I was thinking about having a poker tournament over at our place on friday. I was thinking about having it a $20 buy in for each person with the one holding either the most (or all) of the chips at the end of the night winning the whole pot. Basically when you buy in, we split up the chips equally and play.

Now we could either have a time limit or just play until everyone is ready to quit. Or we could just play until someone won all the chips. I vote for the last one.

I would like to hear some feedback about this. If we are all in agreement by tuesday nite, then we will hold the tournament here. BTW, I live in Burnsville. I'd say we start about 7pm and go from there. If there is someone that can't make it until 8pm, let us know and we will schedule it for 8pm. Let's get this nailed down by tuesday nite so we can have an official thread that we can put in the general events. Unless the mods want to go ahead and relocate this one to the events section. I will post up directions when we find out who is all coming.

----Edit----- It should be Friday Jan. 16th in the title line.....

I think we would, but I'm too broke to front $20

MATCHBX 01-10-2004 11:17 PM

Anybody is more than welcome to come out and hang out as well. We don't have a huge amount of space but we should have enough room for 10 to 15 people. While we are playing cards, others can watch TV, DVD's or play playstation games. We have a PS2 with GT3, GTA Vice City, GTA3, WRC, Hitman 2, and NFS underground.

I might even be able to front you the $20 if it comes down to it. Then we could split the winnings if you win.

AJ 01-10-2004 11:59 PM

I think is we sell the suspension by then we coudl do that. And if it's no limit hold'em we need to make sure the rules are correct and we do a small & big blind. And go till 1 has all the chips!

No pros, so Nash you can't play.. lol j/k

SuperSleeper 01-11-2004 12:53 AM

If I'm in town, you can count me in. I have that weekend off from work. That can only be good news for the rest of you, considering how I ended up last time. :razz2:

LightningGSX 01-11-2004 12:55 AM

I'm in if a decent amount of people play, and tourney rules apply(blinds double at regular intervals).

MATCHBX 01-11-2004 02:43 AM

That part is fine with me. I just wanted a set buy in price for everyone so that everybody starts at the same point. I feel the same way about going until one person has all the chips. Hell we might not finish until 5 or 6 am but that's the fun part.

If anyone needs to crash here that night they can. We don't have alot of space but there is a reclineer, a couch and a bit of floorspace. But I imagine most will end up going home anyways.

BTW, We will have bbq smokies in the crockpot and a few other things to eat. We should have a few 12 packs of pop but if you guys want to bring other things with you to drink and eat, that's fine with us. We could always order pizza as well.

Allan, if you guys come could you bring your set of chips? If we get quite a few players, we will need extras. That way it will make it interesting.

Also if anyone has any extra chairs (like those ones that fold up into the bags), try to bring them.

And as a side note, we do have a few birds, so keep that in mind if you are allergic. They will be in their cages though, so don't worry about them flying around.

Nash 01-11-2004 05:14 AM

You know I'm in!

Jana 01-11-2004 02:13 PM

I will be there at least to keep Terrina company :D

JET 01-11-2004 02:30 PM

Damn, I would be in, but that is the night of our company Xmas party. I have a little hottie going with me, so I can't back down :idhitit:

Nash 01-11-2004 02:34 PM

I was going to go out and get some chips some time soon, so I can bring them with.

Iwantboost 01-11-2004 05:28 PM

are young'ns aloud to come and just hang out and meet all of you?

MATCHBX 01-11-2004 05:51 PM

I don't have a problem with that as long as you aren't drinking. I am not taking responsibility for a contributing to the delinquency of a minor ticket. Other than that, anyone is welcome.

Iwantboost 01-11-2004 05:52 PM

 drinkin aint for me, this is :smoker:

MATCHBX 01-11-2004 05:53 PM

There will be none of that as well.

As far as regular cigarettes, people will have to smoke outside. We have a balcony right off of the kithcen where we will be playing so don't worry about having to go downstairs and do it. There are 2 reasons why we don't allow smoking in the house. One, it stinks up furniture. Two, we have birds and they don't do well with the smoke. My fiancee smokes but has never smoked in the house so it's not just company that is not allowed to smoke in the house.

Iwantboost 01-11-2004 05:54 PM

i was jk, bad joke sorry

MATCHBX 01-11-2004 05:58 PM

Not a prob. We all have senses of humor around here (well most). We'll have the playstation up and going along with DVD's and such. If I get the power cord, I may setup the old atari as well.

Blk96Eclipse 01-11-2004 07:13 PM

I'll probabaly come if I get directions. I've never met you guys before cept I saw you guys at Elite before.

MATCHBX 01-11-2004 07:51 PM

Well it looks like we have quite a few people that want to do this. I'll post it up in the general events with directions. Whoever will be coming, please post in there just once so we know about how many to expect. We will keep this thread going here for discussionary purposes.

Thanks guys!!!

fusion 01-11-2004 09:58 PM

I'll more than likely make it. I love watching the World Poker Tour on cable.

DSM97RS 01-12-2004 04:28 PM

I actually may be able to meet some of you guys for a change. I met Dane at the 2003 Cookout but noone other than that. Ill probably be able to make it, but not positive yet.

MATCHBX 01-12-2004 06:52 PM

The idea has been brought forth to split up the pot if we have enough players. What would you guys think. Should it be split 80/20 with the last two players? Or maybe 70/20/10 between the last three? Or 65/25/10? Or just leave it the way it is.

Also, what should the linit for that be? 5 people? 6 people? so forth.....

Looking for input. This is, after all, a democracy.

fusion 01-12-2004 09:16 PM

I like the 80/20 split.

LightningGSX 01-12-2004 09:31 PM

Me and my friends play tourneys twice a week, we usually play 3rd get their buy-in back, 2nd get double their buy-in back, and 1st takes the rest.Just a suggestion but it works out pretty good.

AJ 01-12-2004 09:35 PM

More than 18 people split. Otherwise winner take all.

I agree with Allan. If we can get alot of people then do a 70/20/10 split, if not winner should take all.

MATCHBX 01-12-2004 11:41 PM

That's kinda where i was leaning. How about we say if we get more than 8 people we will split the pot 70/20/10. Otherwise it's winner take all. Does that sound good?

Nash 01-12-2004 11:47 PM

You are the one hosting so I will just leave it up to you.

AJ 01-12-2004 11:50 PM

If' it's just 8 people it's pointless to split. The're nothing to really win. If we get like 18 people then a split woudl be cool.

MATCHBX 01-13-2004 12:34 AM

That's why I said more than 8. That's $180 split 126/36/18. So the third place person would be getting just about their entire entry fee back. We could up it to ten people. That would be 140/40/20. You know, for simplicity reasons, why don't we go ten people or more and we will split. $140 is still a decent reward for 1st place. Almost enough for a Type S blowoff valve!!!

fusion 01-13-2004 02:51 AM

How many confirmed players do you have as of now? And what sort of table layout are you going to have? Obviously multiple tables if there are a lot of people.

MATCHBX 01-13-2004 08:05 PM

I think we'll do it like Andy suggested it in the other thread. If we have too many for one table, we'll split to two. Draw cards to see who plays on what table. Then, since we're going to have some smokers in the bunch, we will be taking timely breaks where we redraw for table seats. Whether the breaks will be every hour, sooner than that or later then that will be decided on friday nite.

We have about six right now.

SuperSleeper 01-14-2004 12:42 AM

I was really hoping I could make it, but I have to work Sunday morning in Winona, and don't think it'd be a good idea to drive home tired. Maybe next time!

MATCHBX 01-14-2004 07:58 AM

The tournament is on Friday nite rather than saturday nite. I made a mistake when i typed the subject line. If you need more info or directions, check out the other thread in the general events forum. It has up to the minute details.

I can't wait!!! Only 2 more days!!!
