Re: Project S14 240sx
Wow. I'm at a loss of words about that differential....
Awesome job getting that thing out though, damn. :| |
Re: Project S14 240sx
LOL @ your welded diff...They weren't kidding when they said they welded it. That's horrible. Looking good so far! Can't wait to see the exhaust!
|
Re: Project S14 240sx
Looks like they just popped the cap off the diff and started welding away...New diff looks good, I bet it will drive much better now. Any pics of the exhaust installed?
Lets go find the previous owner and take turns kicking him in the balls! |
Re: Project S14 240sx
Wow is all that residue on the inside, metal shavings? Thats horrible.
|
Re: Project S14 240sx
Welded to the max for JDM drift king status!

Re: Project S14 240sx
The residue inside was because I had already spent an hour cutting the axle out with the sawzall before I took the pics, so it was all the metal dust from the carbide blades. That stuff was a bitch to get cleaned out, but it's good as new now! It's soooo much nicer to be able to go around a tight corner now without the car clunking, surging, and skipping the inside tire, and to be able to pull into a parking spot smoothly and quietly.
I didn't get a chance to take any pics of the exhaust installed, the car needs a wash badly before I take any new pics of it. I'll probably get them early next week. |
Re: Project S14 240sx
Kevin, you need to post this on MNSC. That is absolutely unbelievable.

Re: Project S14 240sx
^word, give all the other asshats an idea of what welding the diff is. lol
That made me puke, really my stomach hurts now. |

I am also a loss for words on this one. It worked...but FAIL! I am glad to see that this car is coming back from being a POS to a nice restored Nissan that will probably drive better and perform better then any of these stupid mods that were done to the car. I am glad you had the patience to hack that out of the car. I would have tried to find another rear end... +1 on posting this on MNSC just to show what not to do.. |
Re: Project S14 240sx
Wow I can't believe my eyes, that is crazy shit. Take it on some twisties with the new LSD yet then? It must feel a lot better!
|
Re: Project S14 240sx
Did you drive in figure 8's yet?
|
Re: Project S14 240sx
It's a helical LSD, no need for figure 8's ;) As far as driving the car on twisties, I've only driven it from Mark's house to home, then to work and back today. I got on it going around a couple tight 90* corners, and the rear end still steps out nicely, and feels more planted than with the welded diff since the helical LSD transfers more torque to the wheel with more grip.
I thought about just finding a whole different rear end, but the only one I knew of at the time that was available was way up in East Bethel at u-pull it, and that would have been out of a '91. I figured it was easier to just cut this one out than go lay in a puddle of mud trying to pull the one up there. |
Re: Project S14 240sx
holy welded balls batman! that is a picture to keep. lol.
|
Re: Project S14 240sx
Haha I'm gonna clean it up and put it on the wall of shame
|
Re: Project S14 240sx
Wasn't there some sort of bad vibrations at speed? There's just so much wrong with welding it like that....haha
|
Re: Project S14 240sx
Surprisingly enough, it didn't vibrate or make noise or anything at speed. I couldn't believe my eyes when I popped the cover off...

Re: Project S14 240sx
I got big brakes! :D
All taped up and ready to paint http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...t/P1010518.jpg The bracket bolted on http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...t/P1010519.jpg Old vs. New http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...t/P1010520.jpg old http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...t/P1010521.jpg New http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...t/P1010522.jpg It's a tight fit to the wheel... http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...t/P1010523.jpg |
Re: Project S14 240sx
Wow, that's a hell of an upgrade! You have a pic of the wheel with the rotor filling it up?
|
Re: Project S14 240sx
