Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
:( sucks about the clutch. I bet its a spring rolling around in there.
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
We should know for sure in short order here. COBB wants him to go with a 3-port BCS instead of the MBC for dyno tuning so a Grimspeed will be added shortly here too.
I told him to also look into the CM FX350 clutch material as well; it seems to be a new upgrade vs. the FX300. |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Can he just keep his pressure plate then and just swap out disks?
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
We reused the pressure plate & flywheel this time around, but it all depends on if there's any damage once we pull it apart.

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
If it were me, I would never reuse anything, but not my car, money, nor choice ;) I am going to petition for everything (complete clutch kit & flywheel friction ring) to be replaced this time around to avoid any unnecessary failures.

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Any update?
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
More clutch problems...got the tranny back on Saturday only to have to take it off again on Sunday. We're fukkin pros at unclipping the TOB now.
Dyno tune with COBB is scheduled for Saturday 3/23 at 9am so we have about 2 1/2 weeks to get it running and finish break-in. |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Oh man. Still running a FX400 or whatever it was?

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
New clutch setup on the way: CCI Stage 3.5 segmented ceramic clutch and CCI 10.8lb flywheel.
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
3.5? So is that like a stg 3 disk and a stg 4 pressure plate?
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Stage 3 is what I had in my IX which is segmented Kevlar, this is a step up in power holding with segmented ceramic, but will be more streetable than the Stage 4 ceramic 6-puck. All CCI clutch kits for the 8/9/X now include their 3000lb HD pressure plate.
Long story short, the CM FX300 disc he bought isn't compatible with the PP from his CM FX400 kit, and his FX400 disc is defective with a loose hub. Going the CCI route was the quickest thing possible since MAP had it all in stock while Andrew waits for CM to inspect and replace his FX400 disc, which will then be sold with the matching PP and TOB. So, if anyway wants a brand new CM FX400 disc with barely used PP and new TOB... ;) |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Gotcha. Sounds like a nice combo!
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Thats the clutch I just got in my car, love it so far.

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Woohoo! Running and dyno-tuned, very productive weekend! A few minor issues this weekend but nothing serious (o2 sensor, dipstick, and LICP coupler). The tune is done though and she runs/drives/idles incredibly smooth. Calvin @ Cobb does want to do a check-up on the tune and an alignment before the cruise, after the engine gets a few more miles on it (only 115 miles when we dropped it off yesterday).
I'll let Andrew post his results and chart :) |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Yes!! I want to see results i'm going to go search evom haha

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
With Andrew's permission, here you go!
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG0295.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG0296.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG0297.jpg link to larger version: http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/547/IMAG0297.jpg 453whp/390wtq @ 27.7 psig Keep in mind that this engine is still tight with only 115 miles on it when it was dropped off for tuning. We were battling boost leak and couplers popping off all day with a poor fitting LICP and by the end of the day the fuel pump and fuel were beginning to over-heat so we called it a day. Once the engine gets a few more miles on it to loosen up and a properly fitting LICP is installed it will be back on the dyno for a few final runs and adjustments (April 13th, the weekend before the cruise). I expect the end results to sit somewhere closer to the 470whp range once it's able to take a touch more boost and timing, and probably rev out a bit further. It is tuned on Tephra V7 with multiple fail-safes and 91-octane map-switching setup, along with gear based direct boost control. The EF4 has MAP's "25 psig" HP WGA, but I have it just barely pre-tensioned so WGA pressure sits around 17-19 psig, with his 91-octane "safe" map sitting in the low-20's. If a high knock count is ever observed boost will immediately drop to spring pressure. I do love that rock solid boost curve! |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
So legit! Hella pump gas setup that's for sure. I'm glad all the v7 stuff is being fully utilized, I forgot about all of those little details tephra added.
This is a solid 420 on Shane's dyno. Hella legit. |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Nice fat powerband. LOVE IT!
Looking forward to seeing it in action on the MSSC :) |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
The powerband feels awesome, with the longer gearing it goes on forever!

I think its the HKS 4.11 if I remember right.
Great looking setup Andrew, can't wait to see it on the cruise! |

Bad ass! I like the boost by gear and failsafes too, that stuff is cool.
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
That boost curve is amazing! What do you think helped it out the most to get it to be so solid?
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Is it true boost by gear or just low gear/high gear boost like the X's have?

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Damn!! I made that on E85 haha. Are you planning to do an E85 tune after a few more miles?
|
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
He hasn't had the greatest luck with E85 in the past. He has mentioned trying out race gas eventually though.
Safety, reliability, and longevity is the name of the game with this build. |

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
I consider e85 to be plenty safe, however I guess that could be taken with a grain of salt with the luck I have.
I saw toss in some ms109 for when you wanna go fast if you want consistency. |
