Re: Beater 2g
Yep, 95-96 is different than 97+. Of course you could always sell the xfer case with it and problem solved.

I figured the cost of a good auto build is about the same as the cost of a good manual build. Then last time I looked a twin disc was pretty damn close to the cost of a good converter. It all seems like a wash in the end for a quality setup. Just called Quarter Master, and those guys are the shit! Dude was super cool and said if I send the clutch in they will look it over for free and tell me what all needs to be fixed. Hopefully its cheap and I can get another track pass in before the end of the year! |
Re: Beater 2g
fingers crossed.

Re: Beater 2g
Yep down in IL. He also said that I should include a picture of the Wife/Gf with the clutch when I send it off. I lol'ed a little bit at that :) I also heard they were working on new disc with a different center section so if those are messed up I might ask about those.

Re: Beater 2g
The tranny should work in all years, the output shaft has the same ratio. It is the rear end and transfer case ratio that you need to match up for the year/car.
|
Re: Beater 2g
^so 95-96 have different rear ends? I thought just t cases..
|
Re: Beater 2g
A lot of those fast auto guys dont have "built" autos. Just converters and home made shift boxes.

Re: Beater 2g
same here.
The Cdub guys are running fully built IPT trans last time i checked. |
Re: Beater 2g
How much power can the stock auto's hold?
If they hold a decent amount, why not just rock a stock auto w/ a high stall, upgraded valve body/shift kit, and a big ass tranny cooler? |
Re: Beater 2g
There is a thread on the link forums where everybody lists their auto setups and what not.
|
Re: Beater 2g
Fastest completely stock auto tranny dsm I've seen run is 9.5 and that was with a full line pressure mod and shift box. I can't seem to find the video though..

Re: Beater 2g
You need to talk to Kiggly (Kevin?); he is on NABR and I believe he ran at the last years MAP event, he has the 90 Laser that runs low 8's I believe. He is a master at DSM auto trannies and what they can handle and what not. When I used to have my auto I talked to him a bit about them, he said you just need to get stronger end clutches, stiffer springs in the valve body, a torque converter, shift box, and a Good Cooler and you'll be set. The the torque converter is going to be the most expensive I think.
|
Re: Beater 2g
I am not nearly cool enough to be on NABR, last time I went there I could look at the duct tape/zip tie thread and that was about it.
We'll see what quarter master says about my clutch and how much it'll be to fix. If everything is fucked I might go auto, I'm far too A.D.D. to even know what will happen to this pile. |

Re: Beater 2g
Quarter master said my clutch is pretty much toast and that they could sell me a new one for $2,158. Then told me about a new twin disc they're coming out with and how it should be pretty cool.
I then I just asked if any of it is salvagable enough to make a run out of it. Then told him I want to try and get the record back for trap speed on a stock block. His attitude seemed to change a bit from the whole thing being junk to maybe being able to salvage something. He said he'll check with his guy again and see if they could throw something together. It'd be pretty bad ass if I could even get used broken shit that is less broken than mine. Here's to bugging people enough and hoping that I can get a pass or two in this year. Hopefully get out of my doomed 140 traps. |

The only thing that was still salvagable was one floater plate :( Hmmm maybe time to go auto :(

Re: Beater 2g
I haven't completely given up yet.
Picked up an auto 98 gsx that has a spun rod bearing. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6072413_n.jpg Probably swap in the auto stuff into my beater, swap what remaining 5 speed stuff I have into this red car and buy a tranny, t-case and use it as a daily driver. Might make another thread for the 98 when it gets going and I start working on it. Woop woop for having something to do to my car again. Can't decide to try and salvage the 7 bolt, try and get the extra 7 bolt going he is giving me, or rebuild the 6 bolt I have in the garage, or put in my muchgsx stage 2 motor and build a new motor for the beater. Argh, somebody make up my mind for me. |
Re: Beater 2g
put you muchgsx stage 2 in this and build a new better motor lol
|
Re: Beater 2g
That might be the way to go, I just want to get it going so I can sell of my Audi that I am using as a daily and put that towards auto goodies or a motor. I do kinda want to go after the et record on a stock motor though since I'm now taking out most of the driver skill

It'll be close :) http://mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28295 It would be pretty sweet to have a local hold the record though, you have the trap speed for it. |
Re: Beater 2g
Keep the munchgsx motor, obviously these noobs have no clue about it.
Plus now that you are auto, it should be easier to get the record well at least you hope it will be. Go get that record!! |
Re: Beater 2g
This should be the last full day with the dsm. It's been fun and I have learned more than I ever thought I would have with this thing.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_0717.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_0718.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_0719.jpg Shit is tuckin pretty good ;) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_0721.jpg ^What happens when an axle on my other dsm was stuck in the hub, this car had a good hub/axles, and having no junk tires until the next day. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/IMG_0725.jpg Had some good times with it.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KdZnFBNmQ8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjdNP...eature=related Oh well, time to move on to a less rusty more than just a tin can dsm. Thanks for the space! |
