Time for a new car?
Now that summer is getting here and gas prices are outrageous, I think it's time for me to get rid of the truck and buy a car. I'm looking to get some ideas from everyone on what I should get. I'm open to just about anything, except a DSM, unless it's a very good deal. Something 97 or newer, price range of about 22-23k is as high as I'm willing to go. Give me some ideas people!

Re: Time for a new car?
I'm in the same boat too! 22-23k huh..I think you cloud get a nice Evo for that.
Edit: Is that better. |

Re: Time for a new car?
Are you looking for good gas mileage, or just a fun car? or both?
|
Re: Time for a new car?
Something to go fast or just something nice? 2dr or 4dr preferance?>
|
Re: Time for a new car?
Evo, Srt4, StealthTT/Vr-4?
|
Re: Time for a new car?
If you want my honest suggestion, buy a car like Jana's as a daily for the summer. VERY reliable, great gas milage, comfy, ect ect. And it won't hurt the pocket book either. This will allow you to keep saving for a house or a nicer spring/summer/fall fun car while having a reliable daily and winter car. We will never get rid of Jana's Prizim till it's dead in the water. Now that it's also paid off, it's SOOO nice. Cheap insurance as well.
A '00 - '02 Prizim with anywhere from 28k to 68k miles go for 5k to 8k on car soup. |

I'm looking for something fun. Gasmileage isn't a big issue since whatever I get should get better gasmileage then my truck. Quote:

Re: Time for a new car?
That same site has a nice EVO for 23k ;)
|
Re: Time for a new car?
Are you looking for luxury, performance, summer car only, or a comfortable daily driver?
Theres... Mitsu-Evos, 3S, BMWs- 330CI or M3, Audi- A4, S4, Nissan- 350Z, Cobra Mustang, S2000, GTO, Mini Cooper S ;) Just to name a few... |

Oh yeah, GET YOUR MINI!
|
Re: Time for a new car?
As of right now the cars I have been thinking about are
TT 6 SPEED Miata Cooper S 350Z G35 M3 EVO 3S Cobra GTO |
Re: Time for a new car?
Get an Audi TT. atpturbo.com gt2871 bolt on kit if you want some more kick-in-the-pants, otherwise you're good to go. Don't buy a miata, we will all for sure laugh at you. ;)
Otherwise, for something a bit bigger, I vote for a B5 S4 or Evo8. |
Re: Time for a new car?
Seen a couple quick newer GTO's this past year....
I'll be looking for a nice clean used Evo this next year myself. |
Re: Time for a new car?
I went and looked at this car today, http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail.a...4&DetailMode=1
|
Re: Time for a new car?
Not bad, but out of the cars you listed a TT would be at the bottom for me, it just doesnt work well as a "sports car." They are nice though, the 1.8T is a big slow though, look at the V6, unless your planning on modding the 1.8, then its a better choice.
Go look at this: http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail.a...DealerGroupID= |

There are a lot of nice cars out there now. I am not a fan of the audi/vw's though. The R32 is pretty cool, but not as fast as an Evo. |
Re: Time for a new car?
No one has mentioned IS300?
|
Re: Time for a new car?
I love how the miata I test drove handled. They sound like tin cans and the FMIC is ridiculous looking, but other than that it's a damn fine car.
|
Re: Time for a new car?
find a speed 6.
i've never seen a real world review of one yet. |

You have a lot of options for your price range, im sure you could even go with a S2K i would think. |
Re: Time for a new car?
Evo or 03-04 Cobra...
Audi/VWs are cars to avoid more than DSMs. |
Re: Time for a new car?
I've got a 99 Miata I've been driving around. It's a lot of fun and would be a real kick with some turbo power. Why buy a turbo one for big bucks when you're going to replace all that stuff anyways. I'm real impressed with the ride and handling, it feels like a real sports car should. Mine's even got some pimp rims. :D

Re: Time for a new car?
miata is a fine idea i think. stock na block can handle 400whp, and at that point you are probably looking at low 11s high 10s with a fun tossable car.
my dad just bought a miata, 99 6spd w/limited slip and 17k miles. |
Re: Time for a new car?
I heard the miata is a great drivers car.
You should check out the RSX-S you might like it? -Colin |
Re: Time for a new car?
Dont know if you like Toyotas or not but check out the Avalon... They are sweet cars. So comfortable and has some balls too. My buddys parents have one and the car is very nice. Good gas milage too. You can get a brand new 05 for 23k with warrenty and everything, fully loaded.
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/n....cfm/id/38244/ I just figured I'd be different and suggest something totally different then what everyone else has been saying. But if you really want, get a Evo or something similar. |
Re: Time for a new car?
3s :).
|
Re: Time for a new car?
For your own good, stay away from the european cars. Pick up the current(I think.. I just got it from the store last week) Consumer reports. It's the yearly auto issue. That'll give you a good idea of what is reliable and was isn't. That will cut down your choices some.

Re: Time for a new car?
^^Stating that all euro cars are crap is a pretty big statement isnt it? I really disagree... The only non euro car I or my family have ever owned was my eclipse and that was the most unreliable car we have yet to come across. Germans know what they are doing, they dont build tin cans ;)
It all depends on how you take care of the car.... |
Re: Time for a new car?
2006 Kia Rio
110-horsepower, four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing. Torque is rated at 107 lb.-ft. MPG, City: 29 – 32 Highway: 35 – 38 . MSRP, $10,770 – $12,645 |

Supra!

Re: Time for a new car?
I would get either the G35 or the M3. They are both comfortable, fast, and look great. You don't have to sacrafice much with those cars. Some of the other cars listed are too one dimensional. I vote against an EVO for you because it would end up having 600+ hp and would go from being reliable to a race car really quick. A G35 would be perfect in my opinion.
|
Re: Time for a new car?
I vote G35, GTO, 03-04 Cobra. All can get pretty good milage depending on how they are driven and all are obviously fun and sporty with room for improvements should you decide to in the future.

Re: Time for a new car?
After having that Volvo S40 as a rental car, I want one so bad. It's probably not in the bag for me right now, but someday it'd be nice. The 2005 and up models, and interior is gorgeous! The one we had over there was a 6-speed turbo diesel, but I think the ones in the states are turbo 5cylinders, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'd say it's worth taking a look at. You gotta sit in one to enjoy it I think, one of the nicer interiors I've seen.

Re: Time for a new car?
A G35 is what I would like to get but I can't find one I like in my price range.
