Project Fast Spyder
This winter/spring I am doing a ton of Projects/MODs. This Thread will fill you guys in on it.
The Mods: Built 2.4L -Eagle Rods -Wiseco Pistons -ARP Head Studs -ARP Main Studs -ACL Bearings -Cometic Head Gasket -6-Bolt Main Girdle -BS Elim -All the Mitsu Timing parts and Front Cover SS Fuel Lines(Possibly from the tank back to the tank) Magnus Intake Manifold Greddy Cam Gears AEM Wideband Controller Coil On Plugs Pretty JMF Heatshield SS Turbo Feed and Return(Both coolant and oil) And Possibly -HKS 280 Cams -T-bolt Clamps all around -Ksport Coilovers -Aluminum Radiator -Water Injection -AWD Now for the projects: Rewire the whole engine bay to make it look clean, Split up the Big harness and make small ones that will blend in, Get rid of wire im not using(Soleniods, CAS...) Move Ugly Underhood Fuse Box To Inside. That thing is ugly and makes the underhood look nasty Here is where im at soo far Picked up my Pistons, Rods and ARPs yesterday http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1127.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1128.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1129.JPG The Wire MESS! All Sorted out just need to wire loom it and disconnect the unwated wires and possibly shorten up most of the wires. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1123.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1124.JPG Let me know what you think. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Wow looks like one hell of a project. Good luck!
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
very nice you swap it like mine awd
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
That big of a wire project will make me go crazy for a day or two. It will look very sweet and clean when you are done. Good luck.
P.s are you moving the battery to the back or is it already done? |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
That has already been done :)
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Nice dude, good luck!

Re: Project Fast Spyder
A little update:
Went to MAP on sunday and ordered ACL race bearings and Cometic head gasket Also this stuff came in the mail today... Greddy Cam Gears http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1228.JPG COP Plate http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1230.JPG Black Prothane Motor Mounts, AEM Serial Gauge, 6AN Fuel Line And Fuel Rail Fittings http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1229.JPG |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Nice project. And to think this all started with removing a BCS restrictor in the parkinglot of Elite on the dyno day. Quite a change.... ;)
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Looks like you got alot of nice parts. How did that wire tuck go or are you still working on that?

I just went out yesterday and did some more on the wiring. Its gonna be awhile before thats done. Alot more work then I thought, but managable. Next week is my spring break and I took off work as well so I will hopefully get alot done(assuming I get up and actaully work on it) |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
UPDATE:
Most have seen the plates and here is an update with pics. Wiring is mostly done. Im as far as I can go without the engine in the car. Rear suspension out and gas tank out. I have the 2 front bolts for the gas tank in and working on removing the FWD tank mounting brackets but I broke my drill bit and Im too lazy to go buy another one :)(right now). I have everything I need except exhaust and fluids. Here are some pics I just took. Interior all torn apart. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1280.JPG As you can see I had to drill some holes for the front tank bolts(on the inner side of the seat mounts/holder thingys) http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1279.JPG Now for the goods... 2.4l all takin apart just gotta get it machined http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1273.JPG Rear subframe and gas tank(yah the garage is a mess get over it :) ) http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1274.JPG Hard to see but its a -6 fitting on the fuel sending unit to the pump. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1275.JPG http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1276.JPG Rear 1/4 shot with no rear parts http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1277.JPG Under the car with no tank or rear subframe and 2 front tank bolts in place http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1278.JPG This should be going pretty fast now all I have to do is find time to work on it. These last few days have been "top down weather" and Im getting pissed! Let me know what you think! |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
so is it pretty easy to bolt in that rear sub-frame? Or is there some fab involved?
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Lookin' good! Are you doweling the mains on the engine? This is a must if you are putting ARP mains in. It will cost a little bit more for the machining (line honing and installing dowels), but it really should be done. I lost my first rebuilt engine because the engine builder didn't do this.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Are you finished with the wiring? And why do you have two pairs of tin snips under the car? Problems with the heat shield? Still have a bit to go, but you could pull it off before the leaves start to change color. It's only April. As for finding the time, JUST MAKE THE TIME!!
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
All you have to do to install the rear is put some bolt in(holes already there) and bolt it up.
As for the motor. Im not sure if im going to have it dowled yet. probably tho. The wiring in mostly finished just have to wait to get the engine in to route all the wires where they need to go. The tin snips were for the fuel lines(hard lines) I had to cut them off to get them all the way out. Im hoping to get this out and running by FOR SURE the end of May. Hopefully ALOT sooner! |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
That will be sweet. AWD spyder. BTW, it looks like the back is floating.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Hopefully all the parts are good. I was just thinking that I have no clue on the mechanical condition of the tranny. So hopefully it doesnt grind!
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Looks nice. Man is it nice to have the top down in this weather... Ha ha
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Yes tease him. Might get him to work on it faster. Wow looking really slick. Are you going to tuck the wires down by the rear Motor mount or how you running them up to the top of the engine? I love to copy your work when I get my car back. I think the wiring in the engine bay is to cluttered.....
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Looking good man! Keep going & keep taking pics!
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I don't mean to hate on the project since it is a really fun looking build, but why are you bolting the rear end to the car? If I were you, I'd definately weld them in!!

Re: Project Fast Spyder
We talked to John Gosh about machine work last night.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Looks good. It sure was nice riding home from school with the top down today.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
STFU! You son of a bitch! :) Im gonna go get my sisters car and roll with the top down!

Re: Project Fast Spyder
Wow that is very nice and looks hella cleaner then the stock wiring. After doing all that do you think it was easy with the engine out or do you think you can do it with it in? I am for sure doing this as a winter project. Another question what was the total cost so far of what you needed for doing that? And I like to see a far shot of the engine bay of it too. Looking very nice keep up that great work. And yes post more pics. And Get R done.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I will get you a wide shot later on. The total cost for the wiring was...
extra wiring harness-$50(was not nessesary) wire loom-$50(25ft of every size-ebay special) Solder and heatshrink-$30 Elecrtical tape-$15 So Total about $150 but like I said the harness was not nessesary I though it would be but it wasnt. Also I spent a total so far of maybe 70-80 man hours doing it. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
For comparison, I spent 80 dollars on an engine harness from a 1G. You got a good deal on that harness, and anyone else buying one shouldn't have to pay more than 50 bucks.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Yah it was pretty cheap. But this was for the fuse box harness, usually the one for the engine is more(with all the sensors and junk).
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
are you done yet? I would have had that done weeks ago.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Quote:
haha ouch... Well I don't have to worry about buying a new harness. Because I have one off of my other engine. Thanks for the info. I'll look foward to that wide shot. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Yah he's just being a bitch. What you guys dont know is that Im probably closer to being done then he is :).
UPDATE: Installed the AWD gas tank and Fuel lines. I need to get a welder to my house to do more. Here are some pics. Wiring "Wide Shot" http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1287.JPG Gas Tank Installed http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1286.JPG Fuel Lines From In The Car http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1285.JPG Modified Stock Fuel Line Bracket http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1289.JPG Fuel Lines Under The Car http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1291.JPG http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1290.JPG |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
How did you go about labeling the wires before cutting them? Did you use a certain color of electrical tape so that you didn't need to guess which wire matched up with which wire after it was brought back in the car? Black, blue, and brown look exactly the same and with the right amount of grease, any color can look like black.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
What you dont want to do is cut a bundle of wires. I cut each wire one at a time then shorten them and soldered. But mostly went by the color of the wires. Took some break cleaner on a towel and wiped them off if they were full of dirt/grease.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
thats a ton of work but it will be clean... now for the clean factor i would ditch the ac (hey its a soft top) and then do an alternator relocation. also, I would maybe ditch the power steering or come up with a custom set-up to mount that in back to... that would really bling up the engine bay and it would also help in keeping your bay looking empty
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I have been debating about the AC. I will keep power steering for sure because Im a pussy :). As for the AC we will see how often I use it this year and that will deside if I keep it or get rid of it.

Re: Project Fast Spyder
Thurs Jesse came over and welded up the brackets for the driveshaft. I didnt realize that the carpet fell back into place and was right where we were welding...
http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1292.JPG I was scared and wasnt thinking and put the fire out with my hand :). Now I have like 7 blisters from being burned. But just another reason to start on the BLACK interior project. Anyways Sat before the dyno day I bolted up the rear end, and today I finished putting all the suspension parts together. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/000_0090.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/000_0091.jpg I wish the car that this came off of wasnt soo rusty but owell. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
you should have had everything sandblasted and powder coated, oh and from my experience with spyders, unless you drive with the top up 90 percent of the time and the windows closed we never used my friends ac last summer.... just thought i would let you know
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
oh and its looking awesome btw
