Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Looks nice...but sharp. Gonna cover it up with a bit of padding?

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I played around with my mill and lathe yesterday and completed the adaptor bracket for the master cylinder.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Sick, I want one!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
What master cylinder are you using now?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
How much extra effort will this add to braking? It would be sweet to ditch that giant thing out of the engine bay, any guess on weight savings?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Nice. Must be really handy to have access to CNC equipment to make stuff up like that! I have to resort to angle grinders and files, and end up with something that looks like meh... lol. Good work man.

You should have seen some of the hack work I had performed on my talon back in the day! I love this hobby since I’m always learning better techniques on just about everything. I enjoy fabricating and building stuff. I didn't use a CNC on this one, I used my manual mill. I’ve been building my tool collection for a while now. I still have so much to learn, I'm glad I can find just about any tutorial on YouTube. For instance I just figured out how to cut threads on my lathe. I needed to make a new rod to actuate the master cylinder, I practiced on a piece of aluminum. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...227_091757.jpg |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That is cool as hell man. It would be nice to clear up all that space in the bay though, makes me want to do it to the beater some day.
also- that EvoM link is pretty damn interesting, learned lots of things I never knew about brakes! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I installed my per cylinder widebands today.
http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...230_114537.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...230_114942.jpg I also noticed that I had a huge crack on the inside of my turbo exhaust housing. I found a Honda guy that had a new 1.15ar for sale, so I bought it. |

per cylinder widebands, that's some baller ass shit.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I installed my new exhaust housing on the car, I got it from a honda guy in CA for a smokin deal. I broke a stud on in the header when I removed the old housing. I lucked out when I drilled out the stud and was able to chase/find the original threads with a tap. So its a 1.15 ar.
http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...104_191321.jpg I also figured out what to do about my fueling issues by using a weldon 2345a: http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...9_111443-1.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...229_115510.jpg |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Looks good Mark, how many gallons of the cell?
Using E98 is the cell going to hold enough to leave from the pits to staging and making a pass then back to the pits? |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects

It holds just under 5 gallons. I do have enough fuel to get from the pits and back, however I do add fuel on each pass to make sure I don't have fuel cavitation. I drove it up to the mitsu cook out this summer too. I brought fuel with me to get back home. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I’m having the engine bay painted and the painter asked if I had any other parts that I desired to be painted. I had plans on building some areo features, it was low on my priority list, however the priority has now increased due to having them painted.
Here they are so far, I need to apply bondo, sand them up and send them and the car to the painter. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...108_200025.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...108_200036.jpg early in the process: http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...106_102511.jpg |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Damn that's nice.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Is that fiberglass? Any worries about the it cracking since the bumper is very flexible? It will definitely give your car a distictive look!

Ahh, that will work great then. You could put a bracket on the back since the stock fog lights attached in there. Nice job!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I’ve been sick all week, house bound Thursday and Friday. I’m finally feeling better today so I spend a couple hours out in the garage. Since I’m painting the engine bay and my aero stuff I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t f it up by starting anything new after it's painted. So the last mod I’m going to make this winter is to chop off the very front end of the car to clean things up and to my surprise lose a substantial amount of weight. I researched some DSMtuner threads on doing this, I also came across a link of John’s Gallant project. One guy reported 25-30 lbs max, however he didn’t weight anything. Here is the thread:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/custom-fabrication/438805-tubed-front-end-ffm.html I weigh everything I take out to see where I’m at. The following stuff in the pic weighed 62.5 pounds!!! http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...119_130512.jpg I purchased a Woodward tube bender yesterday and I’m excited to try it out on this project. I’m guessing I’ll add about 10-12 pounds back in. This car is going to be fun this season!! Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Man always good work in this thread. Of I don't make it out with a car I gotta at least come see this run.
Good work! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Crazy!!
Did you see john wigger's car? He chopped the front of his car off too! |

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Holy shit.
I hate to ask this since maybe it's too late, but how do you make sure that the chassis stays straight while you're welding in the new parts? Shouldn't there be some temporary crossmembers welded in or something? |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
What could have twisted? He hasn't welded anything in yet if your talking about the front end chop.
Also he has the tube trans mount in place but I still don't see how anything can twist? |

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
So the rear bumper delete you did much earlier is it the same style/ design as in the 'tooners thread? Massive weight loss FTW very nicely done!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Very nice Mark!!
Big brass balls you have taking on a project like this, I like it! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
crazy every time i read this thread your dropping 30 pounds
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Can you come and chop my car up please?
|

This is the first time I've really paged through your build thread. Your car is flipping amazing! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I would have to look back at the numbers. I think I cut out 60lbs, then after rebuilding a total loss of 43lbs sounds right. I cut the "frame" back to the k member mount and all the inner fender and strut mounts. I did that to make room for everything and to pull the front end off for fixing.
Looks good. ~John |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Mark, I was browsing through some weight loss threads and found a guy that did this. The plate is made of corrugated plastic and covered with suede, so it weighs next to nothing, but still looks nice and you won't be cutting yourself on a hacked up door. He has fixed lexan window as well though, not sure what your plan was in the window department.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
^I like that a lot.
I like the bit of rope/string whatever for the door, wanted to do that since I saw it in the old GT3 porsche. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
those doors look clean and functional, all you need imo, maybe if you wanted some hand crank windows
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
lol @ no cage and doors gutted on that car.
