I always backed up DW in threads and said some people just suck at tuning and others are just quick to blame the injectors etc etc.

But I couldn't help but wonder when my motor went.

Wanted a 3rd party to check em first and I am sending them back to DW soon for their own evaluation and also hopefully a refund since they were giving so many p0300's.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Ok, so maybe I am being paranoid here but I want to check with some other people to make sure.

I seem to always get screwed in deals involving used parts, cars and just generally scams.

So this guy, seems decent enough from EvoM just paid me $1800 for my FPblack, its in my paypal account now.

Should I just get it back to my bank account and ship it and be done? The reason I ask is he told me not to send it to his paypal account's address as he was moving and I need to send it to a friends.

For some reason last minute changes like this scare me. I mean I guess I could just get the money and ship it and yay for me I sold it, but for some reason I am a little nervous.

Do I have a reason to be? It's $1800 so that worries me, on other stuff I've sold its a few hundred, not the end of the world if it doesn't work out but this is different.

Are there any paypal scams or anything I should be concerned about? I am questioning him now via PM.

help my noob ass.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Hmm, that is kinda fishy. If you deposit the money into your bank account, it should be good to go right? They can't take it back once it's out of the paypal account?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I am confirmed on paypal so they have my bank account number so not sure.

It seems as though he gifted it so I don't think paypal can do anything if this guy disputes it but I am not sure.

Tephra told me to have the guy update his paypal.

If it was gifted to you, I believe you are in the clear. I am kind of a paypal n00b though as well, but people always say never to gift money to someone for a part because if they never send it, you are screwed.

Transfer to bank and verify with Paypal that the account hasn't been hacked. Also make sure the Paypal address matches the email address registered with the forum. Is it a newb? Feedback rating? Verified Paypal account?

It says non Us Verified.

He is Grif on EvoM, I googled his real name, he had a facebook with evo X's which made me feel better and he has been around on EvoM for a while, as in like 2-3 years, but only 22 posts.

Kracka can you PM me his forum email?

he had two itrader postive reviews on EvoM as well.

Have him do some extra work to prove the address, letterhead, pics of his old address and new address, something creative that he can't fuk up and that will let you know he is who he says he is. If you have the money, who cares.

See that is basically how I feel now, I can transfer to my account and ship it and whatever, done.

As I said before, I believe he gifted it, so paypal doesn't get involved really right? anyone?

It just seems fishy to me, maybe its cause I have had a few drinks tonight or maybe because I seem to find myself getting scammed for trusting people too easily, not sure. My evo 8 I was scammed on by a dealer and it cost me 2 years of having an evo I couldn't drive and a lot of money and arbitration, so that is why I am paranoid now.

Here's the PM response:

Oh, yes I am actually moving. All my stuff is in the garage at my new house, but they are doing renovations so I can't actually move into the house yet, that's why I didn't mention I was moving because I thought I would be in the house by now. I decided to buy the turbo right away because you said you had another person looking to buy it, and it's a really good deal. I'm staying at my grandmas house believe it or not lol, so I didn't really want to ship it there as she lives in a seniors home. If you like I can send you pictures of my stuff in the garage as proof lol.

If you like you can wait until you get the money in your bank. I have no problems with that. And yes I gifted the money, just so there wouldn't be paypal fees. When I bought my tires off evom, the seller wouldn't ship them because fees took 40 bucks from the price. So I thought I would avoid that by sending it as a gift. Sorry, guess I should have asked first.

I have only purchased two other things off evom. I bought my rims, which were $2800 from a member called Tantrum X and my tires which were $850 from a member called l888apex. You could probably ask them if you like.

I actually wasn't even planning to buy another turbo as I had an fp red ready to go in my car, but I thought about it and decided to buy something bigger. My friend who I'm Shipping the turbo to is actually the guy who bought my red. He's my beat friend lol.

So hopefully that answers your questions. If you have any more just let me know. I'm not trying to scam you or anything, sorry if it seemed that way.

Mike

I also just go off the phone with paypal. They said the only thing he can do is dispute it with his credit card company as it was a gift, but she said I basically have nothing to worry about.

Looks like I'll just ship it out after the payment clears to my bank.

That seems pretty legit.I can see why you are worried though.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I asked him to take pictures of the garage with his stuff and also pictures of mail to himself with his paypal address on it.

We will see where this goes.

In the meantime I called my bank too to see their opinion. I am going all out to ask as many people as I can about this.

You are never completely safe with Paypal. If he disputes it with his CC company, the money will be held(even if it's left your paypal account.. your account will go negative and paypal and CC will come after you for it) and you will possibly lose the money.

Things you have to do to prove your case when it's disputed:

Copies of all correspondance with buyer.

Tracking info for shipment.

Ship it insured

Ship it with signiture required

Generally they say it has to ship to the billing address or else you are screwed case wise.

Hope this helps.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Right and the whole shipping it to a friends house worries me, that's the only thing.

I am half tempted to close my paypal account now as then they can't do shit I wouldn't think, once I get the money.

Regardless, I spoke with 2 people on evoM that dealt with him and they said their transactions went fine with him.

I am quite sure paypal is out of it at this point as he gifted it. Maybe the CC company will come after me but I guess I don't care. If that is the case then shit happens and I will deal with it. i don't know what else to do as he supposedly doesn't have a billing address.

he also said he didn't use a CC, he used his bank account so I should really be fine (assuming he isn't a scammer of course). That actually corresponds with him saying he had to wait for his paypal to link to his bank account as he waited a few days before sending it.

The whole FPblack thing worked out fine, I was just being paranoid but it did seem fishy.

My MAP EF4 is being built now, they said 2 weeks but it will be a bit longer I guess because Bob is out so porting is delayed.

Here is my flow sheet from RC just for reference on my old injectors.

So...it says 'after cleaning' did they clean them before testing them, or just throw them in the tester as-is?

Murlo26 07-13-2011 10:11 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I wondered that myself, and honestly I am not sure. I don't think I paid for them to clean them but maybe they did. They were pretty clean when I sent them, as in no gunk or anything.

If anything the cleaning might of just helped get them all closer and what not, I doubt it would seriously affect the results but I could be wrong.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

If something was gumming up the injector it could make a big difference for that cylinder I would think.

But with how old they were, and you running ethanol, I doubt that would be the case.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

You never know, but you would think maybe they would have said something if one was way out of wack. We had one customer switch to E85 and he couldn't even make it here on the base tune we gave him because some of his injectors clogged right away. He got them cleaned and they were all back to normal, but the before number on one of them was down to 30cc. I have had older Supra and Mustang guys have to clean their fuel filters 2 or 3 times during a single dyno session because they were pulling so much crap out of their old ass gas tanks.
