Powder results
3 Attachment(s)
Just thought I'd share a couple pictures of some powder coating I did earlier. What do you guys think?
First 2 are my upper IC pipe in Smoke Chrome Last is a wrench I had laying around in Wrinkle Black. PS - Yes, I know that bov flange weld is the bomb diggity!! |
Re: Powder results
You did this on your own? What type of equipment do you have?
|
Re: Powder results
Yup I did this myself. I did it with my homemade setup a friend and I have been working on that is absolutely TOP SECRET because it's that good
|
Re: Powder results
Not bad, though the colors don't show off the medium very well. I've been thinking about a DIY powder coating seyup. I'd love to get any insight you have to share about what works, what doesn't, etc...

Looking good buddy!

Re: Powder results
Way to go mang!! well worth the effort you put in setting it up. I will take an intake, I/C pipes, and valve cover for now.
|
Re: Powder results

Sorry that was inappropriate. I'm drunk. I agree those welds are not asthetically pleasing, but they hold. My other welds are a bit better, Those turned out bad cuz they were difficult because it was hard to get in there. Either way, go to my other thread to discuss my welds, this one is about my coating job, and I'm proud!
Here were some of my other welds that I think turned out better. The BOV flange ones were difficult for me. But were done over a year ago, and are still holding strong on a 30psi pressure test. |
Re: Powder results

Re: Powder results
Damn, that valve cover looks really good. Might have to twist your arm a little and have you do mine sometime.
|
Re: Powder results
Thanks!
|
Re: Powder results
so whats your secret for this..i would like to try some of my own
|
Re: Powder results
There is no secret. Just do the research like me and my buddy did. We just slowly researched, and slowly aquired parts here and there for about 4 months. Call me an ass, but I'm just not willing to go and tell you everything. I think you should research, as we did.
But I love how the powder hides my shitty welds though. |
Re: Powder results
That valve cover looked good tonight, nice work! Hit the letters with some sandpaper, cover it all in a clear gloss, and you sir will have some professional looking products!
|
Re: Powder results
haha alright..ill try and do some research about it and see what i come up with..but sorry about the crap with the welds...i was just giving you shit

Re: Powder results
Hey I have an extra Valve cover.... PM me the price you coat it for me. The funny thing is I live in Cleveland. And I like it in Teal or an off blue.
|
Re: Powder results
I'd take a black one. The red on mine is coming off, and I can't really say I like it anymore.

Re: Powder results
Maybe once I get better, I can talk with Allan about putting this up in the members offered services. But right now I'm not trying to like take a bunch of orders from people. I'm still learning you know. I'd like to get a little better. But if you're looking for a black valve cover, I already did the one that i put a pic up of if you're wanting one. I'm probably going to do another one in that orange color for my car, so I won't need that one anymore.
|
Re: Powder results
how much for the black one then?

Re: Powder results
Just give me a shout when you feel ready to do orders. I changed my mind on that blue. I think Wrinkle blue or something like that. Eh...like I said take your time man.

Picture of another valve cover I just did. I did it in Marblehead Silver at first. It had sort of a cement type texture to it. Kinda cool, but I wanted to play some more. So here is the end result. The letters are still the marblehead silver, but the rest is Wrinkle Black.
This will also be my test cover. It was cracked right in the corner by the oil cap where these things always crack. I have a metal puddy specifically made for repairing Aluminum, and is commonly used by powdercoaters because it holds powder very well, and supposidely can be polished to a shine as well. So anyway I guess I'll see how it holds. |
Re: Powder results
That is really cool. Are there any shifting colors you can do? Like a red into blue or some such?
|
Re: Powder results
That looks awesome brandon! I think thats my favorite finish so far.
|
Re: Powder results
Thanks. I just put it on the car, and it looks awesome!
|
Re: Powder results
Damn when you thinking of taking orders? Anytime soon i hope? I think i would want my valve cover lihe the second one. Or the color of the letters
