An Inconvenient Truth

Just watched this today at home. I was hesitant to watch it because I figured it was another documentary bashing the opposing parties ideas. My cousincs told me it wasn't, it's just a good documentary that really makes you think about life. So I got it and watched it, and man I really liked it.

For those of you who don't know, it's a documentary by Al Gore, and it's really not about politics at all. It's all about Global Warming. All the pictures, facts, everything he talks about, sure made me think and wonder about things. Anyone else ever seen this film? Just curious what everyone else thought about it. I liked how he tied in all the recent issues we've been having with it. Disease, hurricanes/storms, it was just very well put together. I'd say it's a good one to watch for those of you out there who like to watch this type of stuff.

Yea, I watched it when it came out in theatre and I loved it. Ju-on pretty much explained what the movie is about already so I wont go into any details about this movie except it was well worth the money for me. This would be a good movie for classes in school learning about global warming. A nice little updated movie compared to those old movies they've had for years and years. :P

I didn't watch it because it's all shit I figured I already knew and it's depressing. However I'll give it a watch tomorrow, I have respect for people that take action to save the general population of earth.

High flow cats FTW!?

I haven't seen it, but have watched other pieces on Discovery Channel about Global Warming. It's actually pretty scary. They showed just how much one person contributes, taking into consideration everthing from lights being used to the cars we drive.

I haven't seen it. I heard there was a lot of Al Gore talking about himself, which I don't care at all about. That and I'm pretty informed on environmental issues, but I imagine I'll see it at some point.

Just watched it, lots of stuff I already knew and lots of stuff I didn't know. Over all it was an excellent film and eye opening. Hopefully more ignorant Americans will watch it.

Just read this article on the subject. It's all pretty interesting to me. I have no clue who's right or wrong, but still pretty interesting I think.

Lol, I get in "moods" on here once in a while. Oh well. I shouldn't be a hypocrit - anyone who's ever driven behind my quest knows it's one of the worst polluters on the road. And it still managed 20mpg on TBI. heh.

You're fooling yourself if you think that's true. This will be the second biggest issue in the 2008 election, mark my words. This is not by chance.
Predicting a timeframe for global warming is like predicting the weather, or volcano eruptions, or earthquakes, or Tsunamis. Sure, you can make lots of fancy histograms, charts and such, but the future is not predictable. We should know that by now.

I'll probably watch this at some point to see his theories, but since I've already heard a lot of the points, and proof that they're false, it takes away a lot of the interest. :)

Did your read the second link?

I have no idea if this is true or not. Just found it to be a good and interesting documentary, that made me think about things a little bit. I personally have no knowledge of the subject, and have no idea who is right/wrong.

Proven false by whom? Let me take a shot in the dark and say Conservatives? What? I am right...get out! LOL. I agree its a very touchy subject with heavy political motives. But, there is also a great deal of truth to the matter. I am not claiming anyone is wrong or right, just saying its a good movie and well worth the watch.

NEWS FLASH: :)

POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER 'TRUTH'
Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

LOL. Nice find. Unless he is housing more than a typical family, this wont sit well. But, I am sure he will have a spin....

Probably not a spin, he's a popular guy, he probably has a lot of guests, hosts a lot of parties.

That or he's making meth in the basement. Did his recent purchases include 10 bathtubs?

Add that to his private jet flights all over the country, and the entourage of 8 or so Suburbans and Excursions folowing his Prius. It's typical Democrat stuff, do as I say, not as I do.

Can you explain how that differs from ANY other type of politics out there? You are blinded by you hatred for the Democratic party. As most far right or far left people typically are...

You can't pinpoint your stereotypes solely on the Democratic party. I think we could all make plenty of references to the Republican party, mainly our commander in chief, in terms of hypocritical/semi-manical behavior.

Not solely, but it's more funny that way and in a lot of ways it's true.

I know it goes for both parties, nothing new there. But it's always interesting when someone tells you how to live your life, but doesn't live theirs that way. This includes everyone from democrats to even some priests and pastors. The ones currently spouting off the most crap about saving our planet from certain doom right now are mostly democrats, the media and hollywood. Show me anyone in those three groups who are actually doing something about it in their personal lives, besides driving a Prius when the cameras are rolling. Flying around in private jets to attend parties all over the world isn't exactly decreasing their "carbon footprint".

I cant/wont disagree with anything you have written. Sounds like you and I are on the same page, just starting from opposite ends. I was under the impression you were discluding other parties from your perspective - which you arent.

I think its a serious issue we need to try and head-up while we can. I work for GE and we are always striving to make things more eco-friendly, so it rubs off in personal life. I have been trying to be more self-aware of things I can change. Nothing crazy, just small items. I dont doubt Mr Gore may be swelling the issue for press, but I definitely think we are/will be facing a major issue if changes are not made.
