Well what a way to start off 2007
So since I've already typed this one and the computer froze. I'm just going to keep it short and the sarcastic commentary out. Cause I'm just to tired.
Motor in the eclipse crankwalked today along with i'm sure a spun bearing, and who knows what else. (probably happened yesterday when andy, and I went to Applebees last night) but what ever. Concordes dead and now the eclipse is toast after 3000 miles. It was probably a detonation thing due to my head problems (ie: oil and coolant issues, sputtering) |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Come on... You can't be serious. :(
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Get out of DSM's, seriously. You have had worse luck than anyone I've known. Sorry to hear about this though :(

j/k. That really does suck. But There are plenty of cars out there that don't crankwalk. My economics teacher would say, "time to cut your sunk costs and move on." |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
That's no fucking good man..... Lemme know if you need a hand w/ anything. Why does everything always seem to fuck itself in the ass at one time??? What happened to the concord?
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
I was at applebees the one in rosemount, Kyle, andy and i were at my house playing games. (cod, and Halo)
I'm pretty sure Its time to move on the shells ugly needs paint, the motors shot, the onlything holding me from moving to a different set up besides money is the fact that I have so much into it if I start over I'll have to everything all over again. But a Vette or Supra would be my next car if I switched. |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Just switch platforms, you will be happier. I know I am.

I think you need a
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...s33/2jzpo4.jpg But really there are other cars out there that can be just as fast and look just as good. Get an LSX american car and put your 67 on it. Make mad powah and, well I was going to say grow a mullet but I don't think that would work for you. Part it out. |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Damn Brian! Sorry to hear!
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
OMGWTF! That sucks! How many miles were on it? That sucks some serious ass.
If you go shopping for newer stuff, you have to promise me you will at least drive an Evo! |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Wow, that really sucks Brian! :( I'd also say it's time to cut your loss and move on to something that's not going to cause so much pain.
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Man that sucks. I wonder if it was more oil contamination/metal to metal contact, due to the fact that your motor really seems to like to puke oil.
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Nope its a supra or Vette for me. No evos... I really like the new C6's. But I did find a TTZ06 I like for the same price as the supras I'm looking at.
I thought about the stealth but with the tranny problems I'm seeing with swanny and the other black one I saw at BIR makes me hesitant. I''m sure the oil that was getting into combustion chamber had something to do with it. It was sputtering like always, i'm thinking it just miss timed during a sputter and might have fired at on an up strock or something, I didn't have the laptop on to see if it was knocking and although it never knocked before I can't say it wasn't. But it is what it is, definetely has major rod knock. Sounds just like my old crankwalked 7bolt, kyle agreed with me. |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
I'd say part it out and corvette at this point....
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Althought not a huge fan of either, I'd go Supra > 'Vette.
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Vette. New, fairly reliable and fast stock. Supras and 3S's are the same as DSM's, you need to put money in to make them fun and then they're not reliable anymore. Plus they're old.
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Cut your losses and move on, it will only get worse. Im glad I got out of DSMs, they are evil. Sorry to hear about it though... definetly not a good start to the new year.

Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Vette FTW. DSMs are definitely a stepping stone and its time for you to step on up. My vote goes towards GM V8 LS-Series, they are gods gift to ERF!!!
Whatever you do, good luck and if i can help in anyway i am there. |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
That sucks, I would think a different platform also. I would say you have had some of the worst luck with dsms out of just about anyone I know.

Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
How old is the engine anyways? I can't remember if you had it built or if you were still on the stocker.
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Vette or GTO if you want some practicality.

Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
yep concorde died about a week ago. Been driving the eclipse since then to work and back. Picked up Sean with it (he lives by LSE) and then out to Apple Bees in Rosemount the otherday. Motor was Johns old motor out of his red car that was rebuilt. Had maybe 3000 miles on it but thats besides the point. Way to many variables to know what exactly happened. It is what it is. Its just the thought of starting over and that expense that frightens me.
The possitive note I can think of, is that if I got a supra the BPU(maybe a ++) would be just as fast as my eclipse I'd think. Kyle and i have been working on the concorde and its not something simple that we can find. Battery ok, Alternator ok, and spark plug wires ok. There is a short someplace and it time to bring it to the dealership. (but this is getting off topic so i'll stop there) |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Sorry man. A new engine isn't that expensive, but you need to make sure to have the thing running good. You seem to need a reliable car so I say go with a vette, C5's are nice and cheap.
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Damn that car sure knows when to quit. Brian .. I loved that Eclipse both GSX and GST. What ever path you take make it a good one. And my 2 cents LS motor. Like said before 2jz is a nice motor. But when modded ... it starts to break. Part out the car. And walk away. Once I get my Talon back I am going to drive it until she dies agian.... That be the last DSM I own.

I agree 100%. The only other option I would consider woulf be an 03-04 Cobra. It lacks a little in the interior department but is a solid platform for big power and some good fun. Vettes are awesome, C6's are even better. I would love one but at this point I would have a hard time buying a 2 seater even though the rear seats in a Mustang are pretty much worthless. |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Also, just curious what is going on with the Concord? I would be more than happy to put you through with a Chrysler/Dodge tech that really knows his stuff. He would be more than happy to talk your ear off about the Chrysler and give you pointers on fixing it. He was a wrench at a dodge/chrysler/jeep dealership for quite a few years. Now he is my manager but will talk Mopar as long as you let him.

Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Well we changed battery spark plugs and checked alternator, everything checked out ok. Oh ever when you try to start the car it just clicks but nothing happens all the lights inside dash, stereo, a/c etc all flicker on adn off with the clicking. Occasioanly (maybe 1 in 50 tries) the car will start up and run. once you shut it off or if it dies the car won't restart and you're in the same boat. it's almost as if the starter is stuck or something or there is a ground thats causing interferance. it's definetely eletrical. Cause sometime just before the car finally died when ever it rained the car would do this. But once it got dry it would be fine. Sometime while your driving the stereo would shut on and off (ie: loose power) then sometime the whole car alltogether would die and then come back on.
other then that I can't tell you. I'm sure its an electrical problem but kyle and i couldn't find it. |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
I have a built short block for sale if you need it. Let me know.
It's sucks parting out a car you put so much in to, but there is life after DSMs like others have already pointed out. |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
I'm really sorry to hear about your GSX Brian. Z06's or supra ftw.
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
I feel your pain man, I hit a deer with my car on thursday coming back from St. Cloud. Car is totalled so I need to find another one soon.
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
Bad ground on the concorde? If the lights flicker, that's usually a bad battery. I dunno.
Better luck! |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
^Had that same exact problem one time that you are describing and it was a bad battery. I had just bought the battery a few months before and brought it back to where I got it and got another free because of the warranty. The voltage checked out ok on it, but they had it tested at their shop and it was still bad.

Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
There is a Twin turbo Supra for sale here in cali at a local dealer for like $25k. Lemme know if you wanna fly down. :)
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
You could get a nice c5 vette for 25K also. or find a decent one for 20k and put new heads, a big cam and headers/exhaust on and make 500 hp. w00t.

there's something for ya. Sorry to hear about the dsm. I too hope to get a supra after the dsm life. but, that's not till my loans are all gone (which except for the school loans, almost are done) -A. Swift |
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
^^ That's a pretty sweet car, but I don't understand how he can say that the best the car ran on stock turbos was a 12.14 @ 118.70mph. Then at the end of that paragraph he says the car was never raced....
|
Re: Well what a way to start off 2007
looks good there is a red one in burnsville for 25K also that looks nice but i have myeye on a few others. However its all about the money andspending 35K on a car right now just isn't gonna happen. At least not till my house is sold and the divorce is finalized. I'm starting to think it might jsut be best to rebuild just for financial reason.
Right now though i'm just trying to figure out how i'm going to get to work tomarrow. |
