Oh wow, news to me, thanks. In other words, greasy water.

I'm with you there, especially in the heat down here I'd be much more comfortable with a 0W-30.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Awhile back I did some reading, and it seems like the additive package provides more protection than the hot weight of the oil. At the high racing temps, say 270*, there isn't that much viscosity difference between a 30W and 40W oil. I guess a 20W oil is a bit thin though.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your oil overfill issues. Glad they are making it right.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Good point! The additive packages these days are pretty incredible.

Sorry to thread jack about oil, Kracka. What I want to know is... how was the no lift to shift!?

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

NLTS is sweet. Since it's all computer controlled, what exactly does it change when you press the clutch but have the throttle down? Cut fuel and ignition? Does it actually leave the throttle body open?

Kracka 07-24-2014 07:03 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

From what I can tell it operates similar to Tephra's NLTS on the Evo 8/9 by using a variable rev-limiter with a X RPM drop above Y% throttle and Z MPH. With my oil slightly over-filled I didn't want to mess around with it too much since I've been trying to baby it until the oil level is correct; hopefully I'll have more of a chance to mess around with it this weekend.

Speaking of throttle body though...

Weapon-X ported throttle body :)

The stock TB is 87mm but has a very large lip in it for some reason, this one reuses the stock blade but is fully ported and smoothed. For now it's getting added to the stack of boxes in my office, but it will be a good addition to the AFE intake I also have waiting to go on. I got a great deal from a local who decided the C7 isn't for him so I didn't want to pass it up. The hold-up to get these parts installed is two things:
1. Waiting to get my oil change debacle solved.
2. Waiting on Diablo to release their AFE intake OTS map, at which point I'll also order the Diablo InTune (think Cobb Accessport for domestics).

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Good shit. Would be cool to see a dyno graph of stock vs. these mods. Any plans to go get a baseline done?

Kracka 07-24-2014 08:56 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I've been thinking about it, I probably should!

Here is what Weapon-X claims for the throttle body. Stock vs. stock + ported TB (no tuning):

Not bad at all. Im glad i did a baseline dyno on my car, kinda cool to be able to go back and see specifically your car and how it has changed.

Kracka 07-24-2014 09:14 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I'm going to talk to Cobb, they mentioned wanting to dyno my car vs. a 2014 Camaro SS at their next "First Thursday" event. That would be a great opportunity for a baseline.

Pretty healthy gains for just a TB and no tuning.

Kracka 08-07-2014 07:01 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

The final piece needed for my nice basic little setup! They are supposed to be releasing a specific OTS map for the AFE intake sometime today or tomorrow in addition to the current 93, 91, and modified-stock maps already available.

It'll be interesting to see what gains it will have with the intake.

Will they have anything in the future for the TB?

Kracka 08-07-2014 07:59 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Supposedly the stock ECU doesn't need recalibration for the ported TB. We shall see! This is a pretty common setup so luckily I'm not the first to try it out :)

JET 08-07-2014 08:11 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

What kind of gains have people been seeing from it?

Kracka 08-07-2014 08:27 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

For a stock car, about +20whp/+25wtq with just the 93-octane flash. With everything combined, we'll see once this AFE map is released :)

If I can dip out of work for a bit this afternoon I'm going in for a baseline dyno, and maybe do a pull with just the 93 map too if there's time.

Well, I will say this, you get what you pay for sir! Meaning, Cobb charges a lot but they make it easy and making it easy costs development time which means you pay more for it.

Is it that bad?

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Tells me its up to date, but locks my computer in the process so I'm left unsure and nervous about it. I even had my IT guy log me in as an administrator to ensure that my permissions weren't screwing with the process.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Didn't get a chance to try the Diablo tune since it wasn't playing nice with my work laptop, but once I got home on a different computer it updated just fine. Below are the results from yesterday:

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG1540.jpg

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG1546.jpg

386whp/406wtq
WHP is just a touch lower than I was expecting, but WTQ is about what I figured. For comparison, stock C7's are putting down 410-420whp on Dynojets.

It was easily 100F+ in the dyno room yesterday since it opens to the outside, not the air conditioned shop, plus Calvin had just finished tuning an Evo.

Overall, I'm very happy! Solid numbers for a stock baseline, plus it makes my X look that much more impressive (425whp/400wtq)!

Yup, but having 350lbs of TQ at under 2000RPM sure is sexy :D

AFE Momentum ProDryS intake & Weapon-X ported throttle body installed this weekend! I'm still waiting for Diablo to release their AFE intake OTS map, but when they do I will flash it on and take the car back to the dyno to see the gains.

Looks clean and subtle. I like it. If you didn't know any better you'd never even notice. That to me is how you can tell the good aftermarket stuff from the great stuff, when it can pass for OEM.

Kracka 08-11-2014 08:42 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I've been really impressed with AFE products. I ran their filter in my S2k, their Stage 2 intake in my X, and now their Momentum intake and only keep getting more impressed with their products as they progress. No aftermarket product is perfect, but theirs are as close as I've found. BMW guys take note, they make a ton of stuff for your cars too.

The car immediately started up and ran/idled just fine. Drivability is great; I am getting a little rev-hang between gears buy my X did the same with the ported TB and it just took the ECU a little while to learn & adjust for it. The car sounds even meaner now, throttle response is much improved, and the butt dyno tells me the parts are doing their job :)

GHEYRAY WILL OWN YOU!

Such a nice little setup, and the best part is you can sell it once you install the blower! :)
