Proud New Owner...

I am the proud new owner of one of these things...
http://www.extremepsi.com/store/cust...cat=944&page=1

I got a heck of a deal and It should be on its way tomorrow!
Quick question tho. Can I just plug this thing in and run with it(assuming I have all the sensors that I need and stuff)? Or does it need to be tuned when I put it in.
Mike

Re: Proud New Owner...

great choice..

you will need someone to make you a basemap. it is a plug in type of unit, but ya gotta load on it a basemap to just run your car, with the specific mods you have. What sensors did you get? AIT, and map sensor?

Re: Proud New Owner...

I just ordered it I didnt get any sensors yet. Any one I should go with. Its just gonna be chilling at my house for awhile till I get all the stuff I need.

Re: Proud New Owner...

well, I'd get the air intake temp sensor, and the 5 bar map sensor. I know, you could go 3.5 bar map sensor, but last i checked..they costed the same. If you plan on running higher psi, get the 5 bar. Other then that, i'd say you are good to go.

Nice can you buy me one to?

Yea, you should just let that chill in my eclipse until you need it/I will let you have it back! :)

Seriously man, nice work, and oh yea, screw you! ;)

Re: Proud New Owner...

Go with the 3.5 bar unless you plan on exceeding 35psi. The resolution is nice on the 3.5, the 5 bar is a great option, and for the same price, it is a great deal.
I would also suggest a IAT sensor as well for just the minimum's. Do you have a wideband?

blageo23 05-16-2006 12:41 AM

Re: Proud New Owner...

This is what my plans are...
3.5 bar MAP
IAT sensor
AEM wideband
Mistu 20G
Tial WG
650CC injectors
Already have the 20G and the 650s. Just looking at that list...OOO man! I need a new job! haha

650's going to be enough?

650's are fine for a 20G.

I'm not too familiar with the AEM and speed density setups; are there limitations or issues with the 3.5 bar MAP beyond 35psi? I'm just curious as 3.5 bar = 50.8psi.

JET 05-16-2006 09:31 AM

Re: Proud New Owner...

Jakey, 1 bar is 14.7psi. 1 bar is the pressure at sea level, so you have 2.5 bar of boost. The AEM sensor goes to 35.97 psi of boost, I believe.

You might want to rethink the AEM WB02 purchase, there are better units out there for less money.

Re: Proud New Owner...

What would you suggest? I only know of the AEM and the PLX.

Gotcha, I was thinking absolute pressure.

I have a PLX-300, sweet display, LV output and straight very forward, about $300 or so?

Re: Proud New Owner...

The cheapest one I can find on ebay even in the AEM UEGO 6-in-1.

Re: Proud New Owner...

Man, I had my used one for sale...

The resolution isn't really any different between the 3.5 bar and the 5 bar. Both are laboratory grade sensors. You can scale the 5 bar to whatever you want in the AEM itself and because of the precision of the sensors, the resolution loss in voltage is insignificant from the 3.5 bar to the 5 bar.

The newer AEM gauge type wideband is out, it now reads down to 10:1 AF. The older ones only read down to 11:1 AF, which isn't quite rich enough for a lot of turbo cars. We sell them for $279.99.

Where do I buy the sensors? and about how much do they cost?

How about any place that sells GM parts?

And get a PLX wideband 02. Goes to 10:1

Re: Proud New Owner...

how about you read the posts above the AEM one does too.

Re: Proud New Owner...

i bought a zeitronix wb02. i really like the simulated narrowband output, and the display is really easy to read and has a huge range.

Shane@DBPerformance 05-17-2006 11:30 AM

Re: Proud New Owner...

The Zeitronix looks nice and they have versions that can display other sensors. I am always a little warry of the TechEdge and PLX setups. I have seen too many of them that seemed to be reading way off.

Re: Proud New Owner...

What is your opinion of the AEM Wideband(from a tuners view)? Also do you know where I can Pick up the sensors I need and what to ask for when I get them. The AEM sensors are WAY to expensive for me.

Re: Proud New Owner...

Nice! ExtremePSI is awesome to work with. I got just about all my stuff thru Hung there.

BTW- I have the PLX m-250 that i got from Extreme for $246. This is all you need. Works great with Dsmlink and will be great for your AEM.

niterydr 05-17-2006 12:52 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

I've always been a fan of the innovative widebands (I have one in my car) and the AEM widebands (we sell these as well).

Both are great sensors and work well. Do you plan on using the automapping features with the ems?

blageo23 05-17-2006 12:55 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

I have no Idea. I dont know really anything about the EMS. Also It wont be in my car for awhile anyways.

Onefast99gsx 05-17-2006 05:20 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

Talk to Steve (GoatBlower). He runs an AEM. I'm sure he could give you advice.

blageo23 05-17-2006 07:49 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

I just went to the AEM website and checked out the forums for sensor info and this is what im gonna order...
GM boost control solenoid
Part #1997152
Pigtail for solenoid
Part #12102747

IAT Sensor
Threaded
Part #25036751
Unthreaded(plastic)
Part #12160244
Pigtail
Part #12102620

3 Bar MAP sensor
Part #12223861
Pigtail
Part #15305891

Now there are 2 different IAT sensors threaded and unthreaded(plastic). Which one would be better? Total cost about $150 from GMpartsdirect.com. Not too too bad.

Re: Proud New Owner...

I was also looking on SBR and they sell an AEM coolant temp sensor. Is that needed?

sleepydsm 05-17-2006 09:50 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

I'd assume you'd want a threaded IAT, so it wouldnt blow out under boost?

Super Bleeder!! 05-17-2006 10:46 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

do not EVER buy from SBR, you will save yourself a headache.

blageo23 05-17-2006 10:48 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

Yah Ive heard all the storys but I have gone through them a few times with no big problems

slowbubblecar 05-17-2006 10:49 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

I would think the AEM would be over kill for a 20g setup, but I suppose you will get a better tune with it. I would have just got dsmlink. Cars are in the 9's with it. I would go with the innovat wideband. They are around $200 shipped on ebay unless you would want a guage display or something.

blageo23 05-17-2006 10:54 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

Im not gonna stop with a 20G. And Ive been through it. DSMLink is what $700-$800 with ecu and for a couple hundred more I can have a full stand alone.

Super Bleeder!! 05-17-2006 10:59 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

a full standalone that is probably far above your head, honestly.

dsmlink for the masses. aem for people who really know what they are doing.

blageo23 05-17-2006 11:08 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

Noone was talking about self tuning this thing. Plus who says I couldnt research and figure it out by myself.

slowbubblecar 05-17-2006 11:21 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

I went the dsmlink route because I thought the AEM would be way over my head and because it works well. People sell the whole dsmlink setup (secketed ecu, software and cable) for $700. That is less than half of the cost of just buying the AEM alone and probably equals about a third after you buy all the sensors and stuff.

blageo23 05-17-2006 11:35 PM

Re: Proud New Owner...

I got a hell of a deal on the AEM thats why I bought it. With buying the sensors it will still be well under retail price.
