what to do in minneapolis

Anybody got any suggestions about good entertainment in minneapolis (besides bars, and strip clubs).

You eliminated the best things to do! I suppose there is always the tourist trap Mall of America.

Out to dinner someplace downtown... perhaps mannys and then go hit a movie or go walk around lake calhoun. They like that romantic stuff I guess.

http://www.bravenewworkshop.com/ I took my GF to it once and she loved it, its sooo funny, I wouldn't recommend going if you don't like to laugh. But for real, take the little lady its seriously the best live performance I've ever seen, definitely a show to bring a date to.

Wow that place does look sweet. Thanks! Anybody know of any killer resturants? I'll probably just end up going somewhere close to the theater. ($25 for two tickets kicks butt too! talk about a nice cheap date haha)

umm.. I like this asian restaurant called Village Wok. I forgot exactly where it is though. Probably the best decent priced asian restaurant I've been to.

They serve a good variety of excellent seafood. And many other stuff too if you dont like seafood.

One dish will probably run you about 15 bucks. Its not bad.

I give that restaurant a TWO THUMBS UP.

Figlio's in Uptown is a really good restaurant, great atmosphere, good prices, and VERY good food. Its just a few blocks away from Lake Calhoun so you could have yourself a nice romantic walk before/after dinner.

I used to love Copeland's downtown, but for some reason it and TGI Friday's closed down. Anyone know the scoop on that? All the furniture and stuff is still in there and it had a remodelling sign up for a bit, but that was a few months ago.

That Independance place I went to with Chris and a few others one night seemed nice. Not so much a club, more like a nice place to eat and just kinda lounge around at.

Also I think a couple good date places are Bella in Blaine, or Epic in Eden Prarie (i think). They are just very classy, very nice restaurants. And you can just kind of lounge around there afterwards, and they have music playing, fires burning, just real nice for like a date.

Village Wok = cheap but good!

Now, if you want to impress said lady friend, take her to Martini Blu in the Grand Hotel on 2nd ave S between 6th st & 7th st. Sit at the sushi bar & ask the chef to make you whatever he wants.

Re: what to do in minneapolis

Places ive been downtown for special occasions:

Tiburon- Caribean restaurant near the U of M Law School. Good seafood/steak, giant aquarium.

Firelake Grill House- In the radison downtown. Good midwestern food with reasonable prices.

Atlas Grille- Awesome food, upscale place.

McCormick & Schmick's- Upscale, huge seafood menu, go here if you like seafood.

Mannys- no need to really say, best steak ever. Very expensive.

Then theres cheaper more casual places like:

Rock Bottom Brewery, or Stacatto- cozy place with good prices.

Dying business due to the "thug" life around Block E during the weekends. Sales dropped in key areas and rent for downtown space keeps going up. Expect Chevys and a few others to follow by next year.

There are the riverboats in St. Paul where you eat dinner and cruise up the Mississippi for a couple hours. Good date and 40 bucks a person.

Ride bikes somewhere.

HiImBrian 07-24-2006 11:00 PM

Re: what to do in minneapolis

where can i get more info about that riverboat thing?

I know the original poster asked for entertainment besides bars but I thought I would still share this:

http://www.mplshappyhour.com/nl26.php

The site gives a complete list of happy hours (drinks and food) in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

I'll keep that in mind when I hit 21 (or get a fake haha)

Re: what to do in minneapolis

You can find info here: http://www.riverrides.com/

I went with my family, but it'd be a good date too, they had two guys singing and playing banjo like you'd expect on a riverboat. ;p

Anyway, we were on the Anson Northrup, one of 5 boats they have. It launches from the Port of St. Paul.

You could go kayaking (is that how you spell it?), or paddle boating on lake calhoun. Its like 10-15 bucks an hour i think. Great way to spend time with the lady while looking at the other ladies =) But seriously, it's pretty cool.

Last night I had dinner at a place called The News Room/Story/Place or something to that effect not too far from the Marriott City Center. I just had a cajun shrimp appetizer but it was delicious. Their beer selection is huge as well, I would guess upwards of 100 different flavors in bottles alone.

Wow these are all good suggestions; I'll have to ask you guys when I stop being creative!
