FWIW, during the build, I felt his turbo up with the dedication of a child molester -and liked what I felt. 2010 has not been your car year...

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Just an update, the car has been working fine! I have the little ass WRX turbo in place running at wastegate pressure and everything has been working great. The car boosts very quickly and breaks the wheels loose if there's anything under them other than dry pavement. All electronics have been working flawlessly and the car has been starting like a champ.
This Spring I think I'm going to spend a little money and get my rear suspension all sorted out and then throw another VF39 on it until the Evo is 100%. The next phase will be 68 HTA and (methanol injection or bigger injectors and E85) with a goal AWHP of around 350 or so which will be the end of power phases. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
68hta? Wouldn't that be closer to 400+?
I like this car. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
On a Dynojet yes, on a Dyno Dynamics more like 350. The HTA68 spools up like crazy on the 2.5l, but the top end falls flat due to the turbo just being maxed out. Good auto-x turbo.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
good to hear man! I like the idea of a 68hta on alky, fukin thing will be a stump puller and fun as hell!
|
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Bump to a great GC8 build!
I want to see this thing in the spring. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Thanks man! I would be happy to show you the suby this spring!

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Car ran quite fine over the Winter until I decided to turn the boost up. In early April I decided to turn the TD04 WRX turbo up from 7PSI to 1 bar. The car did not like this at all. The car reacted a lot like my GLH did when the plugs were gapped wrong and sometimes a lot more severe, backfiring and such.
So thinking the TD04 wasn't supplying the same amount of air at the same PSI and throwing off the tune I bought a VF39 and put that back in. Turned the boost back up to 20PSI and it was WORSE. The last few weeks I changed the plugs, did a compression test (120psi across), boost leak test, made a ghetto grounding kit and then finally resorted to taking it to DB and throwing it on the dyno last Thursday. With Shane's wideband we found out when it was hitting boost it would go VERY lean VERY quickly. Looking at the fuel pressure gauge in the engine bay it basically looked like something was pretty effed as it couldn't hold fuel pressure. We tried one of his FPRs, checking the voltage at the pump, changed the vacuum that was feeding the FPR, nothing worked. :( So... Friday I said fuck it and bought a Walbro 255 and installed that this morning and that fixed it. Good way to start the Summer :) |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Woot! Let'r buck for the cruise then maybe swap on the bigger (?) turbo for the dyno day!
|
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
^X2. Great thinking.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
I think I'm gonna get a new body for it next, been searching up a storm. I'm happy with this power, I just totally pwned a 2G GSX on the highway.
That and I'll be in London that weekend... |

Shawn, if you are at all interested in having this dyno'd, it could be arranged to leave me with the keys, and I could pick it up morning of and drop it off back home afterward... just a thought. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
FUUUUUCK I think I'm buying a WRB 98 2.5RS tomorrow for $3500, STAGE 2 SWAP HERE I COME.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
What's a stage 2 swap?
|
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Stage 2 of my voyage I mean, or Phase 2, however you want to put it :)

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Looks clean from that side. Nice.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Is that the ultra rare blue?
|
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Yeah only 700 of them made, I plan on putting my 99 bumper on and getting a V5 wing and then getting them painted to match.
I've also decided on replacing ALL of the bushings and dropping it to where it should be, basically making the suspension match the performance of the motor :) |

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Well I just want everyone to know I've bounced back and plan on learning from my mistakes and using this to make an even better Subaru.
I learned A LOT from my last build, like what a car does without an FPR :) And the chassis was a great starting point for this build but I knew right away it wouldn't be a good car for the final build and I would need a new chassis due to all of the cancer spots. With this chassis, it's getting everything Sarah didn't have. The suspension was tight in some areas and terrible in others thanks to the combination of stock 11 year old RS parts and newer STi parts. I basically want to make the suspension and handling BETTER than the engine performance, right now it was decent but I felt it was a little unbalanced and that's totally not my style. I would rather have a car that handles better than it goes in a straight line. I'm putting together a new list of parts still but I can say it'll have Group N engine/tranny mounts along with ALL new bushings. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Can you please name this one something better like Bernice?

Nope just Tarah.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
I just PMed a guy in the UK about picking up his V6 "boot" lid and spoiler, can't get any more genuine than that!
I'm on the prowl for morret's since they're common there. This is pretty much what my car will look like when done (minus my FMIC). http://www.iwoc.co.uk/images/p1/p1morette05.jpg |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
You doing those round headlights? That's the only thing i'd not do.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
I have devised a plan to get UK spec parts back :D Parts there are much cheaper for instance you can buy a V6 grill there for $16 USD vs here imported for $220.
