Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
I would go with the SCM61. You would never have to upgrade again. If I were you, I would definately upgrade your downpipe to 3". Now I have a question for you, why are you running 3 fans?

Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
How many threads do you need to start to determine which turbo to get?
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
You dont have to make a new thread every time you have a new question about a different turbo. Just FYI.

Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
You need cams first. You won't get the full performance from the SCM61 without going to a sheetmetal intake and 3" downpipe also. And if you want the full performance of the 61mm compressor wheel in that turbo, then get a SC61 with a T3 exhaust housing, T3 exhaust manifold, an external wastegate, and a good O2 housing.

Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Ecoli is right. Nobody said it was gunna be cheap. You cant just get a bigger turbo and expect it to get you into the 10s.
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
ok cool thanks ecoli for the exhaust housing would .63 A/R better or .82 A/R be better? And for the compressor cover what is the difference from "E" and "S"
And your right M.98GSX nobody did say it was going to be cheap not even me? |
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Why 3 fans?
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
With the level of questions you're asking, you shouldn't be looking at anything larger then what you already have.
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Sorry, first posted fixed I have 2 fans.
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
The S is a larger compressor cover, I have one on my SCM61, but it probably doesn't do much, the exhuast housing is the limiting factor. If you go with the SC61, then it would be more of a benefit. The .63 housing will be somewhat limiting, but the .82 housing will be laggier and flow better.

Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
OT but that car does have 3 fans; it's my old car & it had some overheating probs for a while & through the course of things it ended up w/ a double-pull 12" FAL and one 10" SPAL pusher. It will never overheat again now :D
Cams and a SMIM are going to be a must if you want to run low 11's. A gt35r or SC/SCM61 will be probably necessary to. If I still had that car it'd be getting all of the above, probably a bigger turbo tho. |
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
ok thanks haha

Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Is the SCM6125 a good street turbo? or would the 20g be better for more street driving and racing?
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
:google: :search:
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
I have the 20g td06 and love it.

But the SCM6152S is a great street dsm turbo w/lag. SC61 with a stage 5 wheel. Good for 400+hp on pump on a 2.0 with proper tuning. |
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Have you done any research at all?
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
I vote no. Google is your friend dude
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
:google: or :aikido:
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
A 61 is going to be a fair amount laggier than a 20G.
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
People have run 11s, even 10s with a 20g or smaller with other help. I think a 20g/50trim would be the turbo for him.

Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Pirate turbo FTW!!!!
GT35R was last year, this year is GT42R. If your gonna be cool, then do it to it. |
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Just because 3 guys down in Winona are running them, doesn't make it the choice of turbo for the season. Besides, I wouldn't say they're "cool." Lol. JK. Jake is a good guy.
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
I actually wasn't referring to them, but at least we know who you are thinking about concerning cars.

As well as 2 cars with slightly smaller singles (being worked on), 1 car that will have larger than a gt42 (long term project) and 2 cars with massive twins planned. |
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Yo! This is a tech thread, not a pissing match!
gsxer, get yourself a 20G and see what it will do. If you can't pull 11's out of it then get something bigger and sell the 20G. It takes all of an hour or two to swap out a turbo, not that big of a deal to go bigger if you need to! |
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Roll a pair of dice until you get 2 numbers which are available in a trim (ie- 50, 57, 60, etc.).

Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Sorry, i was interrupted.
I say get something in a GT30 comp wheel and then its up to you on the other side. SC 61, 3052, 3065. or equivalents for those turbo. RST don't comment or make public judgements on what i say it just wastes space, plus no-one really gives a toss about it. I have dealt with Jake also and he is a cool guy. GSxer good luck, but plenty of research and late night will net you your answer. I usually go with threads that have results and logs, not just estimates. Also talking to guys like know, like the old guys here and shop owners. Not people with just a stack of badass parts waiting to be fast. |

Consider this space wasted. I don't see why you'd "waste space" talking about a turbo above and beyond (and the some) of his goal. But hey, you're a gopher at a local shop, your opinion must be valued. Your original post was useless. Just don't do it again. I hate stupidity, especially in the tech section. I will make public judgements/comments when there is truth behind it. It's obvious which side of the fence I'm on when push comes to shove - I'll just put that out there so you don't have to question it ever again. |
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Seriously, is it just fucking impossible to not go into personal attacks in tech threads? I don't care who does it anymore, I'm going to start banning people for a day here and there if they can't keep useless shit out of the tech areas.
A good point was also made, if the same thread is made 80 trillion times I'll ban that person for a day as well. |
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
I vote 20G. Loved mine.
|
Re: Which turbo would you guys prefer?
Not gonna lie, when noobish questions like this come up that are easily searchable and has been gone over many times before, and makes more than one thread w/ the same question, there's bound to be some banter and bashing. It doesn't help when latley it seems like everyone is bleeding out of their vag's. Just my thoughts though, don't ban me
On to something on topic...... For the amount of information you seem to have on turbos, and even your car in general, I think you need to do some more research on your own first before you size a turbo for your car (or ask everyone else to do it for you). Look at other people's set ups, check out tuning software, see what a new turbo actually takes to be ran correctly without toasting your engine, and for god's sake, use the search function and google. There's no need to re-invent the wheel here. If it's a DSM, it's been done, so I'd suggest checking out setups of other guys that are running the times you are looking for |
