Nice!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Just finished the last "install" piece just now...the undertray! I confirmed no leaks after the 6 times or so I drove it, so buttoned it up. Next will be a full detail, but might have to settle for just a rinse this year with how cold it is.
My idle/cruise trims are almost done being dialed in, hopefully do some boost here soon. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Cool!
Still thinking about cruising down to the lunch spot with us this weekend? |

I also had illusions about maybe rockfalls this weekend, but the cruise is more likely that that as my clutch is still iffy at best right now. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I was about to say RFR is open this saturday.....
Good luck. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Driveability is mostly dialed in now, its been a bit rough as its so cold out though, but fuel trims are in line and once the car warms up its great to drive. Probably work on this more in the spring.
Might have some fuel pump/pick up issues still somehow...no idea how, brand new everything there. I think something might be tangled up in the tank, like the siphon line not on or something. But we added a ton of fuel to WOT as it was angry last night and this morning the car pulls clean now so back to boosting, yay. I can't do cruise or RF tomorrow though, finishing deck which needs to be done before snow flies. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Stop whining, you can finish your deck on sunday!

House mods have taken priority over getting the evo running the last few months. They are almost as satisfying. |

Finally have the car sorta running. Lots o spools and torques.
Still really rich but this is like the third revision since I fixed fueling issue. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psca84432e.jpg |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
You going to be short shifting ftw. Lol. Glad to see you got the jack stand queen out on the road. Hope you keep the car running and enjoy it for a couple months.

And yes, short shifting big time, but the powerband is still there, just shifted down for tire burning action :) Just leaned it out some and here is current pull: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psad7fdb83.jpg |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Thats fucking awesome!!! Congrats dude
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Dude almost 13:1 and 36psi? Not what I would do. :P
Still, epic torque! Why are you starting pulls over 3000rpm? Hit the gas at 2500 or less dude, let's see how low this thing will hit boost! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Strangely the car pulls very clean and no hiccups and literally zero knock. But I will make sure its all good before I beat on it too much :) I tried to start lower, part of it is just traffic, making sure no one is behind me before pulls but part of it is I feel like Virtual dyno doesn't import the lower stuff. I will try to get one starting at like 2000 so that maybe it shows up by 2500 on the charts. The car feels good again though and 2nd gear is a riot. But have to shift by 7000 otherwise feels like poop. Maybe not such a bad thing, guessing stuff will hold together better not winding out to 9000. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
You know it doesn't go back to true E85 in the summer anymore, lean that biotch out to high 11's to redline! haha
36psi is pretty beastly on stock turbo. Congrats again on getting the car running, must feel amazing to have your investment giving smiles again. BTW, what was your fuel issue? I hate fuel issues. So messy, and should be so simple but they never are. |

It does feel great to have it driving/running well again...now quick, time to sell ;) Main issue was my fuel hose in tank was kinked badly coming off the pump. It was a hard plastic hose (bendy one but hard plastic at ends) that I had to heat up A LOT to get it onto the pump. By doing that I deformed it enough to screw it up. So I put a Gates submersible hose in there for the feed which fixed a lot of it. Then I redid my fuel pump ground, ran it back to battery and then my tuner worked the tune as well and it all seems good now. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Dave, you seriously need to get this thing on a road course with that curve.
At least bring it out to DCTC next year! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I plan to try DCTC for sure, I was trying to do that this year but the car was slow to come together.
If I do go racing besides 1/4 mile shit I am going to turn boost down some, it feels too aggressive as it sits for road course or auto x stuffs. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I know all my car does it make fake graphs now a days, but here is where the car is at now. This is a lot more than i thought i could get out of the stock turbo, even on my setup. The car feels pretty damn quick for a stock turbo and feels very strong to 7000 rpms. 2nd gear is insane, still haven't tried 1st hah.
Anyway, here is the graph. Still tweaking some but this is close and all I think I can get out of the setup. This was on 125th/main st in blaine, so pretty flat, so guessing numbers are kinda close to real dj numbers. Anyway, last update of the season, going into storage and on jackstands soon. But the car is running good so I hope to make the 1st track day of spring and actually drive the thing. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps7538db13.jpg First plans for next year are the following: - Exedy triple disc clutch - Radium surge tank (wally 450 version), and rewire AEM320 in tank to go back to dual voltage setup. - Probably new tires, rivals i think, or maybe DR's. - Maybe different turbo, but not sure yet. I want to drive this setup at the track first. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Storage soon? oh my bad, I forgot you don't keep it at home.
Drive it till the first sign of salt. you have a good week or 2! That's an awesome powerband |

Thanks, this powerband is actually really fun, feels like what an evo power band should be i guess. |

A new turbo???? WTF

Nice power curve, Dave :) Now park that beast and have some peace of mind for a few months knowing the car won't need any preparation for spring!
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
LOL @ new turbo. Does not compile.
Nice on getting it together though! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
if it is running well now. leave it the fuck alone

The new turbo is low on the list, very low. Maybe I will rework my stocker into an EF1 or something for a bit more top end but I don't know that I want to. Quote:

And as I have said, very very small chance of doing more than a bolt on turbo, at least for next year. And if I do go bigger again it will be borg warner and the EFR line. But clutch, surge tank and new tires are probably all I get done next year assuming nothing breaks. I feel like my rear diff is angry with me and the torque it sees, so hopefully that lasts. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
So i found out my tuner is visiting MAP in two weeks, February 12-13.
Adam at MAP hit me up and said he was flying in to tune a shit load of cars on that Thursday and had free time on that Friday. So I am trying to arrange to get my car there for that Friday to actually do a full dyno tune and finish my current setup! Should be a good day if all the details work out and then I can see what the car actually makes on a real dyno again as I haven't been on one for quite some time. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
What's the current setup?
So this thing will actually be tuned and ready to go to right? That's gotta feel good. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Quote:
Yes it feels good to have it mostly 100% except for wear items that need doing. The car is mostly tuned, this will just finish it off 100% and we will see what this thing can really make. But regardless yes it feels good. |
