Charles, Matt told me about what happened at the auto x in forest city this weekend. I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident. We were relieved to know that you are ok and in good spirits. Anyone have pics of the car? Just interested in seeing how bad it looks. My friend said he seen one but I assume it was on a social network that I am not a part of. Anyways good to know you are alright!

Haha, might be someone who I hear expressed interest in a totaled Evo? :p

The transmission popped out of gear on impact, so I ended up having to manually kill the motor; it was still purring away after the hit. If insurance pays out, I'll likely buy it back, the motor alone is worth it.

Holy shit spaz were you spinning like a top and hitting the wall?

Hopefully you can buy it back and make money for a new car!

LOL nope. Went off straight, then tossed the car sideways for a more... We'll call it "desirable" impact.

I'm hoping to cover most of the expense of a DD with what I get out of the Evo, then looking for a replacement Evo from there. Maybe a IX, but I'd like a X... Something less project-y and time consuming.

This might be a silly question, but did you have any type of special insurance or does typical automotive insurance cover an accident like this? Wasn't sure how insurance companies handle an accident like this when it's not normal "daily driving".

Im curious on that as well, since the guy who was driving the Abarth had his insurance company deny his claim.

Most insurance companies have exclusions for all types of racing and driving on the track, even if it's just a high speed driver education event. You can get a full weekend of track coverage for about $100-$200 with a 10% deductible (depending on car value). Check out Lockton Motorsports.

That is fucking awesome. Mitsu (engineering) not warranty claims

Re: 2013 Proving Grounds

See, my insurance policy states that they will not cover racing, practicing for racing, speed contests, or speed demonstrations. An HPDE is an educational event by definition, and I had not signed up for any racing on the road course later in the weekend. I wasn't racing, I couldn't have been practicing for racing I wasn't doing, it wasn't a speed contest, and I had nothing to demonstrate.

The fact that they didn't immediately deny the claim is good news for me, it means their legal team is having trouble catching an HPDE under their terms. Last I heard they were contacting BIR to try to get more info.

That is really good news for you, hope they end up covering it. I checked with my insurance company, and anything on a track is specifically excluded, so even educational events are not covered. After my near miss at Newton this weekend, I am really considering buying insurance for future events, mostly because a 5mph crash will cost me $10k in body repairs.

Yeah, good news Spaz and good info Andrew. If it really only costs like $100 to be covered for a weekend, that's really not too bad. I may do that if I ever go to an event again.

Insurance seems cheap doesn't it vs. the cost of writing off a car for sure. My insurance does not cover any tracking events, but after the run in the rain @ PG2, I think its a great idea to have it.

Most insurance companies now, on top of wording similar to what I listed, also specifically exclude anything on a permanent or temporary race track like yours does. Mine is just a bit behind the times on that, thankfully.

I will 100% be getting track insurance in the future so that I don't have to deal with this headache, even if they do cover it.
