SlowWhite 01-07-2004 03:36 PM

Ok just going over estimated figures for getting Jenny's car to where we were expecting it to be when we bought it. (with some upgrades/new stuff) And well surfice to say should have Saved and bought Nash's 2G. (plus I'm sure Jenny would have been in heavin considering she's wanted that car since she first met Andy)

I think my Total spent on my GS-T/GSX - with Mods, maintance, price of Car, etc.
Probably over the $75K mark now. or at least I'll be damn close after this next round of upgrades. And that's with taking off the money I've recieved back from parts I've sold.

Jenny's Car is going to be WWWWAAAYYYYYYYY!!! over what we expected with having to replace the tranny.

Hell I was hoping to have in the 11.0 range with the amount we've spent so far.

-brian
ps: sneeks up on you! Now I remember why I stopped keeping reciepts for my Car.

Jana 01-07-2004 03:40 PM

I think I've spent around $25K on my car, including purchase price. I did not deduct parts sold or include maintanence.

Wow, it's amazing when you actually think about it....is it really worth it? To me, yeah...it's been well worth it. :D

SlowWhite 01-07-2004 03:43 PM

I should have bought a supra in hind sight. But I wouldn't trade some of the experience's I've had or some of the times I've had with people for anything.

so I guess that makes it PRICELESS.

JiN 01-07-2004 04:10 PM

That's funny. For some reason I was adding all this up while I was at work last night. I dunno the numbers yet, didnt have time to add them all, but I'll post up later.

b.a. 01-07-2004 05:14 PM

11-12k with car, parts, tuning, labor etc.
break it down:
-4k for the car with a clutch install and tranny rebuild, and a free paint job someday when i want to give up my car for a month
-almost 6k on parts
-about 1k for dyno time, maintence, and things i cant recall.

AJ 01-07-2004 05:17 PM

215 a month for the truck. lol

MustGoFaster 01-07-2004 06:22 PM

4750 or so.

ABV 01-07-2004 06:35 PM

About $6,000

Car - $1,000
Motor - $3,500
Other stuff - the rest of the money

As far as DSM's go, I've probably spent/financed about $30k all together. But I sold my car before I paid it off, so total cash out of pocket, including depreciation, is probably closer to $8,000 - $9,000. Credit cards suck. Never buy car parts with them. I'm still paying for the turbo, exhaust and tires that I had on my 2G, which I sold well over a year ago.

Kracka 01-07-2004 06:37 PM

I lost track about 2 years ago....the mods alone I am sure total to over 10-grand.

niterydr 01-07-2004 08:14 PM

10,400-car
800-brakes
650-output shaft upgrade
500-oem clutch
22-2 sets of plugs
65-air filter
40- mbc
150-boost gauge/turbo timer
70-plug wires
total $ 12697 plus oil, gas, and insurance.
Beating a car that has 75k into it, priceless :)
Its like the saying goes, "how fast do you want to go today? How much do you have to spend?"
The goal is 10's with less than 20k into car, pump gas.

At-Least-It's-An-Evo 01-07-2004 08:20 PM

$3800 for the car with ACT 2600 with 71k miles, now at 112.5k miles.
$$$$ on timeslips and tickets
$400+$80 on 4 bolt rear
$1k...... in trannys.
$1k in "mods" I'd say.... including the stolen, re-bought stuff. Damn cars. Time is money so I'd say time I've wasted is priceless...hahaha, wait....

1ViciousGSX 01-07-2004 08:38 PM

$18,000 for GSX
$2000 for turbo & tubular manifold
$800 for billet flywheel and clutch for the 2g
$800 for billet flywheel and clutch for the 1g conversion
$800 for GReddy 24R intercooler package
$500 for 272/272 cams
$1000 for DSMLink and laptop
$300 for MAFTranslator & 3.5 GM maf
$6000 for new Magnus longblock
much more I can't even think of right now

BuildADSM 01-07-2004 08:56 PM

$2.95 + tax...... if you will count match box cars cause I don't have a dsm.

Sorry for the bs answer I couldn't resist. Just rember you get what you pay for so yeah I got nothing.

Raptor 01-07-2004 09:15 PM

I am thinking maybe $5000 for the car and parts and probably $200 for tools to fill it full of holes ;)

ACRucrazy 01-07-2004 09:34 PM

$19,995
That is for the SRT with the following

Goat Blower 01-07-2004 09:45 PM

Hmmm, probably around $30K in parts and the car, I don't pay anything for my labor. :bounce:

For the other 47 DSM's I've had, I can't even guess. The good thing is that except for two of them, I've made a little profit on each.

Jakey 01-07-2004 10:08 PM

$270 a month on my truck for the next 56 months

JET 01-07-2004 11:32 PM

I added it up a little while back and I had about $25k into it as of last fall. That is to copy it, none of this maintenance BS. It should be up to $32k - $35k come this summer :3gears:

My maintenance has been pretty minimal except for a crankwalked engine ($4200 for that whole ordeal). My first DSM I killed a head and I have rebuilt a tranny on my 2nd one. This is #4 and #5 for me and I think I am keeping them. Unless I find a good deal on a 1g that isn't red!

john 01-08-2004 01:07 AM

I dont even want ot know... I would guess around 10g

I would guess somewhere around $9000

Matt D. 01-08-2004 05:08 AM

You guys who added in regular and unscheduled maintenance, labor (dyno time included) and other general costs associated with owning a car shouldn't even be here if you're going to whine about how much you've spent or are spending to own a car, let alone a DSM money pit. Parts and hard items are the only things you should ever add up when finding out how much you truly have spent on your car(s).

In all, I am going to spend less than $5000 on my car, built engine, and a lot of other goodies. The end product will result in a car capable of over 300whp and mid-12 second 1/4 mile runs... But who cares, read the sig. ;)

If you want to look at just the price of the Car and then the cost of Upgrades only . And No Labor Cost's.

Going off the my MN.dsm.org profile (part for part) - per my reciepts

Cost of Car - $13,500
Interior - $2382
Stereo - $5345
Exterior - $990
Performance - $11,063
Total=$33,280

4 Years of Labor Work - $16,000 (doesn't include work I've done or free help from friends)

The Rest is:
-Repairs - $17,000
-GSX - $5000

copper_gst 01-08-2004 10:10 AM

$7,000 for car
$1,500 for rims
$10,000-$12,000 Performance

All well worth it.

SlowWhite 01-08-2004 11:29 AM

4Jenny's Car

Car - $1500
Interior Mods - $60
Stereo Mods - $1653(includes price of stuff waiting to be installed)
Exterior Mods - $120
Performance Mods - $3508 (Includes cost of Mods that came with car($475) and Shep tranny)
Total = $6865

All said and done with labor/OEM parts, etc $8208 would be the total of Jenny's car so far.

In reality to get her car up and running only: $4443
-Car
-Shep Tranny
-ACT 2600 clutch
-60K tune up (tensioners,belts,waterpump,gaskets,Fluids)
-NEW head
-ARP's
-Labor I had to pay for

Still needs some body work/paint but Hopefully won't be more then $500

Does that include the 2G? or just the 1G?

-brian

Nash 01-08-2004 02:27 PM

That just includes my 1G. The topic is "What's The Total You've Spent Your Your Car?". Not What's The Total You've Spent Your Your Cars?. I'm not even going to figure out the total spent on all of my DSMs.

SlowWhite 01-08-2004 02:54 PM

HAHA your right.

looking at it that way the total for my GSX.

CAR - $5000
Interior -$2382
Stereo - $5345
Exterior - $990
Performance - $11063

=$24,780

I like this the amount keeps getting smaller vs. Getting Higher!!!!

Matt D. 01-08-2004 02:56 PM

Exageration vs. Reality

Glad I could help. ;)

That's pretty impressive when you consider my 75K car only runs 14.4 in the 1/4 mile hahahahah.

Plan on a re-match this summer once the cars are tuned

0-140 down france is just nuts. That race would have gone on for ever. It was dead even. But with the Cars coming up you know I had to let off.

JiN 01-08-2004 03:42 PM

I'm taking a rough estimate of around 20k.

I wasn't exagerating when I said I've spent over 70K in this hobby.

anyone that knows what the first 2 years of my dsm carrier were like knows I'm not kidding. hehe

But I was racing every single night back then and getting as much video as I could while doing it.

Those were the days back then. NO FNF, DSMr's were the Best group of people, Most parking lots on Uni were open/free of hastle, Red Rock was awsome no dumb @$$'s, And the cops actually stopped so that they could look at our cars vs. to give us tickets, Frizbee, football.

Hell I even once flew my R/C helicopter inverted down University Ave. Back when Speedwerks was still opened.

IF you want to go back even farther Hell MIAC, Xrated, Volksport were the only import clubs in MN.

jd1828 01-08-2004 10:16 PM

ive spent about $3000 on my 92 talon. $2300 on the car and the rest on parts and mods.

i had about $5k in to my 90 talon when the timing belt busted. $2300 for the car. lots of the rest was spent on parts. about $1200 in mods

hince why I have $800 into brakes, its a good 'just in case mod'.
A few years ago the scene was quite different, everything was more layed back, and competition wasn't as fierce. Oh well, we'll run again this year.
Lets do it at the track, that way you have a fighting chance :).
