What is it:

It's a new classifieds system that allows us to create a better for sale and wanted to buy section for our members. It gives everyone the ability to use the classifieds as needed and free's up actual forum clutter. It's a system where you are able to use a feedback feature to leave positive and negative feedback about a buyer or selling. This will give all members the ability to buy and sell with confidence with the right people.

That's the main link, it's also in the navagation bar at the top of the forums.

Are there any current issue with it:

Yes, 6 pic links aren't working cause I havn't uploaded the category image yet. This does not effect the abilities of the new system and will be updated shortly.


What will happen to the current classifieds:

They will be open for viewing till the end of Sept. As of October first they will be hidden from the forums but not removed or viewable without some sort of search. Some time after that when we clean the database up, they will be removed compleetly.

Member will not have the ability to make new posts in the current classifieds unless something happens that does not allow members to use the new system.

Again, all member should now be able to use the classifieds without moderation. However, we still reserve the FULL right to refuse and delete as needed on a case by case basis.

You may have stated this and I may have not understood it, but are the old classifieds going to be transferred to the new section?

No.

If people have active stuff, they will need to create a new ad in the new system.

Also, posting is turned off in the old system. Members will have to use PMs to seal the deal on that stuff.

Currently this is only viewable in the "Silver Skin". This will be fixed tonight.

Fixed, and viewable on the Nav bar in both skins. Would like people to start putting it to use and let me know of any bugs.

I don't have anything to sell otherwise I would test it myself; is there a way to lay out a classified ad so it doesn't turn into a cluster like this?

Yeah, the seller should make more than one ad. It's not going to get many people to sift through all that crap. If someone has 13 parts, I'd suggest 13 ads.

I will see what else I can do to make it more appealing as well, but until we can afford to buy a better version, it's going to be limited for a bit.

You should be able to click the "NEW AD" link in the category box you want to post an ad in.

Any chance on going back to the old classifieds system? These new ads don't seem to be getting anywhere near the traffic as the old thread-style.

These classified are going away shortly, for a new version. The new version will allow for some better management and should fix any traffic issues.

Give us a bit more time.

Is there any way that you can set it up so if someone is interested in another persons items for sale they can click on a link that will go directly to PM them instead of email because most people have the email feature shut off so then you have to go look for there profile and PM them from there. Unless I am missing a link or something.

Yes, you can relist items as much as you want. Traffic will also pick up when our classifieds have their own domain name. ;)

We will also have random ads showing up in the portal on the home page, various other sections of the site.

Will there be an option to put down a B/O instead of $0.00 for a price option? Also is it alright if we list up a group still instead of a bunch of different ads. Maybe it would work out if there was another section for group ads to look through and another seperate section for indavidual ads. Just a thought.

Individual ads will probably end up being the only ones accepted to keep the system clean and searchable.

There will be NO best offer only option. If you are selling it you'll have to include a price. you can always add a OBO in the description if you want.

No offense, but isn't this new system just making an old functional system more confusing and time consuming? I'm just thinking if someone is doing a part-out they'll end up making 50+ ads to list all their stuff for sale and will still only hit a small percentage of board members. A lot of times people buy stuff as an impulse buy when a FS thread pops-up or read a WTB thread and are like "oh yeah, I have that sitting in my shed" and aren't directly looking for it or trying to sell it. I also liked the on-topic discussion and Q&A that the FS/WTB threads incorporated. I am all for changes to the board in order to make it better/bigger, but I also do not feel I am in the minority regarding this issue.

Until the new one is up and tested and used in a fully functional manner I'm not even considering changing it back.

I want a system people can use to buy and sell items, provide feedback in an easy format, and be easily searchable. Having them in the forums was just leading to clutter in lots of cases. And I am not worried abotu someone having to take the extra time to place multiple "free" ads when we had to spend as much of our own time moderating the olds ads for all the meaningless banter.

This is the type of system we are going to, it will work once given a solid chance to prove itself. If it falls flat on it's ass after a long run then i will evaluate it then, but not until then.

Of course I could always go back to the old way, and slap on a $1 fee to start a new thread of any kind in the classifieds area. And have it be 100% open game ;)

No offense, but there have been a lot of proposed and implimented changes over the past 6 months, and I have yet to see a positive or worthwhile one. So I have to ask, to what end are you going through all of this trouble?

There is a lot of work ahead on several of the changed we've begun to put in place. And, as I said before, until they are all working 100% together it's all going to be a learning phase. It will take time, probably a long time, as we can't commit full time hours to a job that demands that need.

Have you looked at NABR's system? It is about as simple and easy to use as it gets.

I think the old system was one hundred times better and easier to use. This new system has totally killed the ease of buying/selling.

We have a new system already setup to replace the SR Classifieds (yes the admin teams hates the SR shit to now) so just chill.

Sweet. Glad to hear. I say switch it back to the old system with new required info or what ever.
Like a separate window for price, contact info, feedback. etc.

I'm not sure if we swapped over yet, but if we did I still don't see a PM feature. Is that going to be an option? I rarely check the email I'm registered under as I'm sure many others are the same.

The newest system has yet to be implemented, i think they are still working on a few bugs.
