HA! People are already using the AFE in conjunction with the supercharger kits ;) Most the kits reuse the factory box, but a simple adapter and waa-laa!

Such a nice little setup, and the best part is you can sell it once you install the blower! :)

+1!

Looks nice and clean, like others have said. When are you getting it back to cobb for more numbers?

Just waiting for Diablo to release the AFE-OTS tune, then a few hundred miles on it for the ECU to make all necessary parameter adjustments as it learns the setup/conditions.

The AFE OTS map is in, now I just need to update the handheld and flash the car! Re-dyno next week? Likely :)

Simple mods with good gains ftw!

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Butt dyno says SUCCESS!!! Driving to work this morning the car felt great; the gains are noticeable for sure. I plan to schedule another dyno appointment for next week giving the car a chance to relearn all the parameters.

Car fired right up! This unit is actually pretty cool, besides it not playing nice with my work laptop (I blame IT), is is very user friendly. The touchscreen is an added bonus, plus you can make changes right from the handheld unlike the Accessport which you have to make changes on the computer, update the unit, then reflash the car. Added bonus, they made both 91 and 93-octane tunes for the AFE intake. It flashed quicker than I thought it would too.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Very cool! It will be interesting too see what kind of gains you get.

What kinds of things can you change from the handheld? (besides the obvious tune)

Throttle Booster?

Kracka 08-14-2014 09:26 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Drive-by-wire thing, you can do the same with ECUFlash or Accessport. Basically, you can program your gas pedal to be more responsive, or leave it alone so it's linear. For example, 50% @ the pedal can translate to 70% @ the throttle body, or leave it alone so 50% = 50%.

asshanson 08-14-2014 01:14 PM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

On the C5/C6, I thought it was the other way around. 50% throttle only equated to 30-40% at the throttle body (which makes it feel more linear at low throttle), and there were tune adjustments so that the gas pedal to throttle body became linear, which results in a lot touchier response at low throttle. But anyway, cool that you can make all those adjustments with the handheld device.

Kracka 08-14-2014 01:35 PM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I honestly have no idea how it's set from the factory, I was just throwing out some examples. Sorry, didn't mean to imply the factory settings are perfectly linear. I do know it changes based on the driving mode you're in though (Weather, Eco, Touring, Sport, & Track). I personally chose to leave the throttle boost slider at 0% to stick with the factory settings.

My buddy just picked up a red 6spd auto 2LT. Took me for a spin, very nice ride! I enjoyed the exhaust how it was quite tame, but sounds mean when he gets on it.

Very nice! Z51 model?

Kracka 09-08-2014 08:18 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Another cool feature about Corvette suspension is factory adjustable ride height so yesterday I decided to lower mine down as far as it would go! From the factory, they're generally set in about the middle of the range with room to raise or lower about 1/2" in either direction. Not a huge drop, subtle but noticeable. No ill effect on handing or ride quality, and from what others are saying a realignment isn't required since everything generally stays within spec (I plan to have the dealer check it when I'm in for my next oil change though).

Yep they got the Z package. Apparently GM is offering employee pricing on any 2014 for anyone who owns a car that was involved in the recent recall. My buddy owns a Cobalt SS, so they qualified, and got a $9k discount right off the bat for that.

Kracka 09-08-2014 08:43 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Wow, that is amazing! Good for them. Getting anything under MSRP on a Z51 model is still near impossible.

Halon 09-08-2014 08:52 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I think they were really wanting a 1LT Z51 in dark grey, but sounds like it's starting to become slim pickings for 2014's.

Kracka 09-08-2014 09:02 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Yeah, 2015's are already hitting dealerships so most the 2014's are gone.

That makes sense why the dealership was willing to honor employee pricing then.

asshanson 09-08-2014 01:59 PM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

That is cool that the mag ride isn't affected by lowering the car. On the C6 design the mag ride would self adjust the height a bit, so if you lowered it, the shocks would just end up over extended. Even 1/2" makes a difference in looks, should be sweet.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Nothing too crazy, but I'm beginning work on a custom tune today with "DiabLew" who is a well-regarded GM remote tuner for DiabloSport.

http://www.diablewtune.com/

More than anything, this is just to make tweaks/adjustments to the canned Diablo AFE 93 tune I'm currently running to maximize it for my exact setup and gas. The fact he includes free retunes for a year is a huge bonus too for when my ported manifolds arrive from MAP :D

I've looked into a custom dyno tune @ LG Motorsports with HPTuners, but I just do not want to lose the flexibility of the handheld and being able to go back to stock, switch to a 91-octane tune, etc. whenever I need. I also like how the Diablo remains invisible to the dealership once you go back to stock (this is a huge plus due to the 5/100 powertrain warranty).

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Lew and I have been going back and forth with logs and tunes since last week and now have on my car what he thinks should be the final version. I'll take one last log this afternoon to verify! :D

I've been very impressed with him, he responds to emails/logs with a revised tune practically instantly. It's nice feeling the engine want to pull to redline now instead of dying off.

Actually, just thinking about this, when the z06 comes out and those guys start upgrading SC's and what not you could probably get the Z06 blower for a decent price.

Are the shortblocks the same on the z06 and the stingray? internals wise i mean.

Maybe different cam?

They don't do any clean up work in the collectors?

Love that coating. I gotta get an FP manifold and get that coating on it, they look like piss otherwise. Does it have any heat retention properties?

Different motors, LT1 for Stingray and LT4 for Z06. I doubt many people will change out the blower, they had to make a special one to fit under the hood.

The coating does have heat retention properties and does a good job of helping to control underhood temps. On my IX & X I coated everything worthwhile and it make a noticeable difference (exhaust manifold, turbine housing, & o2 housing/downpipe), plus retained stock heatshields wherever possible.

2 of the 4 runners had work done in the collector area, but the other two were left alone in the name of runner balancing. Overall flow is up 13.8% and runner imbalance is reduced from 7% to below 1%.

CFM flow by runner:

Hanson got it right; I don't forsee many Z06 guys swapping out the blower. Pulley, sure, but doubtful on the actual unit. The blocks started from the same design, but the Z06's LT4 is significantly beefed up to handle 650/650 and still get a 100k mile warranty, plus a bigger fuel system of course. Upgrading a direct-injection fuel sytem is a big hurdle, but supposedly a lot of the Z06 components will swap over to the LT1 for the Stingray guys wanting to make big power. That said, the stock Stingray DI fuel system seems to have no problem supporting 600-650whp.

Now I need to source and intake manifold core to get into MAP's hands...
