Sucks about the insert. So did you purchase the suspension?

I didn't mean to ignore you there sir. I have a precision 185 TIG here, plus I could just take the rear subframe apart here too as to not clog up your space.
I'll be in contact, turns out I know another person that is an electrician and sounds like he will make time to hook up the 220V! :bengals:

I did purchase the susp.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

4/8/12-
Got a bit more cleaning up outside, got rid of junk I didn't need. Found some parts too.
I loaded up the 2G head, intake, exh. mani to get checked out.

I was finishing the install of my WB and I found one of my hvac cables has been preventing my glove box from closing all the way. it would latch but have a big gap and I just thought it was a normal junky thing for the old car to do, but its not so I need to find a longer cable and fix it.

I also found a box of cleaner plastic interior pieces so I'm happy about that.
While on this subject, I painted most of my old car interior black and it was pretty clean, but one thing I noticed was that it as just too dark in the car.
So this time I'm going to paint everything below the door panels/dash black and leave everything else gray apart from the headliner.

I'm planning on just filling my drivers side motor mount for now I only want to have a front and rear solid/prothane mount.

Lol, hell if I know. To be honest, if the block checks out good and MAP does their usual awesome job at slingin' parts, no reason I can't be driving it around this weekend. Susp. should be here before weekend too.

I'm trying.

So i acquired some mudflaps a while back and I was wondering if I should run them or not, they need to be "reconditioned" but I'm not sure if i should sell or keep and run them.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

4/11/12:

So i switched to 10-6s this week because I hate rush hour traffic and I wanted more time in the am. Anywho today was the first day in a while I could make it outside and it feels good.
I realized that my glove box still hangs down too far, so its junky anywho and I need to fix it.
I spent an hour outside and I'm gonna try and budget 1 hr/day if possible to do stuff.
I purchased a low mile front cover and manual cams, well I got the box open the front cover is junky as hell with glue or some shit all over it, someone took a grinder to parts of it, vice grip marks on the inside where it should mate to the block.
So while I made some ok progress outside, opening my package before coming in angered me a bit.

Hopefully this weekend I can get the head back on the motor.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

4/15/12:
well I'm back to working 730-330 for this week then I start my late shift the week after so hopefully I'll be able to find time to work on the car a lot more.

Anywho the fun stuff. I picked up a IPT restalled converter to use with my current setup.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...48387641_n.jpg
Here is the trans finally out of the car, took me forever, but it didn't help that I was getting sidetracked every few minutes.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...05175197_n.jpg
Only a shortblock left, but good news! Deck is good and head is getting stage 0.5 munchgsx treatment. :KANE:
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...28769114_n.jpg
Hub assemblies, control arms both need ball joints and I have polyurethane bushings to put in. I figured that I could/should get around to installing that 5+ year old polyurethane bushing kit, getting there slowly. All that's left from that old kit is for the rear trailing arms. I'm kind of excited really especially since I have Koni's and GCs with eibach springs in the car.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...65735286_n.jpg
This is how fun getting the trans in the car is, the auto is a shit ton heavier.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...32210569_n.jpg
Finally Progress made, transmission bolted up to motor. Torque converter installed. Block checked out good and after finding out that a head I got from a local was junk (I got hosed) luckily I have a backup getting sorted to go on the car. Nothing good sadly just making sure it doesn't leak and such and it will have stock cams.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...14753941_n.jpg
So i was about to clean up this mess and well look what Cecelia told me. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...34575500_n.jpg

At this point, i need to get all the head put back on the car, the interior put back together install my WB, get a longer HVAC cable, install suspension, pickup 90 water pipe and install, install FF OFH, wait for new plastic retaining clips and install splash shields.
That doesn't really cover everything, but you get the idea. I'm still hopeful to make proving grounds but we will see. I'd like to be ready for say the first official dyno day/1st may.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Im running the stock auto cams now too. I can tell you that I think all intake cams are the same and the exhaust cams are differant as far as stock cams go. I swapped in a stock manual exhaust cam that had more lift (measured with a micrometer), and I found a had lost 5-10% power all the way from 3800-7000! Stuck my original exhaust cam back in and have been happy ever since.

This is with a bastard 20g running 32-33 psi of boost.

Nice work Brown. I'm doing the 2G head as well, luckily I found an Evo3 intake and TB for it, so I won't need my 2G intake mani. Looking at it, it shouldn't be too hard to port out the opening to 60mm, or TKR said the 2.4 NA motors already have a IM with a 60mm opening. They should be dirt cheap used.

Nice! Get'r back together bud! So I know cam swaps are 'easy' and '30 mins' for you rippers but they're still a PITA for me...when we had spaz's car apart I asked him, 'how cheap would you need to buy a set of cams?....like if we got you a set of HKS 264/272's for $200 would you do it?' Just so we wouldn't have to take the car back apart even a little, do it once you know....long story short, I got hughes on the case and IIRC he got a set of 272's for about $160...just sayin :D

I don't know if you could bench an auto even in your prime, I have no doubt you could toss a manual though.

I don't know what you are saying.
But to be clear, if I could find cams cheap enough I'd get them. But I'm trying to purchase things only once here, and from what I'm finding a cam for a 2.0 won't be that effective on a 2.3. I'm aiming to get GSC S2Rs. The R designation seems to be for strokers, also autos and choosing cams seems to be not as easy as just dumping a set in like with a manual.

Anywho, you find me some decent 272s for $160 I'm game. To hit my goal I'm gonna need them though and a SMIM.

This week looks to be busy, not sure if I'll be able to get back to her till friday. :(

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

I think I still have a bunch of raw material at home that I bought when I planned to make a SMIM for my Talon (Square extrude for plenum, four round 6" long tubes for runners, plate for ends of SMIM & TB flange, head flange). I'll check when I get home but if you're interested I'd give it to ya for maybe $25 (I bet I paid 150-200 for it all) and we could try to build one. Only issue would be I think the flange I have is for a 1g head, but you could always just go buy some aluminum plate and drill/cut a new head flange.

Thanks for the offer man, I'm going to stick with the stock IM till proving grounds as I really want to run stock appearing this year. After that it is game on to get this record, meaning SMIM time but NO SPRAY!

I know that the car could do a 10 easy with spray, hell I bet could do a 10 with spray easy on a 5 spd, no doubt. Talking 100 shot.

Anywho, thanks bman, I'll be surprised if you don't have a bunch of PMs from locals that is a great deal.

That's true, never tried an auto. I can still get a set of 10 out of 185 lbs on the bench, but that's a whole lot easier than a greasy tranny with no handles dodging subframes and axles. Luckily not too far off my prime. :D

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Yeah, umm, I'll second the idea that the auto's are "a bit" heavier than the manuals. Try WAY heavier. They take up much more room in the engine bay too.

Whenever I get pissy while pulling my AWD trans, I just think back to helping Travis (twack) pull his auto. Never again... lol

Impressive!

However, bench-pressing Auto's should be an Olympic sport, they are NOT FUN.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

4/22/12-
Bit of a lameo update here, worked on getting my wideband and shift light installed today got 99% of the way done but I can't find the holder for the shift light or my stash of velcro for the wideband mounting. So that will have to wait.

I did fix my "junky" glove box and it now shuts tight with no sag!! I'm really happy about that although part of me just wants to get rid of it really...

Ordered my parts i need to put the head together and I'm supposed to be picking up a set of manual cams from munchgsx soon. One of my stock cam gears looked bent you could see it wobble when the car was running.

Apart from that not much else going on, need to find time really to make some real progress. I must say that I thought a bit about building this thing and well no matter how cheap parts are in the end its still a decent amount of $$ getting spent so with that said I'm going to try and buy as little as possible till I can get some $$$ back into my savings, plus I'm waiting for the issues that come up once its running.

I should have everything this weekend to get the head back on the car, so we will see what happens.

Didn't do much work on it the last week, but I did pick up the rest of the parts I need to put the head back on the car thanks to MAP and Nick@MAP.

I also dropped my water pipe off at JETs to get welded up and managed to get a great deal on a set of good ol' HK$ 272s. I'm pretty excited, almost excited enough to actually work on my car!
I spent most of today working on my honduh.

Been a bit since I've updated this, but I started school this week and well its gonna be a rough few years as usual i guess.
Anywho, I'll be spending most of this sunny day doing homework rather than putting the car together, but hopefully I will make some progress this weekend and its starting to look like I need to just hurry up and slap the car together if i want to make proving grounds or even my bday!

4/30/12 - Cleaned and bled 3G lifters that were already in a 2G head I picked up:
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...70004597_n.jpg

5/2/12 - New vs. old.
You can see through the old one, around the edges at least.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...36378683_n.jpg

5/3/12 - Initial install method, took me a while to get this far :o/
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...89309607_n.jpg

5/3/12 - initial install mock up. Looks like it could be a PITA.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...84892322_n.jpg

5/3/12 hmmm, 2G head all cleaned up. Munchgsx stage 0.5. To include Evo valvetrain, and thanks to nick/Cornfed2.4 HKS 272s!
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...06992625_n.jpg
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...11458826_n.jpg
Cornfed 2.4 thanks for the oil cap, hopefully its better than my old one! Booo mobil1, i need a new sticker for that.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...51876112_n.jpg

Pre-ported oiling hole:https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...11411928_n.jpg

Driver's side install, i decided to change the install method since the other way was going to be a PITA. To be honest I might end up throwing these in the civic and ordering some 5.25" for the talon just so i can have them fit in the door but I'll see next year or some other time. (Need to not get distracted by this non-necessary stuff)
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...05519581_n.jpg

Doesn't look to bad, they are Infinity Reference 6030cs components for the price they are rated very well and do well without an amp with I'm going to try out I think, I'm not going for some show quality system just something decent that I can turn up when I'm by myself.
https://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos...88891731_n.jpg

Tweeter install:
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...58677985_n.jpg

5/6/12-Speaker install complete
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...57069617_n.jpg
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...85979855_n.jpg

This is my gear shift display installed, i didn't grab a pic of the display itself I'll have to remember next time, but you might be able to see it in one of the next few pics.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...03361260_n.jpg
Interior 90% complete, its the most its been together in a very long time maybe 9 months! (you guys might be able to see what's missing.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...23771179_n.jpg

Usually I'd say what's left totally, but I'll try to keep it to the necessary items.
-Drill 2G head for install to block
-Install cams, lifters, etc to head
-Assemble manifolds to head
-Front ball joints, control arms with new bushings, coilovers.
-Buy injectors.
-need radiator.
-install rear splash shield stuff.
-finish trans installation, its bolted to motor and held up by a jack.

Now what i'm trying to make happen:
-Do some powdercoating since parts are off the car that should never have to come off again.
-Install vacuum pump, ton of room without head on the car.
-Drop rear subframe and install active toe elim, and poly bushings.
-possible rear brake upgrade.
-find a lightweight sub/amp combo.
-Rebuild TB, do FIAV blockoff, put in new shaft seals. (old ones leaked like bitch I was def. losing a good amount of power there)
-Stop adding weight to the car.

Hopefully by the end of this weekend I would of made some good progress. One can only hope.
