New Hot Rod!

I put a deposit on this last week. It's in Detroit. I should be heading out tomorrow evening to go pick her up! I'm sure most of you know what this is already, so no need to go into details. It's bone stock. Doesn't start though.

Awesome. I'll be free the 3rd through the 6th if you want to work on it.

11b's everywhere. Just wait, I'm going to get more people to buy Colts.

I go back to work on the 2nd, but I'll be home after work on the 5th, and the 6th. Whenever you wanna swap that stuff onto your car.

Stock block, GT42R, 150 shot and 1950 lbs equals one crazy ride. Let's mod that thing up.

Haha, yes but beware, in AV mustangs still rule the streets save for the occasional "11 second" SRT4. If they figure out how to tune their NOS timing or tie their shoes, woe is the world.

Haha, best quote of the year!

Nice find though B. Why is it that it needs to be towed?

timing belt, fuel pump, transistor/coil pack, ecu, spark plugs/wires, you get the idea.

Re: New Hot Rod!

Yup. He said it cranks, says it has a spark, has compression. So it's looking like fuel, or some sort of bad sensor somewhere. He says it doesn't even hiccup like it wants to start, it just cranks. When I get it, I'm going to go back over everything. First thing I'm going to check is the timing belt. Then crank it and recheck compression, spark, and make sure it's getting fuel. If it's getting all that, well then that'd lead me to believe it's not getting the correct mixture of air/fuel, and I'll probably hook up a logger, start going after different sensors.

I figured with him saying it cranks and has good compression, well I can work with that for $675

14b with 1g side mount and your good to go.

Than the fun starts when you yank that 4g61t out and drop in a 4g63t. Damn still waiting for SlowV to get his tuned. Good luck on the trip.

2g Bubble cars? Real guys drive 1g wedges.... B have a safe trip to pick her up. Wave alittle south east at me. When you hit Detroit.

Re: New Hot Rod!

Well I just got home. The trip took way longer then we though because we ran into a few bumps along the way. But I got her, and she's in the driveway! Definately has some rust that's for sure! Looks like this guy, or the one before, had a lot of shit rigged up. Some of the wires look not stock in the engine bay. I'm sure I'll be having fun troubleshooting this baby! I need some sleep though, I am beat!

Re: New Hot Rod!

nice. Yup I just got to get this thing in the garage and start cleaning up everything. Might take some time, but it's all good! One of the first things I'm going to do is rip all this emissions hosing out of there. It's a freaking cluster of hoses everywhere. Then decipher this wiring shit.

Dude you ever get that thing started?

Halon 01-11-2007 09:01 AM

Re: New Hot Rod!

It's cold out, so I haven't gotten a whole lot done. What I have gotten done, is I figured out a bunch of his goofy wiring. I removed all the emissions and non-neccessary vacuum hoses because that was a complete mess. I found 2 spark plugs were crap (the annode and the cathode were touching) so i replaced all the plugs, it's looking like the timing is screwed up, so I will have to redo that. One of the spark plug wires is shot, so I'm looking for replacement wires for cheap right now. The throttlbody is pretty stick, and has a small piece broken off it, so I will be converting it to accept the spare 91-94 style Throttle Body I have laying here. I have the intake and charge piping all off, and I'm going to sandblack it all because it looks like absolute hell. I'm also awaiting CVD to do a couple things to his car, so I can use his ECU since my car doesn't have one.

Kracka 01-11-2007 09:09 AM

Re: New Hot Rod!

Thats good you are finding issues at least, maybe the spark and timing issues alone will be enough to get it fired up.

SLOW_V 01-11-2007 09:25 AM

Re: New Hot Rod!

If you want some cheap wires, I got some from my 1g motor you can take for free. I also have some other things laying around i.e. spark plugs,450 injectors, side mounts, 90 tb,..etc

Halon 01-11-2007 12:31 PM

Re: New Hot Rod!

Where are you located. I'd take those wires off your hands if you aren't too far away. I don't think I'd need anything else though. I'm going with a front mount, I should be fine with my 91 TB which i prefer over a 90 TB anyway, I already have someone hooking me up with 450's, I will use CVD's ECU to troubleshoot with, and once the car starts I have a 90 ECU to put on the car, a 1g MAS, stock dsm cams. I should be set I think. But if you're nearby, ya I'll pick up those wires. Otherwise I may just buy new wires for the talon, and throw the old ones in the colt.

Well I figured I'll just use this thread as a record of everything I'm doing. I've already ripped some shit out, but I'll just start where I'm at right now. Here's a couple current pics of the project, in it's supreme glorious form!

That's my Non-Cruise Throttle cable laying on the valve cover. Haven't gotten that totally installed quite yet.

Since they're non-intercooled, and since Nash seems to be doing damn fine with his stock fmic, I picked this up off a local guy. The fins were in pretty bad shape, but nothing a pair of tweezers, and about 4 hours couldn't finish. I also gave it a light coat of flat black spray paint, too keep things on the DL, ya hurrrd.

Halon 01-22-2007 06:01 PM

Re: New Hot Rod!

As you can see by the first 2 pics, she's been pretty neglected. Right now I'm going through, and redoing all the ghetto arse wiring under the hood. And excessive amount of wire nuts, and butt splices are present. I'm cleaning it up using a soldering iron and some heat shrink.

Also the TB could be better. It has a 90 style TB on it. I'm swapping in a spare 91 I have sitting here, with a lovely blue QPR isc/fiav blockoff plate!

I also removed all the emissions off it. That was one of the first things I did as it looked like a vacuum line bomb went off under there.

Once it is running, I plan on switching to a honda half sized radiator to make a little more room infront of the turbo. So if any of you have a spare honda half sized radiator laying around, hook a brotha up!

Anywho, it's not quite the project that TKR took on, but it's a decent one for me. I'll keep this thread updated with my progress.
