnt run, they wanted to ship as inoperable, which cost extra $400, we said we would split the costs, seller said they would send $200 with title, money never arrived) be very careful, when you first get the car search for anything that is wrong, then you can get your moeny back because of lemon laws, many things that were listed on my car were more than a little off when i got it but since i bought my car in semi-operable condition i didnt become aware of these problems til it was too late (broken wategate, cracked turbo, etc) I know i sound paranoid but i am the nice trusting guy that always gets screwed, good luck and congrats on the buy |
I used DAS Direct Auto Shippers, they are ebay recommended, they are fairly competitive but I thought it was worth it, they go over the car thoroughly and show every possible defect before shipping so that if anything happens they take responsibility for it
|
yeah since the timing belt broke definitely be extra careful and examine it and maybe have it examined other people just incase, never know what else "may just happen to be broken too"
|
Also watch for Fake Escrow service's. A Friend of mine just tried to buy a BMW and turned out it was a scam.

hahaha I didnt think thta you were serious about that last night lol awsome it looks like a nice ass car!! good luck dude be careful too
|
Yeah, what kind of car is it? Any pics?
|
Poost a link to the auction so we can see it.
|
yeah post up a link! Also if I were you I would be tempted to fly out there and rent a Rider truck and trailer and pull it home yourself cause then you could see the guy in person and check it over in person.
|
Well here is a link to the closed auction:
My New GSX It is a 1995 Eclipse GSX, 5 speed, red exterior, gray leather interior. The timing belt snapped causing engine damage. Perfect for my planned 4G64 swap! The windshield has a crack and it is missing part of a sideskirt, but other than that it looks great! And for $2200 I can't complain ;) Here are some pics I got from him, although I deleted most of the exterior shots because hotmail blows... Chris |
Another...Yep, bone stock :)
|
Hopefully I can trust him...
|
EW red car.
|
Yeah, didn't prefer red but this is the only 95+ AWD 5 speed with a blown motor that I have seen for months! Had to compromise somewhat or else I would never have another car...
Chris |
Cool, best of luck with your project.

I used DAS (dependable auto shippers) Worked great, way faster than I expected, they said it would be 2-3 weeks, it came in 6 days.
Just use escrow and a good shipping company and you really can't get screwed too bad. |
you could always call the NYPD and see if they have an officer in there registry under that name.
