Car Raffle

I was wondering if it was legal to raffle off a car that I own. If it isn't I would have the drawing next year at the cookout. Some of you may know that my car is forsale in this forum and my asking price is $12500. So if I held a raffle I would need about 2500 people to buy tickets @ $5 a pop. I think it would give alot of people a chance to win a great almost stock car for a cheap price. Just think about this $5 for $12500 Id gamble at that. LMK what you guys think or if Im just an Idiot.

Re: Car Raffle

Sounds like a sweet deal actually.
It just depends if you'll get 2500 tickets sold. $10 a piece = 1250 needed to meet your price. Plus profit if you go over 1250.

Re: Car Raffle

Id probably buy a ticket for shits and giggles. Plus you could put it on like ebay and say that you are buying one ticket for a raffle for this car and have a BIN price at $10 or $5 or whatever. Im sure a bunch of people would be interested.

Re: Car Raffle

Nothing illegal about that.

Re: Car Raffle

I didnt even think about Ebay but Id rather keep it local

I would buy one.

Re: Car Raffle

I think it would work but you may have a hard time selling all 2500 locally. You could put like 10 tickets on ebay in 1 auction and probably get more than $10 apiece.

Re: Car Raffle

Damn, I'd buy a whole grip, like 20 tickets or so! Up my luck! I think it's a cool idea if it does go through!

Re: Car Raffle

I've looked into this before actually and to hold a raffle that holds up it's specifics in the state of MN there are some guidelines you have to follow. And I think you have to file the end result and there are some fee's associated with that.

While you could always pass all this stuff up, I don't think any of the fees where that much and it woudl probably be worth it to cover your ass. If I still have some links at home I will see if I can find them

Re: Car Raffle

This sounds like a cool idea. If you plan to go the ebay route, or if you just wanted to be AWESOME, I would like to buy a few. I understnad why you would want to keep it local though.

Re: Car Raffle

I would buy a few raflles for sure, just to test my luck and. It wont hurt all that much to spend $20 on trying to win a $12k car :D.

Re: Car Raffle

I would DEFINATLY buy a couple tickets. for sure. Thats a really hard deal to pass up. hell i would fly to mn and drive it home and it would still be worth it.

Re: Car Raffle

Fuck yeah, I would buy a ticket or two.... or ten. I would say stay away from the eBay deal, I cant imagine anyone but us would bid on them anyway. I would put it out there one MNSC and all the other local forums and shit. You gotta be sure theres no foul play invovled or you could find yourself in a mess of trouble.

Re: Car Raffle

ive seen stuff like that for ferrari's and expensive cars like that, i think it counts as a lottery, i dont know the laws on that.

b00stcreep21 09-16-2006 12:04 PM

Re: Car Raffle

i couldn't imagine that being illegal at all. just get together w/ the person that wins, and transfer the title over like a normal sale......which'll be me cause i'm buyin tickets bitches!

Re: Car Raffle

I see ads like that all the time in backs of magazines, usually for charity.

Its a good way to sell a $50k car for $100k because so many people are thinking "well, its only $50 for tickets, why not"

CornFed2.4 09-16-2006 01:12 PM

Re: Car Raffle

Yeah some suggested I sell tickest for 100 dollars. Then I dont have to have the huge # of ticket sales

CornFed2.4 09-16-2006 01:16 PM

Re: Car Raffle

Then it would be alot easier to keep it local

98gstaherns 09-16-2006 04:07 PM

Re: Car Raffle

Nick You need to just give the car to me for $20.. I mean it is local and no hassle..

Thor06 09-16-2006 04:16 PM

Re: Car Raffle

I wouldnt buy a ticket at $100...

Tauni 09-16-2006 06:53 PM

Re: Car Raffle

I don't think I would ever buy a $100 raffle ticket. Simply because at $5-10, even $20, there really isn't much to lose; maybe lunch or a tank of gas. But $100 is almost a whole day of over time for me, not to mention a new out fit or 5 tanks for gas ;) much more to lose. Yes, you will end up having to deal with an ass-ton of tickets, but trust me, I highly doubt you will find a bunch of people willing to put a $100 down payment on a breakable car that they may not even win.

Your both probably right, got some people on here I have to talk to first so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the heads up though I really appreciate it.
