For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

And for those who want to know an odd fact about Evo IX's.

The rear does appear to be lower than the front in stock form, almost all images I find online show this stance, kind of weird. However quick searching hasn't turned up why they're like that other than the possible obvious?

Silly Mitsubishi. Oh well, drop it down!

Re: For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

I assume you mean the fender cut-outs for the wheels? I actually think most all cars are that way, since the front wheels need more room for turning, when going into a corner, the suspension moves a bit, and since the profile of the tire is different when the wheel is turned, you'd need more room up front. That's the best concept I come up with.

All evo's are like that stock. i'm sure it's something to do with the handling of the car. the wierd thing is that the springs made for it lower it to the right stance almost like mitsu did fuck up on something. odd. . . . . . but i bet someone had a reason for it. Crazy japanese.

He was only responsible for the starquests. Anyway, BMW and almost every other "wedge" shaped car has that feature. My conquest had it.

The rear wheel wells are always cut shallower than the front.

Re: For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

Yea my M3 appears to sit lower in the rear also, but its because the front fenders dont drop down as much. Not sure why they do this.

I figured you had stock springs, it would have rode alot harsher if it were dropped.

Re: For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

Yea, they all do sit low in the back, but when we were looking at it last night it looked excessively low..like I could stick my hand sideways on top of his front tire to measure fender gap...all four fingers fit fine. Measuring the back, there was zero room for any fingers to go in there. The top of the tire was very close to the top of the fender. My car is similar, but not this extreme:

Notice how you can still see a bit of space between the tire and the fender. His MR was not the case.

Nice looking ride though!

Not sure how it is with EVO's, but I know in S2Kland a lot of aftermarket springs actually ride softer than the factory springs.

Re: For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

How is that good for handling then, when there is more give then stock springs? Seems weird to me that it would be softer but offer better handling. Softer springs offer more give, stiffer springs are better for body roll.

Kracka 02-28-2007 12:41 PM

Re: For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

Some track testing has shown a softer spring is beneficial in the rear for the S2k (with proper shocks). Most high-end coilover systems are running softer that stock springs. The S2k suspension was softened up quite a bit for 02-03 from 00-01, even more so for 04-07.

I know this is way off base but...the Ford Taurus rearend has a sage problem. Aftermarket springs will fix it.

Why are people using fender gap differences between front and rear as a ride height measurement?

Way to ruin the topic Matt...

We were just wondering why his car sat lower in the rear, it was odd looking.

Re: For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

It doesn't sit any lower in the rear, it just looks that way because the wheel opening is smaller. The fender wheel opening is bigger so that you can turn the front tires, and have the suspension compressed and not rub the tire on the fender.

Thank you for pointing out than an obscene amount of people lack common sense and basic problem solving skills. :D

DoughtCom, post a pic of your car so these retards can see what we're talking about. Sure some cars sit lower in the back and it has nothing to do with anything, but as we've said, his car appears to sit extra low in the back.

Re: For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

Ya know what I might have figured it out. Your car has snow tires on it. That might make it look goofy because of the large tread on each tire. Post pics if you can! :D

Sure thing man, I'll get a pic taken tomorrow if I get a chance with all the snow.

Optical illusion because of the checkered floor. My car looks the same way.

Re: For those of you who were at the bees tonight...

WTF? Optical illusion? Yea it looked the same in the applebees parking lot.. There is barely any room to stick your hand above the tire and not touch the fender.

My point is if you measure the chassis clearance to the ground in the front and the rear the difference will be negligible. We've already established why the fenders are at different heights.
