From the commercial, it looked like there is a 1G (Talon/Eclipse) against a Honda (?? not sure of other car).

It's on next Monday (9th) at 8 p.m.

http://dsc.discovery.com/schedule/episode....630&channel=DSC

I'll definately be watching it!!!

1ViciousGSX 02-02-2004 11:08 PM

MATCHBX 02-02-2004 11:50 PM

Oh great.....More channels jumping on the bandwagon.....

IndiEP 02-03-2004 06:29 PM

"The culture of street racing is an urban phenomenon that's spreading across the globe. Meet the kids spending loads of time and money gearing up their first cars to transform them into lighter, faster, louder and flashier drags."

I'll prolly hate it but I'll watch

MATCHBX 02-03-2004 06:51 PM

I'll end up watching it as well. Such a new phenomenon!!!!!! Hell, my mother used to hang out at midway and red rock when she was a kid. This ain't new by a long shot.

I'm sure the show it self will suck, but I'm hoping the cars are nice. :3gears:

Iceman 02-03-2004 10:02 PM

On TLC at 8 they had "rides" where they put a V8 into a is300 and added some body parts to it. Its on agian at 10 on TLC. I saw the last part and it seemed okay....

john 02-03-2004 10:03 PM

If I remember, I will see it.

Goat Blower 02-03-2004 11:38 PM

Hey, it beats "The Real World" and "TRL" hands down.

saw it, the hot rod was tight, why you would swap one of the best toyota motors (2jz) out of the is300 to put in a v8 is beyond me, the inline 6 has way more to offer, but hey if your rich i guess you can do what you want,

thank goodness for tivo

npaulseth 02-04-2004 11:23 AM

the 2jz that comes in the is300 is the 2jz-ge, not the 2jz-gte (the one that came in the supra). The 2jz-ge is not that easy to turbo. A 2jz-gte swap with a t-66 or t-78 would have been much better.

john 02-04-2004 11:29 AM

Supra TT engine is a common swap in the is 300s. A mkiv swap in a lexus is like a rb20 in a 240 for a rich guy. People also turbo the stock motor is 300s.

Actually, turboing IS300's stock motor is pretty common, not throwing in the supra's 2JZ.

Here's a V8 IS430

Shane@DBPerformance 02-04-2004 12:15 PM

Turboing the 2JZ-GE is not insanely hard or anything, hell, to put a single on a Supra TT you end up having to replace a crap load of parts. But the 2JZ in the IS300 is not the same one found in the SC300 and non-turbo Supras. The older 2JZ-GE has the same strong rods, crank and block found in the turbo version, it's just higher compression. The new 2JZs have much weaker rods and the IS300 uses a returnless fuel system and VVTI, so it's a pain to work with.

npaulseth 02-04-2004 01:58 PM

When i said turbo I was talking about making 450+ RWHP. Obviously the gte engines have no trouble making that. On the NA 2jz-ge engine, I haven't seen more that ~450 rwhp. Given that I don't have any hands on experience, this is just what I have read. Ecoli, thanks for the update. I didn't know they made significant changes to the new 2jz-ge. I have also heard that the new, as in bought from a toyota dealership, 2jz-gte engines are failing very soon after being installed. Something about lack of oil/lubrication. Noah

GotBoost 02-04-2004 02:36 PM

so how do we get a 2jz-gte in a first gen eclipse lol :3gears:

Shane@DBPerformance 02-04-2004 02:43 PM

The top 2 HP numbers on our 6 cylinder board are using the NA 2JZ shortblock. Turbodave put stock GTE pistons and a turbo head on his though. The other one, an NA-T Supra, at the time it dynoed 601whp through an auto tranny here he just had a thicker headgasket on the stock motor.

Do the new 2JZ-GTE replacement motors from Toyota also have the weaker rods or are they still big?

npaulseth 02-04-2004 02:59 PM

Well, way to ownz me ;) i have no idea about the rods. Is the NA-T supra green?

Shane@DBPerformance 02-04-2004 05:17 PM

No, but I think I know the car your talking about. That thing had major problems.

It's something with a rear main seal or some shit. I know I read a long ass thread on it on supraforums, but I didn't care that much cause I don't have a supra yet. We'll probably check my cousin's out though since maybe his might be causing his oil leak problem.

AJ 02-09-2004 09:49 PM

HOW FUCKING GAY IS THIS SHOW? Out of everything on a fucking AWD Talon they toss 125 shot of Nitrus.

john 02-09-2004 09:54 PM

I just started watching it. What is 9.92 equivilant to on a 1/4 track? They are only racing 1/8 mile right?

john 02-09-2004 09:58 PM

The talon wins with a 8.81 1/8 mile time vs a civic running 9.96 while the talon snapped an axle. What is 8.81 in 1/4 time?

JET 02-09-2004 10:09 PM

An 8.81 would be a mid 13 second run in the 1/4. Not bad for doing it with a broken axle. I thought about that as soon as I saw him roll up with slicks on :P

1ViciousGSX 02-09-2004 10:34 PM

What a lame build up for a Talon. Their attitude was like "Dude it's a turbo car, let's throw alot of Nitrous at it, and then only use it for the last 50 ft of the track". :slap: An AWD Talon with all the bolt on parts they showed with 100-125 shot and slicks should have been alot faster. :razz2:

jpape 02-09-2004 10:37 PM

That guy was bashing the Mitsubishi Motor! Looks like the DSM didnt do to bad against that Civic.

AJ 02-09-2004 10:52 PM

What did they spend on the Honda? 10k? What did they spend on the Talon? 1-3k? And the owner of the Talon was a moron. First he said at the beginning that he picked a Talon due to no one know what they can do. Yeah, sure. People are still retarded. Second he called his own Car FWD when he met up with that chick on the street. And then the whole 1/8 mile crap. I hope this doesn't become a series or I will have to cancel my cable.

At-Least-It's-An-Evo 02-09-2004 10:53 PM

A 8.8 is really bad for 125 shot and that crap on race gas. I saw it trapped like 87 mph. 87 mph in a 1/4 is like mid 12 sec pass with a good driver. Still slow for the setup. 125 Zex? Isn't zex dry only? Both cars were really slow for the amount of money invested. Having Honda guys build a dsm... um yea. They also weren't smart enough to know the rear end was gonna snap an axle, especially with slicks on a 3 bolt.

actually aj he was joking around and called it a RWD. :dsmrule:

too bad apexi wasnt tuning the dsm, that would be cool. they were sooooo pissed at her, what a dumb women.

MustGoFaster 02-10-2004 12:05 AM

Why the fuck did they put slicks on an AWD??!!? Sounds like it was fucking stupid, maybe I don't want to watch it.

Raptor 02-10-2004 12:16 AM

It was pretty lame. A bunch of honduh guys trying the wrong way to make a DSM fast, ignoring the weekest parts and in general doing a lot of screwing around. Basically, they won in spite of themselves. It was entertaining to watch, but not worth anything as far as technical merit. And really, who didn't know the Talon would win.

b00stingsx 02-10-2004 12:27 AM

does anyone know what turbo he was using? it was said that he was making 300 some horses...

jimwross 02-10-2004 12:27 AM

I captured it to my computer, so if anybody wants it...

But yeah... WTF?! So they swap the honda, turbo it, drop a TON of money in to it; and then for the talon, bigger turbo? a bit of nitrous?

I watched 3/4 of it and turned it off; the chick was annoying and had way more resources and the apexi guy's were sketchy like those other people; for the $$$ they spent on the civic she should have one, if they had on the talon he'd be way faster...

Emcee gsxtc 02-10-2004 12:50 AM

i think they did it to attract attention for god knows what reason, i think the chick was a fake racer, the guy was picked out of an american eagle add, they were trying to get some drama, but overall it was terrible, not to mention the twenty pounds of decals, and then they had those recaros in the civic which magically disapeared before they get to the track, thought that was alittle odd. It there was anything real in that entire thing, it was the fact that the talon had problems (coil and then the axel). blah blah

Steeltwo 02-10-2004 01:31 AM

i think they used the stock turbo. Really they just bolted crap onto the dsm and put it on the track.

the civic was a completely new car when apexi got done with it.

i want to see a RRE do a car and put it out in 36 hours.
