Alright everyone, I know this is early to be planning this already, but I want to make sure everyone has a chance to save up some money for this event since its going to cost a bit more. This event will be planned for a Saturday in April and will conclude the following Sunday.

The plan is to leave the Cities Sat morning and cruise up to Duluth via scenic roads. Once in Duluth we'll meet up with the Duluth DSM group, grab some food and cruise some more up the north-shore to Gooseberry Falls and do some hiking/sight-seeing. We'll be getting hotel rooms in Duluth for Sat night (I'll get us a group rate at a good hotel, and I promise it won't be too expensive and it'll include a free breakfast in the morning). We'll of course eat at the famous Anchor Bar over in Superior, WI. We'll party it up in Duluth Sat night, there are a few good bars to check out including Grandmas and DAC/21 North. Yes, college will still be in so expect plenty of hotties! Sunday morning we can check out some more tourist spots and then head on back to the Cities.

I'd love to hear some feedback/input about this event, this year's fall cruise was great, but I want an even larger turnout!

*ALL cars are welcome on this cruise so drive what you have*

Sounds good to me! I like the idea of staying overnight, that would be fun. The roads up there are really nice and curvy! Too bad this is over 4 months away lol.

Overnight stay and a cruise to a destonation FTW!

Yeah this'll be fun guys, I hope everyone can make it. Right now it looks like we can get rooms at a very nice Canal Park hotel (right on Lake Superior and within walking distance to bars/restaurants, the touristy area of Duluth) for about $100; split the room between 2-4 (more if you want) people and its not expensive at all.

For right now, I'm thinking either April 14/15 or 21/22. The weather should be nice and warm by then; great way to kick off the '07 season.

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Do they have a Super 8 in the area? LOL? $100 a night is on the high side I think for those who don't want to pull a DSM Shootout event and cram 4 guys in one room. LOL.

I think this would be a hella fun idea though! I'd probably prefer the 14/15 as the 21/22 would be a little too close to the wedding for us, dealing with last minute items in IA.

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Someone link me to some good duluth pics so I can get a web page up for the event and plaster it in various areas of the site.

If I can get a motor rebuild between school getting done (first week in may?) and the date of the cruise, I would be down, but I would probably drive from Bemidji over to Duluth and meet you guys there.

There are cheaper hotels such as the Super 8 and Motel 6 that are in the $50 range so I should be able to find something that fits everyone's budget.

We'll plan this for April 14/15 right now so it doesn't interfere with your wedding arrangements.

HAWT! Maybe you'll be driving a Mitsu by then? ;)

Oh yeah, What's their super 8 like? The only reason I asked is that when Jana and I road tripped to TN this summer we stayed at super 8 in every spot. Some where REALLY nice and cost was alwasy low. But if it's a shitty super 8 then yeah, I'm all for the better hotel.

BTW, Jana has NEVER been to D Town. And I've only driven though it. So we are looking forward to this.

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

I've never stayed in the Duluth Super 8, but I did stay at the Motel 6 once and it was fine; nothing fancy but it was clean and in good condition in a decent area.

The Best Western at the foot of the bridge over in Superior, WI would be another good choice. Its about $80 a night, has an indoor pool and a free breakfast. Its a fairly new and nice hotel in a good location with plenty of parking.

This will be a good time, D-town has a few things to offer and drinking is of course one of them!

Sounds like a good time. It is going to rough for the people upgrading over the winter to get the car done and dyno'd by April. I have the M though, so I am game as long as there aren't any conflicts.

Thor06 12-10-2006 02:33 PM

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Damn, I'm out. I was going to toss an engine together over spring break or in my dorm here, but I dont want a room that constantly smells of car and I am probably going to Georgia for spring break.

That silver Starquest is fuckin gorgeous, who owns that?

AJ 12-10-2006 02:35 PM

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Once the RF Schedule is posted I am going to look at a Spring Opener Dyno Day at least 2 weekends before hand.

It was Reid's (Shotgun) when the picture was taken, now its Ryan's (Mustgofaster). The red Talon is Cory's (Intrigued) and the Corolla is Cory's brother. The S2k is of course mine.

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Great idea, please finalize the date ASAP, cause i will have to request the weekend off from the army. Jet is kinda right a bit of a tight squeeze for that, but GREAT FUCKING IDEA again.
I can't wait to take a fucking road trip, only thing is that damn 16G will be sitting in boost the whole time!!!
I am down, just have to figure out somethings with the car, i am down with the cheaper rooms, i don't think that we will be sleeping much.
I am stoked for this

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

There is a Holiday Inn or something that I remember staying in last year when I was up there snowboarding. They just built a huge indoor water park there as well. The rooms on the back side of the building looked out over the road toward the lake, don't recall it being that expensive either.

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Thats the edgewater, They are a little more spendy just because of the new water park.

Im in if i think the car will make it at that time, if not im bringing the SVX

Kracka 12-11-2006 05:54 PM

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

The Edgewater rooms are very pricey, you'd be looking at well over $100/night. The best overall deal I am finding right now is the Best Western in Superior. Its just across the bridge from Duluth, free breakfast, large parking lot, safe area so car security will not be a concern, ~$80/night.

The planned dates are April 14 and 15, so request time off work, military, whatever you have to do! This is over 4 months away people so any of you bitching about it being a "tight squeeze" or whatever man-up and fix your shit! LOL

I have some tentative routes planned in my head but I'll be tweaking them a bit. Plan for ~500 miles total for the weekend, there are plenty of BP stations throughout the trip (and a few stations with race gas) so don't worry about the availability of decent fuel.

Is anyone interested in booking rooms this far in advance? I may be able to get us a better rate if a few people can commit (you won't actually be charged until April).

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

if we pick a hotel 100% Jana and I will book in advance. If they have a hot tub room, we want it! Skeet SKeet!

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Sounds good to me. I'm not picky with hotel. Guess where ever most of you guys are staying. I'm not 21 til July, so anyone care to join me drinking in the hotel room while the rest go out? LOL

The Best Western up there is pretty crappy for the amount of money it is. I was up there a few years ago and was pretty unhappy with it.

It has gone under a recent renovation, but the rooms still aren't that great considering the price unless you get one of the really expensive waterpark-side rooms.

Would people be ok with the $80/night rooms in Superior? If people are ok with that and are willing to book now I can call and see what kind of group-rate we can get.

My bad, I was thinking of the Best Western in Duluth.

Im in. I would just most likely stay at my parents house. They have a pretty sweet motor home a few people could crash in with me. Its a 40' Pace Arrow thats bigger and nicer than most apartments I have had.

I know some pretty nice roads and routes up there as well since I grew there for about 20 years.

Tauni 12-12-2006 04:56 AM

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

I may drive up but then not stay there. I'll be in school then so the only time I can work is weekends. So I would ahve to go back for work.

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Sounds like a sweet idea! But once again, it's the whole "spring opener" and "fall closing" planning that makes it a slim possibility for me to make it. I will more then likely not be here.

AJ 12-12-2006 07:14 AM

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Brandon, you just need to move up to management this winter and become a desk jokey so you can come to the events more. LOL

Chris, I think you should call them up and see on the group rates, I'd say get a block of at least 10 rooms so they have something for us. Some people might stay elsewhere but i think half the fun it getting a group together for a little after hours hotel party. It's a Mitsu event, there might just be a tranny swap in the parking lot!

If I get my voice back today I'll make the call (home from work sick).

Don't worry B, we can do another cruise sometime during the summer when you can make it.

Management, HA no way man! I am avoiding going back to salary as much as possible. I was on salary for 5 years in the military, and screw that. Hourly is the shizznit!

Who knows, there's always a chance I'll be here, but that time of year is totally up in the air. I'm sure you guys will have a blast though!

Re: Spring Cruise, date/time TBD, input welcome!

Alright homies, here is the deal:

None of the hotels I called were willing to give better rates than their "internet only" pricing so it'll probably be easiest for everyone to just book online. I've settled on the Best Western Bridgeview Motor Inn in Superior, WI. Its in a good location and only about a 3 minute drive to Duluth.

This place has a pool, whirlpool, sauna, free high-speed internet, and free breakfast in the morning. Room pricing is $81 for a regular room, or $91 for a poolside room. There are of course tons of other options too like regular beds, queen beds, balcony rooms, etc. They do have Jacuzzi suites too if anyone wants to be a balla!

I recommend booking pretty soon here since all hotels up in that area fill up quick for springtime.

Feel free to search around the travel websites too for pricing, I only checked Expedia and it was the same.

Post up when you've booked a room!
