Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Well, I thought it was entertaining, so I figured I'd share it with you guys.
So my friend Steve has a red Jetta 1.8T that I have fun driving every once and awhile. Tonight, I think I have vowed to never drive it again... well maybe. Anyways, so we are just kind of cruising around and we head down to AV McDonalds, since its the only 24 hour one in our area. On our way back I'm cruising up Cedar, which is a 65 MPH zone, and I'm doing 90. I begin to slow down a tiny bit when Steve starts freaking out yelling "Cop! Tauni, slow down!" And I see him. No lights on, clocking me. So, naturally, I slooooow down, and get to sixty-five, throw on the seat belt, and drive like a normal person should. But, as you can guess, I get pulled over exiting onto 35E. The cop comes up, and I do my usual innocent act. He says "Do you know how fast you were going?" I say no, obviously. He tells me he clocked me at 83 mph. I pretend that I had no idea, when really, I knew damn well how fast I was going. So I give him my ID and Steve's insurance and he goes back to the car. And we sit. And we wait. I think cops just like to build the suspense some times. Anyways, so he comes back, but instead of coming to my window, he goes to Steve's. He ends up telling us there is a warrant out for Steve's arrest. Ohhh boy. So he tells us that the ticket Steve "still needed to pay" was for $242. Well Steve had just paid the ticket, and even provided a receipt showing that he had paid the ticket, but the cop took him to the cop car anyways. For whatever reason it was showing that he hadn't paid it yet, so I am assuming that it just hadn't gone all the way through the system yet. Well pretty much, money had to come out up front, other wise Steve would be going to jail, and the cop wouldn't let him pay with a check. LUCKILY, I had just cashed in on a hefty little check for selling the Talon, and still had the money sitting at my house. So the cop is like, "Alright, run to your house, and bring back $242 in exact amount. Don't speed, and call if there are any problems. Then all we will need to do is fill out some paper work, and you guys will be free to go." Sounded alright to me. So I went and grabbed the money and came back. When I got back, I was pretty confident everything was going to be ok. I give him the money and just sit and wait for about 10 more minutes. Finally, Steve comes back, and so does the cop. With my FUCKING ticket! I was so pissed. I honestly thought he was going to let me go, at least by the sounds of it and the way he was talking. So basically, I damn near send my friend to jail, bail him out, and still get a ticket on top of it all. Gotta love that AV fuzz. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Haha, owned.
|
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
83 in a 65? Ouch. Almost anywhere else (except UNI) you would have gotten off. The fact that it was in AV where all the dumb fucks go and race around at night is why you got a ticket.

Tauni, it could have been worse. The cop could have really been an A-hole and just taken your friend to jail and you'd have to go bail him out there. Oh, and wear you seat belt. ;) later, Curt |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Well that what you get for speeding! Go and talk to the hiring oiffcer and see if you can't get it droped. I got a ticket for 41 in a 30. But I talked to the hiring oiffcer and I got on this program where I pay for the ticket and I have to go a year with out getting another one and it will be droped!
|
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Yeah Tauni you should wear your seat belt. It would suck to see anything happen to anyone on this fourm.
|
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
So basically, I helped save you guys eh? Woo!
|
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Bad, bad Tauni... I've gotten a ticket for 10 over on a barren stretch of 35. 18 over in the middle of civilization is just asking for it.
Oh yeah... LEARN TO WEAR YOUR SEATBELT. |

Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
If your friend had a reciept saying he paid the ticket there no way in hell that cop could of booked him for that. Thats unlawful detainment. Ask me how I know.
I have had my fare share of Bad AV cop experiances, so I feel ya there. But hey at least you weren't tazed for no reason. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
If you think you are mature enough to drive illegally learn to take responsibility for your actions. I don't like getting speeding tickets anymore than the next person, but when I do get them I at least don't bitch b/c I knew I deserved it. 83 in a 65 is exessive and you're very likely to get a ticket no matter what city you are in; especially late at night.
About your friend having a warrant....maybe he should have payed the ticket on time. I also doubt his reciept said exactly what the payment was for so how is the cop supposed to know, he has to just go by whats in his computer system....same thing with car tabs, if you order them online you can still get a ticket if they haven't arrived in time even with the reciept printed. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Not to be completely ignorant, but what is AV?
|
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Apple Valley, southern suburb.
|
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Yup I agree with Hughes, dont really get it when people bitch about things like that. Especially the whole AV thing... no matter where you go you have a good chance of getting pulled over for going that fast.
|
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Ouch........That sucks tauni. Right after selling the car too....
|
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
That sucks, I hate the AV cops.
I was in my 2g and I got pulled over by a AV cop on cedar a couple of days ago and his justification for pulling me over was: "You took that turn too hard" LOL I was about to bust out laughing when he said that. Then he tried to do everything humanly possible to give me a ticket: tint, license plates, etc. but he didn't have anything on me so he let me go. |

It sucks, but its basically the only way to get people to stop hanging out down there. |

Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
yeah, exactly, there will always be people hanging out, they should just tell us to go to some deserted parking lot where they will leave us alone, because when the get the crowd to disperse from standing around, usually races get setup because everyone has to go on the highways.
There is some irony in the cops basically encouraging people to go race, however indirect it may be. |

I got pulled over last night in my dads truck because his tabs were expired by 2 days. The truck has sat for months and it didn't have an updated insurance card ( however it was insured), I didn't have my wallet on my because I was in work clothes because it was a "DSM weekend", KC didn't have his seatbelt on and he had been drinking. The cop called us out for everything besides the drinking and harrassed us for about 20 minutes. He finally went to his card, wrote up a warning for the tabs and sent me on my way. That's the difference between Bloomington cops and cops down here in the AV area. Bloomington cops actually have shit to do where as the further south suburbs are boring and all they do is write traffic tickets. If I got raped for it all, I would have been pissed but I should have checked on all of those things before driving it! 2 days late were the tabs ( 12th of aug. July was the expiration month). Wear your seatbelt and don't drive stupid for no reason!!! If you're gonna do something stupid, at least make it worth your time ^^ |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
They actually don't give the 10-day grace period on tabs anymore.
Cops are generally fine with people hanging out in groups if they are doing so legally, i.e. not doing burnouts, racing, etc. A few years back a large group of us would gather a few times per week at the Krispy Kreme and/or Wendy's in Maple Grove and never once were we hassled. There was another group but they were always much louder, doing burnouts, racing, etc. and they were constantly hassled and kicked out by the cops. I think the best time ever is when we were all in the Wendy's parking lot and the cops made them leave but let us stay! |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Whoa... You guys are dicks. I never said I didn't deserve the ticket, but the thing is that, he basically told me he wasn't going to give me a ticket, and then he still did, and thats totally unfair. And what makes him think I have more money to pay off a ticket. I never in that whole entire stroy said I didn't DESERVE the ticket. Anyone who speeds, does so, or at least youi would think, with the understanding that there's a good chance you will get a ticket for it. I'm not retarded, anyone who speeds deserves a ticket, and not a single one of you can honestly say you never speed. It happens, who cares. No reason to get your panties in a bunch about it. And I didn't have my seat belt on because I had just gotten my tattoo finished and I didn't want the belt to rub on it, however thats not something a cop would let slide, so thats why I put it on quick.
Not to make excuses or anything, but you would be suprised how easy it is to speed in a car like the Jetta. Unless you are constantly paying attention to the speedometer, it doesn't feel like you are going as quick as you are. But, obviously, thats not something that a cop or the hearing officer would fall for. But like in my Talon, I felt every bump, every gust of wind, so it was easier to realize how fast you were going. In the jetta, the ride is so smooth and quiet, you are doing 90 and think you're doing 70. So stop hating on me, none of you are perfect angels either. Everyone gets ticket, BFD. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Nobody here is hating on your, Tauni. I am no perfect angel and yes, I have gotten tickets (none in over 3 years though), but I also don't bitch and blame when I did. All of these problems have been brought on by you or your friend, not society, not the cops, not us. Nobody made you speed, nobody told your friend not to pay his fine on time, etc. If you can't afford to get a speeding ticket, then very simply don't put yourself in a situation where you may get one. We aren't mean, we are real; I'm sorry if this upsets you but you did post up and doing so should expect a wide variety of responses from a wide variety of different individuals who come from different background and have different opinions/beliefts/morals. These varying opinions and thoughts is one of the great things about internet forums, you get to look at a situation from so many different angles.

Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Like I said, I am not blaming anyone. I posted the story because I thought it was an ironic twist of events. How could I blame anyone. That makes no sense. And he did pay the fine. Didn't you read that much? It wasn't all the way through the system, thats why it didn't show up. It happens.
As I said before, I was pissed because the cop basically told me he wasn't going to give me a ticket since I was bailing Steve out, not that I got the ticket regardless. I figured from the start I was going to be getting a ticket, but when the cop pretty much told me I wasn't getting one, then gave me one anyways, I was a bit upset. So none of what you are saying makes a bit of sense. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
How did the cop tell you "you arent pretty much getting one?" Sounds like he wasnt very clear on that from the way you say it.
As far as the warrrant situation, seems like he didnt pay it on time and it was still going through the system. If he mailed it in I could see there being a delay, but usually if you just go in and pay, its a pretty fast process. Who knows maybe Im wrong on that one because Ive never had to go to court or pay a fine.... Thing is, he pulled you over for speeding, if Steve didnt have a warrant he might of let you go, possibly, but adding that to the equations makes a ticket for speeding alot more probable. We arent hating on you, I just dont think you should expect sympathetic replies to your post. Especially when it seems like the cop was nice enough to let you go get money so your friend didnt go to jail. And I dont really think a "jetta is quiet at high speeds" is a good excuse for thinking you werent speeding but whatever makes you feel better. :) BTW I have yet to get pulled over in my 7 years of driving ;) Im an angel. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Wah Wah, pay the ticket and be done with it. We've all been there (well except Peter apparently). I got pulled over and ticketed in AZ because of speeding. And the only reason I was speeding is because I thought I heard a noise when I accellerated. So I quick hit it again, and walla, I managed to go 10 over the limit while doing that, and got a ticket. I didn't whine, I didn't go to court and fight it, I didn't go to some class, I just payed it.
Also, I've drive through TX on a few different occasions. When I had a radar detector, the thing never stopped beeping at me. If you're thinking 15 over is no big deal here, wait until you get to Texas. I was scared to do 5 over. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Oh wow. You guys, much as I love ya, you can be pretty rediculous at times. I'M NOT WHINING. For once. Get it through your damn heads! And Brandon, the cops in Texas don't pull you over unless you are driving like a jack ass, as in weaving in and out of traffic, tailing, etc. But speeding, they pretty much over look, as long as you aren't cruising down Dallas Parkway at 100 mph. You forget thats where I learned to drive.
And what the cop said was "All you need to do is run and grab the money to pay off Steve's ticket and I will let you both go." You guys are rediculous if you HONESTLY believe I'm whining. I thought it was a funny twist of events and thought I would share it. Anyone who gets a ticket for speeding should know what was coming to them. I'm not fucking retarded. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Stop your whining you whiner. ;)

Come on Tauni, your just mad because batting your eyelashes and being cute didn't get you off the hook this time. If you were not with that guy you would have probably off by crying or acting like you didn't know what the hell was going on. http://www.tcstangs.com/forum/images/smilies/nod.gif
And as far as your friend goes, he is full of shit if he said he paid the ticket. Unless he mailed it and it was in the process of getting there then it would have not shown up. As soon as payment is received for a fine it is taken out of the system automatically. There is no time period where it has to makes its way through the system, when its paid its done. Trust me I have paid my fair share of fines in my day. |

ouch, what for? Actually I lied, i was pulled over for DUI screening once. And I was pulled over for loud exhaust. Police are just doing their job, If they do something unfair or not within their legal power, then you take it to the judge and you get it taken care of.

Haha, Brandon may be right, he was Asian ;) He claimed they got a call-in saying I was driving at excessive speeds weaving in and out of traffic which I was not; I had the same Jeep behind me and Civic in front of me ever since I left work. |
Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
wow, I didnt know that even works. So next time I see some asshat on the road, i call the cops and they come tag the person? interesting.

Re: Fun with Jetta's.... and Cops.........
Hah, you guys must have a big beacon on your roof or something. I just got back from running through the GV McD's drive-thru and back in my GSX with nothing for exhaust but an 02 housing. Couple that with a leaking Mustang TB, twin disk clutch chatter and two Whinebros, makes for one loud-ass car. No problems with GV's finest whatsoever. :p
