As some know I have been smoking for 10 years as of Jan 21st of this year. I am trying to quit cold turkey. I used to smoke a pack or so a day and now only smoke a few a day, but with past attempts of quitting I made it a few days and broke down. Well now I am on day 3 of the cold turkey plan and it's either everyone must die, or I need something to eat. This post is sane due to lots of sherbert ice cream, chex mix, chilli, celery and ranch, cheese and crackers, plsu whatever else I could find to eat.

So anyone else ever try to break a bad habbit and win?

back to eating!

Jakey 01-04-2004 09:49 PM

I don't really remember ever quitting something that was as tough of a battle as quitting smoking is but there is nothing but positives from quitting smoking so good luck AJ!! :bounce:

Are you quitting smoking or are you pregnant??? :razz2: Just kidding!!!!

Best of luck to you Allan. I know it's tough to do but the rewards are worth it. Stick with it and you'll have plenty of money for mods and cars.

At-Least-It's-An-Evo 01-04-2004 10:48 PM

Quitting cars is pretty tough. I always ended up giving in . :razz2:  It's 20x more addicting and more time and money consuming than any drug or cigarette will ever be.

I don't see the problem there either....lol

I tried to cut the caffeine out of my life, and couldn't. I was home sick for 2 days of the worst headache of my life. I wanted to shoot myself. I don't think I will ever do that again. I have just cut back, and cut pop out instead. I only have one cup of coffee in the morning and I'm good to go. I know some people say coffee is worse, but at least I'm not taking in a couple cups of sugar a day. :)

My stepmother teases me about that all the time. She's from VA and they only know it as SODA. She also teases me about ending sentences in prepositions. Kinda like "Oh you guys are going to the track, can I go with?"

Enes 01-04-2004 11:22 PM

my dad did it cold turkey as well.. smoked for 22 years before that.. and at certain points he was up to 2 to 3 packs per day..

Now what helped him is a lot of candy.. just throw it in your mouth and suck on it..
now since you are young and have a girlfriend/fiance dont know which of the two.. a steady relationship is the word i guess.. sex can help as well to get your mind off the smoking too..

gaming as well...

no masturbating for 3 months.. man that must of been hell.....

Eating is helping. I haven't stopped all day/afternoon/night. Everything else doesn't happen often enough. LOL

And no spanking for 3 months. Fuck that.

Why, were you caught? That must have been difficult.

My mom quit cold turkey ~4 years ago on easter. She hasn't smoked since. Sunflower seeds helped her through the addiction. You can chew on them instead of eating everything you see.

MustGoFaster 01-05-2004 01:26 AM

My dad used filters and then switched to cinnamon sticks. Nawed on those for a year or two after he quit.

AJ 01-05-2004 01:41 AM

I'm gonna try to stay away from the whole hand and mouth aspect of smoking. I am going to be going through alot of breath mints and gum

4 days and smoke free. It's getting better. I got to buy some more tools today, eat more, and drink alot. I am edgy at times and tend to get lippy or just move around alot. It's perfect for working on cars, even though I don't, it would be perfect. Keeping hands busy.

How long where you smoking Miranda?

Then how do you expect to stop smoking? ;)

Jakey 01-06-2004 12:45 PM

Allan, I think you can do it this time. Beebe is going on a month without a cigarette and if he can do it, I definitely think you can.

Jana 01-06-2004 01:25 PM

He's doing really good, and I'm so proud of him for trying. It's going on day 5 and suprisingly I haven't had to deal with much of a temper yet. :D

BuildADSM 01-06-2004 05:43 PM

Keep up the good work! You have no idea the respect I have for people who try to quit. Also I don't know if this will help you or not but I have heard from friends that are trying to quit that chewing on a toothpick helps alot because so much of smokeing is a physicalogical (sp?) thing. He said that it helped him alot.

Also does the patch or gum not help? Just wondering.

JiN 01-06-2004 06:53 PM

The gum tastes horrible! Believe me... try chewing on a chalky menthol cig. YUCK! The patch only slows down the quitting process. Smoking is really hard to quit especially if you don't want to. I don't want to quit because I love the way it feels in the morning and when you're out drinking. I only want to quit because Rickey would prefer me to and it's not something I want my kids to see me do. So It's going to be really tough. I know some people have used the Eclipse cigs. and I heard it has some good out comes but it still is only just slowing the process of quitting.

~Miranda

Jana 01-06-2004 07:04 PM

Just think how much better you will feel Miranda once you have been smoke free for 2 weeks. I have heard it's amazing the difference after just a short period of time.

I congratulate you for doing this not only for Rickey, but for yourself!! :D

AJ 01-06-2004 07:42 PM

I would love to sit in a small room with no ventalation and hot box for about an hour!!!!!!!!!

MATCHBX 01-06-2004 08:05 PM

Man, this quitting smoking is really good for you Allan. I've hardly seen any typo's in your replies. Maybe quitting smoking has more than just health benefits.

Quit smoking=get better grammer and spelling. ;)

Good on you Allan. Stick with it. It is well worth it in the long run.

AJ 01-06-2004 08:16 PM

It just takes me an hour to type on sentence like this. Fuck the world right about now, withdrawl are here and eating doesn't help!

In other words don't piss me off. :smoker:

Jakey 01-06-2004 10:36 PM

I think that Stuart's suggestion of toothpicks may be something you would want to try. The owner of the music store I work at smoked for many, many years but quit about 10 years ago. Since the day he quit he has been chewing on toothpicks like they're going out of style but he has been smokefree. I believe that he does smoke cigars once in a while though.
