It's tax day

Just wondering how many of you waited until the last minute to file your taxes (Like I did :o ).

I would have mailed them sooner, but since I owed $95 I didn't really have much of an incentive to. I would have gotten a whopping $9 back from the state, but I decided to donate it to the non-game wildlife fund instead.

There where several people at work who owed money and thus waited till lunch today to mail them out. A group of 6 or 7 all took a van to the local post office.

Yeah, I had to walk the new lady over to the Post Office so she could mail her's out (she also owed). The line was quite long, but moved pretty fast. I'd wait until the last day too, if I owed the IRS money. They don't need it any sooner...

Yeah, I am a procrastinator and haven't done mine yet. That is tonights project! I have started on them, but this business thing makes it much more difficult. I was used to spending 30 min on the 1040EZ :D

Jana, you worry too much! Do you think they actually look at the dates of all the envelopes that come in? As long as you get them sent by Wed, you will be alright.

My dad owed 2 years ago, mailed in on the last day, but it wasn't postmarked until the next day. Yeah he got a penalty for filing late. They do check, probably can't check them all, but they do enough, the IRS is fucking greedy!

I got my mine done in feb and I still haven't got any of my returns..

Re: It's tax day

I haven't had to pay in and have never had an issue. That is probably because I don't owe them money though. I may do an extension this time though. I don't know if I can get them done tonight or not, and that is the longest I would push it.

I had mine done by the last week in January and got my return deposited into my account the friday before the Superbowl... Consider it spent.

I did mine last night, and it said to print and send in a signed form cause I didnt have my tax info from last year to electronically sign. I can't find it anymore, but I dunno.. i think it processed?

Re: It's tax day

I did mine on turbo tax about 2 months ago but just sent them today. I see no problem with waiting until the last minute to send.... if you owe, but I like to know earlier how much it's gonna cost me. I only owed 170 (total)... so it wasn't too bad.

I did mine right away and do that every year. Its too much of a clusterfuck waiting until the last minute.

Nah I was waiting for my new check book to come in ( I havent used checks in months, since my other pack ran out) and I was expecting them here by today, so now that they aren't here I have to deposit my money into my dads acct tomorrow and have him write the checks.

I owed 750 - I have 2 dsms.. I don't have cash like that just laying around to give the IRS! I had to find ways to get extra money. So no, not an idiot.. just poor. I wasn't expecting to have to pay in 750. I have until midnight tonight. ZZZ so Good fight!

Re: It's tax day

You do know that filing an extension is only an extension on "filing". If you owe money, and don't file the proper paperwork for a payment plan, you will be hit with penalties as well. So while leaving them go is fine, just make sure you don't owe money. I'm sure if you are getting a refund they could care less (why would they... they get the interest on your money!).

I can understand it's hard to come up with that much money to pay in, but why wouldn't you make sure you are claiming the right about to begin with?

That's all I'll say, and now I'll shut up. ;)

No it didnt process. That is the point of needing your adjusted gross income from last year, to be able to let it process.

You basically just used the comp to figure out your taxes for you and still have to mail it in. There is a phone number you can call though to get your info from last year.

Actually, yes it did process. He just needs to mail his signature in for it to become official. He should have to mail nothing in but a signature form.

Re: It's tax day

If you don't owe them money, then it doesn't really matter. You have 3 years to get a refund from the normal due date to try to get your money back.

Which would still need to be done by today?

I guess I misunderstood the little window that popped up while doing mine. I didnt have my forms from last year so I had to save it and come back when I found that. It also said that if I couldnt find last years numbers I could print out my progress and send it in? Maybe they were just refering to the signature sheet?

jana are you an tax person or something... You seem to know your stuff.
I'm excited because my dad is a CPA so no more long days for him (and no more of him waking me up at 5:45 with the garage).
I was talking to him yesterday about being late. He said if you didn't owe it really didn't matter because it is a % of what you owe which they charge so if you are getting money back it will be nothing. Also for everyone that is late try running it through a post meter that you could back date, I don't know if it will work but it may.

Now off to spend my 300 or so...

It's ok. I don't owe anything. And it's not even a big enough of a return for it to matter. Meh. I did it cause I actually had 10 minutes to spare but no printer.

I went in to see my CPA last week, I’m getting almost $4000 back. I was way to lazy on getting taxes done, oh well.

I claim ONE. I planned to move out this year, but since I didn't my parents decided they were going to claim me. It's better to pay in because then the governement doesn't make more money off you with interest and you dont have to pay the penalty for state because you got a refund from the feds. You just have to be a little better planned out than I was. I totally forgot I was going to pay in!

They don't penalize you if you don't owe right?

They are done. Enveloped and everything. I needed my dad to tell me what goes where and I didn't have time to meet up with him until today, and after all the other running around I was doing I lost track of time and didn't get to the post office on time. So I was going to just buy the stamps from the machine but I was confused and didn't know what ones I was supposed to get. So I was like "uhh fuck this" and went to the UPS store, but that was CLOSED to. So I have to wait until tomorrow. Thats why I ask.
