He was creeping on here last night i saw when i was in a thread.
So is this car going to be tearing up RS/U at PG and the race car in whatever the big dog class is?

The way things are going the race car will not be there. I requested a Shep 300M TX case in Oct-Nov last year, every time I call I'm told I'm at the top of the list, they should show up in a month, they put the order in for new gear sets in Dec, I won't miss the race season...
With no confidant ETA in sight. IT SUCKS!

In the event that the race car is not ready I’ll be bringing the 6266 powered Evo. I’m not sure what I events I will enter?

Also, I heard that Swifty might have sold his car! So much for the race.

I feel ya on the ETA thing Ill probaably miss proving grounds because of it. At least you have to beasts to play with though Im sure the Evo wil DO WORK! Alot of big turbo evos should be there this year.

Wow it's been a while since I posted on this thread. The trailer and car are tucked away for the winter. I took the battery and injectors out. I'll be sending the 2150's back to FIC for a clean and balance. It was an uneventful summer! I thought I popped the head gasket, but turned out to be a faulty radiator cap. That’s it!

Re: Mark's Evo IX MR Winter Projects

Well I took my evo to bir for the 4th of july. First pass down the track and I poped the clip out on the clutch... no good, I was running an exedy hd twin disc. I never expected to run this clutch with the power I make but is been holding well to this point. I just got the car back on the road, changed the clutch out for a qm gear drive. l also ripped apart the transmission to install a billet output tube.

Re: Mark's Evo IX MR Winter Projects

I forgot to review how the car drives with the new clutch. I had a dsm qm for many years, and it made so much noise it wasn't even funny. The new gear drive is barely noticeable and is slightly louder than the exedy. driveability is very similar too. I'm super happy.

Oh and I needed to machine some of the throw out bearing to get it back in spec. It was like 0 clearance, it should be around 0.144 of clearance. Others have commented about this too, and some have toasted thrust bearings due to not measuring!

Re: Mark's Evo IX MR Winter Projects

Up at pg on Friday I made a pass to check trap speed, not launching the car, went 10.6 @ 142. I'll only get 1 more chance at a full out pass, as I was warned by track officials. Got the 2 step all dialed in and I'm going to try to launch it. If the 60 feels good I'll run it out. It would be crazy if it went 9's!

Thanks!

Had a great weekend, the weather was awesome, great times hanging out with everyone. I met all my goals of the weekend, get deep into the 10’s, go 140+, and win the class. I ended up running a best of 10.325@ 140 in the finals to win the RSU class.
I’m super impressed with the car, I never had do anything with the car all weekend. In comparison, when I run my talon it pushes about a ¼ to ½ a quart of oil in the catch can each pass. The Evo had nothing to drain.

As it turns out the Evo is not as well behaved off the line like my Talon is. I failed to get traction off the line when on the 2 step limiter. It would just immediately spin the front tires. I could have tried lots of different RPM points, but I ended up just free revving pretending I was leaving a stop light quickly.

I think with a ton of seat time I could get into the 9's, but it's not my goal. I'm 100% fulfilled with the low 10’s!

I could not get the embedded video to work, below is the link:

Does this have a cage? I don't remember seeing one.
It looked like a normal evo with rims and hoosiers, not loud or anything really noticable.

After your comments, you think you would do a drag evo over your talon?

It is a full weight street Evo, spare tire and jack in the trunk. No cage in it, hence the getting warned and only 2 full out passes in! BTW, the 1G Talon is the real car platform to drag!

Funny your non-drag car was faster than 95% of the cars out there even the drag cars and turbo V8 cars!

Mark have you taken the "Helper" spring out? I just did and it made the clutch feel a little better on the street. Apparently you dont need them with a hydraulic bearing, diagram 4:

I'm going to give that a shot. So did it make it harder to push down? I need to look in my 1g too. thanks for sharing! You going to make it out again this year, to get that 9? Cedar Falls is a great track to do it, the porky/midway shoot out or whatever the f*** they call it would be a good opportunity. The track hooks.

No talon outings for the rest of the year. I don't have time as my MBA is kicking my ass, good thing I'll have my degree in December!

My clutch has had enough haha. Without that little spring in there it feels the same pushing in, but releasing feels a lot better. Maybe it's in my head but it made it a little easier to take off slowly from a stop.

Re: Mark's Evo IX MR Winter Projects

The car has been still rocking along. It's been a reliable car, for the exception that I stripped teeth off of second gear about a year ago and I had to open up the aem ems to replace a low side driver for mivec control. Other than that not too bad for a 770whp car! The exaust is annoying loud, it's got 3.5" aluminum exhaust with vibrant mufflers. My little project was to quiet down the beast!

I decided to try to make a larger muffler, since there were no alternatives in aluminum.

I just finished it up and it did exactly what I wanted, it's got a deep tone with no more weird resonance, and it's very quiet. Should be a good summer!

I try to drive it as the main car in the summer. I still have my silver SE IX for all other driving. The qm clutch kind of sucks due to it wanting chatter on light take offs like in bumper to bumper traffic. The tune is refined so it will idle smooth in gear, it's nice for bumper to bumper drivability.

Re: Mark's Evo IX MR Winter Projects

It was time to switch up and improve my suspension. I was following schides recipe from his Evo. I bought a set of new bilsteins with some Swift spec-r's, I restacked the rear differential, installed a whiteline rear sway bar with whiteline bar links and larger brackets. The car looks way better lowered a little bit. What sparked all this was that my silver evo has a blown strut. It's going to get the bilsteins from my MR. I also bought a tatricx 2.0 cable to replace my 1.3 that died on me, I'm playing with ACD tunes now.

http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...812_081540.jpg

I also had really crappy looking brembo's, so I decided to repaint them. Evo M had a great write-up on refinishing. I never realized they sold 2K clear coat in a rattle can. The results were really good. I bought one of those paint code custom aerosol cans.

After I manually chipped off the failing clear coat:
