sleepydsm 10-12-2004 12:23 AM

Hey what kind of SS exhaust manifold do you have? Is it custom?

JET 10-12-2004 12:36 AM

That is a new brand out. You can see their stuff at www.soontobecrackedandfallingapart.com

Ask Chris Carey about that!

Super Bleeder!! 10-12-2004 01:46 AM

ohhhsss nooss, don't tell me you bought an SSautochrome thing too???

CraigKrage 10-12-2004 08:18 AM

Yeah it's a big hunk of Poopie......I will be hacking it all up,rewelding it and sending it off to be jet hot coated..Kinda came with the set up..Long story but I'm kinda stuck with it for now....I hope the reworking of it will hold up :)

JET 10-12-2004 03:11 PM

Well, if you want it done right, look me up. I am in the process of making a kiln to stress relieve exhaust manifolds and O2 housings. This is key to making one live without cracking. The stress left in the welds is a big part of what causes the cracking.

Enes 10-12-2004 03:33 PM

i've had mike welded 02 housing without a single issue, fit perfict.. no cracking and this is after about 7 months so i don't think it will crack...

JET 10-12-2004 09:20 PM

The temperature difference between the O2 housing and exhaust manifold are drastically different. I have had the exhaust manifold glowing bright orange before and the O2 housing was barely glowing. Also, it has to support the weight of the turbo, which at those temperatures is not easy.

i would say don't even do that. the metal that those manis are made of is soooo thin, just cut your losses and get soemthing else like an SFP mani

CraigKrage 10-13-2004 11:22 AM

I dont have the kinda coin to start all over with a new manifold and i cant exactly put the stocker back on......My guy Chad @ FC Customs is an excellant welder and was actually doing some work on these manifolds...Because of the thickness are you thinking there will be future problems or are your concerns more with the welding?

JET 10-13-2004 12:25 PM

The cracks on something like this don't usually happen right in the weld, usually it is just next to the weld. That is why thin metal is bad for this application. There are some tricks to getting better welds though that will not crack as easily.

Super Bleeder!! 10-13-2004 04:10 PM

hey, when you say it came with the setup.....do you mean you bought one of those deals off of ebay from SSautochrome where they sell you a turbo/mani/ fake tial wastegate?

CraigKrage 10-13-2004 06:50 PM

no I bought a brand new T3/T4 Turbo ,Manifold and Wastegate off of a business in Central IL.
I talked to my guy and he has no problems welding on these manifolds.
