Picked the car up at DB and it ran like butt all the way home. Obviously not as bad as before the intake was scaled but similar wild AFR swings. It's a scary feeling every time the car goes lean during cruise.

I'm going to try to install a shield/wind deflector over the filter tonight. There isn't a lot of clearance in the engine bay so I think there will be some Dremeling involved.

Nope, you're welcome here. I think what Aaron was observing is that you don't make many posts that don't mention your own car.

Don't you have the AMS intake shield?

I do but it was never installed (I have a catch can where that would have mounted). I was also planning to sell that intake once things are sorted.

I bought a shiny one. I'll take a look at some options for affixing it to the intake, perhaps I'll cut it down.

One funny thing is that the car idles perfectly, as if it doesn't have cams. It's really rich at idle due to the honking injectors so maybe that has something to do with it.

Due to your clogged fuel filter? What's your next moved after installing the new fuel filter?

The clean filter picked up 5psi but it still fell on its face.

My plan is afpr, BAP, and new fuel filter and then we'll try it again. That assumes I can figure out what's up with the intake (at least I assume that's the issue). I shouldn't be getting wild AFRs at cruise on the freeway. This intake did that when I drove it before it was scaled...it's better now but not close to good enough.

I have a fitting for the afpr setup ordered from Boomba and bought a BAP from DB today. I'll throw the BAP on this weekend. The other two when I have all the parts together.

Anyway, you trying to tune again soon?

My goal is to drop it off on the 13th. The BAP looks like a cake install but I'm not as good with fuel lines and fittings.

Looks like a blind monkey could install this thing. That is perfect for my skill level. :D

It's 40amp...total overkill but that's what DB stocks.

I cut down my intake shield and I should have left it a 1/2" longer. Crap. I hope it helps anyway.

And worth every penny!

Good luck and hopefully you get everything figured out!

Re: Evo X upgrades

Last night I got the afpr attached to the car after making a slight mod the bracket that simulatedwood had thrown together a while ago. I'll probably try to plumb it in next weekend.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...02010/afpr.jpg

Got the BAP installed early afternoon. Went out and did a pull and the car died in a fairly impressive way. Spent an hour troubleshooting and a support call to scheides but just had to replace the fuse for the fuel pump. It's a 20 amp fuse and the Bosch 044 at 17volts was probably trying to pull low 20's.

http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...2010/bap-1.jpg

For now I removed the step-up voltage feature. Not sure if I want to risk a larger fuse on that circuit or not. Maybe I need to find a properly sized resistor to turn the BAP down to 14-15 volts. Opinions?

The car continues to run poorly. P300's, o2 sensor slow, bank rich. I pull over to pull CEL codes once or twice on each drive. :(

Throw a 30-amp fuse in it.

I found a chart showing that the pump draws 17 amps from the BAP but the BAP needs almost 30 to work its magic. Given the gauge of the stock wiring, that's quite a draw...triple stock.

Re: Evo X upgrades

The stock pump gets closer to 14V with the engine running so you'll probably be doubling the amperage draw.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Thanks Kracka. I ordered a couple assortment packs of fuses off Amazon. I'll revisit that when I get the parts for the afpr install.

The car issues are disturbing my Zen so I think I'll read this month's DSport and chill out today.

Maybe not, I think there's an article on fuel pump setups in it:
