And while I agree that yes the ideal way would be to have the motor out, does that mean it has to be done that way? I did the one cylinder on my talon with the motor in the car. I had a bunch of rags/blankets under that cylinder, around the crank, to catch as many particles as possible. Then wiped down the cylinder walls as best I could with rags and tranny fluid and wd40. Never had an issue. Shane when you did the pistons in your 2G, those were just drop in correct? Did you remove the motor for that? Just a thought, to each their own :) |

Re: Evo X upgrades
Whenever I hone a block, I pull it out and apart to make sure nothing gets in there. It makes a huge mess when you ball hone a block. I am not comfortable doing that in car on a customer car, it doesn't take much metal to screw up things.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Planning to bring the intake to Primo tonight. I'm going to have them weld an AN fitting on it for a return from my catch can.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I was doing a lot of reading on crankcase ventilation today.
I'm probably wasting my time trying to make the stock setup work--it is only a single fitting that couldn't be more than 3/8ths. It sounds like most setups are running two to four large AN connections (AN10+). Four is obviously overkill but I won't get much ventilation with the stock setup. I did learn a fair bit. The can on the front of the motor (PCV to intake manifold) collects the most oil but is apparently not the important can for ventilation...the back one is. For now I'm going to get a fitting on my intake for that connection and see if it does anything. My suspicion is that I'm going to have to pull the valve cover and have some large fittings welded in, along with a different catch can. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Went to drive the Evo to Sensers tonight. The car dies every time that I let the clutch out. Doesn't move at all. I fear that something expensive happened to the drivetrain on my venture into the snow on Saturday. Guess I'll try warming it all the way up tomorrow night and try again. FML
The beater works and the Blue Moon is cold. :) |
Re: Evo X upgrades

Nothing seemed unusual when I parked it. I'll try it again on Thursday night...bring a flashlight out to the garage and see if I can see anything (like a puddle of fluid!). |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Was your parking brake on?
Also I have had parking brakes ice up and stick to rotors before. Perhaps that is what happened and you need to jar the ice loose. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
^ +1 on that ive had it happen a few times to me. ive also made the facepalm mistake of leaving the hand brake up.
