New Beater

I picked up a new car for my DD and to run at the Spectator Drags out at RacewayPark.

1991 Galant VR-4 (1200/2000)
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...inion/1vr4.jpg
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...Minion/vr4.jpg
I swapped the bad tranny with Vassil's old 92 tranny, T-case, and rear subframe with 4bolt rear. Next is an E-Bay FMIC and a walbro with some 660s, and hooking up my old S-afc.

It's a deffinetly a beater but it has a solid driveline now and once I get the idle surge taken care of it will be ready to smoke those domestics out on the circle track this year.

Must be, I've had 6 of them. I sold all but two of them to people from out of state.

I'd give it a 7 out 10, It has a tear in the drivers seat but otherwise is pretty good

177,000 but I'm dropping in a stock rebuild shortblock with about 20K on it and my Lasers old ported head later this spring.

Yep, they're the old sellers pics. I can't find my digital camera right now.

Re: New Beater

I almost bought 1200 when I saw it up for sale a couple months ago, I wonder if it sold, and then was sold again shortly thereafter due to the tranny issues.

when you want to sell, post it up on style first, I need a black gvr4

Re: New Beater

That is a nice GVR4 you got there. I like the black on black rims. But some white ones be very hot.

Wow, it's been awhile since I picked this thing up. It finally runs properly and is titled & insured.

Update on progress

Factory spoiler removed from trunk lid
(shaved/filled with a fresh coat of nile black)

Swapped out the 4 wheel steering racks/pump/lines, and put in a manual rack. Installed a standard pressure 255 pump w/rewire.

Brandon's old 50 trim & injectors and an Evo FMIC are ready to install (using most of the stock I/C piping)

205/55/15 BFG Gforce sports are on the way from tire rack, should be here Friday.

3" turbo back exhaust mocked up, just waiting on my spiral flow Morroso muffler from Summit

New suspension will be going in this weekend

Battery relocate soon to follow

Re: New Beater

Drop springs and performance struts are installed and alignment is done.

Car handles so nice now that I wish I had upgraded the OE suspension on all my other DSMs back in the day. Not to mention the killer rake looks awesome.

I'll get some new pics up soon.

Re: New Beater

Camber top plates and rear struts wouldn't fit so I re-used the VR4 front top plates and blown out OEM rear struts. I have a set of AGX's on order for the rear.

Those springs sit sooooo nice though, and the camber plates will fit the Summit (which is for sale, kinda)

Re: New Beater

FMIC is installed with 2.5" hot side piping. I am using the stock cold side pipes until I can get an aluminum 1G BOV flange welded up on my UICP

AGX's came by UPS today and are going in tomorrow.

Re: New Beater

How do you like it without ps?

1QUICK4 05-13-2008 06:07 PM

Re: New Beater

Love it! Now I gotta ditch the ABS system and the Cruise setup.

It's takes a little more effort when at a stop and added about 1 extra turn lock to lock but there is so much more feedback. I can tell exactly how the car is going to respond to any given steering input.

I wouldn't recomend it for an AutoX setup but for open road racing and drag I'd say thumbs up.

Plus on a VR4 you get to ditch the 4WS and the 100 miles of lines that go with it.

I'll find out how it is this saturday. There's an autox test n tune saturday that I'll be going to just to get seat time and I have no ps.

Anyway, cool vr4. It's on my list of cars to own before I die/get married.

The car sits pretty nice with the evo suspension :) I like it

Re: New Beater

LOL, Especially when you compare it to the stock monster truck size wheel gap from the 1st pics :p

On another note, I ordered up a Gen 2 Maf-T today. As soon as it comes I can fap up my cold side piping and install Halon's old 50 trim.

Re: New Beater

damn. very nice setup man! I'm still considering about removing abs and the aws.

1QUICK4 08-12-2008 07:48 PM

Re: New Beater

Dropped some cams in it a couple of months ago.

Removed Cruise Control setup and replaced with non-cruise cable today. Also removed the old turbo setup and have the 50 trim ready to bolt on.

Now I just need my JMF intake mani and Jay Racing alternator relocate kit to get here soon so I can put this Bitch back together in time for the cookout.

Also suppose I need to sweet talk Shane into doing a tune on it! ;)

Plenty of ground clearance now. The sound is great but a little loud. I'll be putting a resonator or two in there this spring.

Got in a fender bender today :(

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...lant1002-1.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...lant1003-1.jpg

Luckily it was at about five miles an hour. Even at that speed it bent the core support, bent the fender, cracked the corner light, creased the hood, and possibly broke the headlight mounting tabs. http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif

She drove me 30 miles home just fine afterwards though.

I think I'll wait to put a new core support in it untill after racing season unless I can find one cheap.
