My Winter Project....
Here it is from the start and finish (Sooner or later at least):
Here is a link to the other post: http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=251529 This started out as a simple build-up for next season until a few of us got drunk... that is when it really started... http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4086.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4087.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4091.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4104.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4105.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4106.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4111.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4115.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/100_4116.jpg So I tore it apart a little bit.... I decided I needed to obviously save some weight so that is when the next phase began.... Here is how I started to remove extra uneeded weight: http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/2/100_4130.jpg |
Re: My Winter Project....
I decided my old 10 point mild steel cage was too heavy so obviously it had to go:
http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/3/100_4217.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/3/100_4219.jpg I figured it was easier just to remove the floor Obviously I needed to replace the cage and floor so that was next.... http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/4/random-040.jpg http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/4/random-043.jpg |
Re: My Winter Project....
I also figured I would FINALLY need some slicks to help hook the car up considering I used to spin em badly and now it should weigh around 1,000 lbs less so I picked up these little guys....
http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/4/100_4209.jpg And considering the size of the rear slicks I figured I wouldn't need much for the front so I settled for these.... http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/4/100_4205.jpg |
Re: My Winter Project....
Here was one of my early cad drawings of what I wanted to do and make sure I pass the 25.1 spec:
http://www.thedrunken.com/thread/4/dsfront.jpg The geometry of the car was slightly different than I expected so I did have to make a few changes. I also made a few different versions on the cad drawing to make it lighter or stronger or both but you get the idea. The body panels have been mocked up with a jig so they will be straight. I have braced the body so it is reasonably straight as well. It will need final touches once I get ready to bolt it to the new frame. It will still obviously be the 4G63 running a GT4202 or something similair. It will run Methanol (and Nitrous eventually). The test motor is a decently built one that I plan to shift at around 10.5k. Using a 3 speed mockup design I expect the car to top out around 180-200 given enough go-go juice and time. This season it will mainly be testing and tuning it. Ive never driven a fast RWD car moreless this damned thing so it will need some time to get worked it but I will make it to a few national event for sure next year. The shootout is garunteed (sp?). I am thinking one of the Nopi events would be fun... havent decided for sure yet. The car will be certified for 7.50 seconds or quicker from SFI and I will be licensed to run it so I can enter any sanctioned event. It will have all safety requirements. |

Re: My Winter Project....
As far as the aero, yes it is a horrible platform to build a drag car of this magnitude but it is one of a kind and its mine. My estimated ride height will be roughly 6.88" off the ground.. perhaps slightly lower in the front. The entire front end will be fiberglass sealed. I will install a drag spoiler to help diffuse the air in the rear of car. I will also spend some time cleaning up underneat the car with aluminum plating as well as the front and rear underside. It will help but it is still a very large frontal area that can not be avoided without lowering the roof line which I dont plan to do.
As for the money "wasted" dont bother me with wasting money. I smoke cigs, drink Vodka and eat out every day. This is no more of a waste than anything else I do. I enjoy it so thats all that matters :) As for the its not an Evo anymore well I suppose anyone else that changes thier manuals to an auto or vica versa is a new car. Anyone that uses a chevy 12 bolt rear end instead of the stocker isnt the same car. Anyone using a dogbox. Anyone that cut anything from thier car to make it lighter, etc, etc... dont bother posting any of those comments please. Its my car, its my Evo, its my money. If you dont like it then dont try to duplicate it. If you do like it, then please do try to duplicate it... trust me its fun and kills lotsa boredom! |
Re: My Winter Project....
Now where was that kid with the Civic that wanted SOOO badly to race me :) lol!

Re: My Winter Project....
Wow.

Re: My Winter Project....
Part of me says "Poor Evo..." The other part says "Holy shit, that's fucking cool!"
|
Re: My Winter Project....
Im hoping to have it out and about around the 4th of July. Ill keep this updated as I go along.

This build reminds me of a song called "The Ecstacy of Gold" by Ennio Morricone. Metallica has covered it as well. Where are those pics of the brakes? I need a chuckle.

Re: My Winter Project....
Very cool and intense project but why do that to such an expensive shell?!? I guess I dont get that part, when you could have thrown the project at a cheap DSM shell. Looking forward to seeing the final product though!
|
Re: My Winter Project....
Good luck with it! Looks like an involved project. More involved then anything I'd ever do.
|
Re: My Winter Project....
To me, there's no reason to say "Poor evo". There's so many Evo's sold in the US, it's not like an old muscle car which really would be horrible.
I think it's badass. I'm almost proud to live in the same town as this thing. |
Re: My Winter Project....
The expensive shell part is for a few reasons... one is because it is the only one. Two I already had it. It will be worth more than it was when it was brand new anyways so honestly what do I care :)
I could have tried to sell it and buy a junkyard one but its not too easy selling a car with a 10 point in it for any decent amount of money :) |
Re: My Winter Project....
Wasn't this your gf's car?

Re: My Winter Project....
That like doesn't count as an evo anymore. haha Shit thats so custom! Good luck and cant wait to see it when its done!

People are whining that this guy here up in moorhead is wrecking a supra by doign the same thing, basically. except he just back-halved the car. |

The people wrecking those rare cars into drag cars are the ones who should get yelled at. |

Re: My Winter Project....
I see you have some prominant members in the DSM/Evo communities posting in your thread. Congraduations, you are now on their radar and they will be watching. As for their statements about it not being an Evo - I think it was funny that AMS stated that they were doing the same thing to an Evo I/II, yet they still called it an Evo. Also, on Buschur's website they have a Pro-Class 98 Talon - still called a Talon. Tell them to correct themselves, then they can make such a statement. Screw all the flack. Build it, race it, and make people jealous.
|
Re: My Winter Project....
Buschur was very nice actually. He did go through the same exact shit that I am / will be going through. AMS is clearly jealous / worried because it is obvious that thier car will not compete :) Buschur already knows what this car will undoubtedly run when its complete and it obviously doesnt bother him. He sold his Pro RWD that back in the days with 660s and a VPC ran a low 8 or a 7 (Cant remember exactly).
Oh and yes, this is my girlfriends car :) I just kinda use it I guess you could say! I have known Buschur and AMS for a while... Buschur has always been pretty nice to me and AMS has always hated me since my intake manifold design. They tried to belittle me and throw long words at me to make it seem like thier intake manifold was so great... then I showed them what CFD and engineering could provide and they pretty much shut up. Some other interesting crap about AMS is thier time attack car which has been gutted 75% as far as mine (They even cut their roof out). That one is still an Evo though... lol. Or the fact that they pretend that they have pretty much built thier Evo 1/2 (However it becomes a 1/2? They have been trying to sell the car before it was finished for probably 8 months so far and supposedly they did sell it but cant get ahold of the buyer. They said they just havent gotten a chance to work on it for awhile.... doesnt make much sense why they would say that since they sold it :) |

Re: My Winter Project....
That's what I was confused about. Atleast she's supportive of it all! Those are the girls to keep around!

Re: My Winter Project....
:) I bought if for both of us. The car is in her name, I just pay for it. We both enjoy it so whoevers car that ends up being I suppose.

Who cares about the haters. It is your ride and your choice. Allot of folks will jump the band wagon when you break records and kiss your ass. Keep up the good work and keeping reality into check. I know allot of folks do allot of talking and can't get the first spark plug out of their car.

Re: My Winter Project....
Guys, this is the PROJECT forum, not the SANDY VAGINA forum. EvilEvo, please keep the shit talking to a minimum and the updates to a maximum :D
Everyone else, unless you have something worth-while to say, please take it elsewhere (i.e. create a new thread in the off-topic forum (parking lot) since you're whining will only further drag the topic of this thread into the gutter. This is an insane build-up. Let's grow up and watch it unfold. If evil wants to boast a little, let him. Wouldn't you if this thing was in your garage? |

I was just reading your thread on EvoM. AMS and Buscher sure are being complementary about your work.
Its too bad you have to come on this board and talk shit about them. :( |

I used solidworks to make the model proto-type. I use FloWorks for the lighter CFD stuff and Fluent for the more extensive stuff. Yes I ran load simulations but I honestly dont know how accurate they are considering that is not even the exact design on how it turned out. It is also hard for me to find out exactly where the load would be placed and at what direction, etc, etc... I mainly used the load testing part on small certain clusters. Another reason I couldnt really do much of the load testing is the way I stuck all the piping together. I did it in a way that none of them are technically connected in solidworks.... that way I could make a parts list with lengths and even print out the coped cuts for each pipe should I want to. If you want let me know what the parts are and if it isnt too complicated Ill draw them up for ya. |

I will run the car in Pro RWD or Pro Outlaw RWD depending on the race so there will not be any street cars competing against me... they will all be full tube vehicles like mine, most of which have sponsers and financial backing... all of which I dont so yes, I will get my ass handed to me and enjoy every lashing. As for the times I expect to run I dont want to even guess but beating an 8.97 better not be too tough :) As for the full weight Supras... not sure I have ever seen one run an 8 second pass.. Im sure there are a few I just havent seen them so no, I will run in a quicker class then what they would. |
Re: My Winter Project....
Oh... and I dont believe I did talk any shit about Buschur... in fact I think I kinda defended him. And once again I didnt realize you liked AMS so much so Im sorry for being rude about them. Like I said before, they got really pissed off at me after the whole intake manifold thing so since then I have not been awfully found of them. Then they had to go talk about thier tube car that they sold and decided to omit that fact and to top it off called it an Evo I/II right after they told me mine was no longer an Evo VIII. That is the reason behind it. Not sure what your big problem with me really is but screw it. If you dont like me or my project dont talk about it :) No need to talk about that shit anymore.
On another note, I finished the rear of the funny car cage which is the last tube that I will put on until the body gets mounted temporarily. I need to find the exact location of the front tires so I need the body to make sure its perfect. I plan on getting that done by early next week. Once thats done Ill need to finish the front end w/ steering and suspension which wont take long. I already made brackets to hold the suspension and rims on the rear so it should be a rolling chassis soon :) |
