Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
20w50 is pretty thick...
|
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
for what is worth the visor on my talon recommends up to 20w 40. but you got balance shafts removed so you might not want crazy thick
|
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
All I've ever ran is 20w50... Never had any issues with it. Quite a few people run it in their DSM's.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I'm doing a tb swap soon here. Going to ditch this pile of shit 90 tb for a 92. Also ordered shaft seals and a biss screw and biss screw seal. Hopefully that will cure my car of all it's idling problems it's had since I got it 3 years ago.
I haven't really been working on mine much. I'm in the auto tech program here in Winona and my friend brought in his 92 Awd Talon that needs a lot of tlc so I've been doing a lot of work on that one. Today we plan on ripping out the ABS bullshit. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Brought the Laser into school today. Swapped throttle bodies but its still acting up. My only other thoughts are the fuel pump is clogged, fuel filter plugged, or something along those lines. It's just running too lean.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Finally got the thing tuned up right. Tested it out in the snow/rain and had some fun. Fwd is so pointless in the rain.....
Since I have a short week right now at school having thursday and friday off I'm just going to leave the Laser beam there and extract the broken studs next week. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Took a few random pics at school yesterday:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...6_Panorama.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...3_Panorama.jpg This is my friends Talon that I've been helping. Early 92 6/4 bolt 5 speed. Did some engine bay cleaning, battery relocation, abs delete, a/c delete and cruise delete. Just got the trans back in after doing a clutch job and figured out today that a leaky rotting intake manifold gasket is to blame for no idle. Gotta do a timing belt job soon too as his belt is REALLY loose. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10917.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10918.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10919.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10920.JPG |

Here's a sweet plug I found for all you guys running short route kits:

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I kinda like having the hole there. That's right where the middle of my air filter is, so it gets a nice shot of cool air through the hole.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I've been daily driving the DSM for the last few weeks and It's been running great. However, now that I've finished doing my G/f's water pump and timing chain replacement, I can put it away until I pick up the next round of upgrades. It's great but needs some suspension and brake work. Here's a list for this winter:
-Making a full exhaust for sure. Way too damn loud and it exits under the car causing all kinds of vibrations. -The shocks need to be changed at all 4 corners. I'm probably going to keep the Intrax lowering springs since I like the ride and stance, just not a fan of the floating and bouncing. -Also going to be upgrading the turbo. I want to go with something around what Twack has for a 50 Trim. I thought about the HTA68 but it's really expensive and I can get similar performance from a 50 trim without that stupid fucking J-pipe. -Even on my stock turbo I'm finding that the stock single piston brakes don't do much at 135 mph. I made a deal with a friend at school and I'll be getting a set of dual pistons off a 2g with calipers rotors and all the hardware I need. I'll turn the rotors at school and rebuild the calipers. -Going to try and pick up a full poly bushing kit for the whole suspension as well. Get the e-brake cables I need and get my e-brake working. That's the plan for January. Of course this is all subject to change. I'll know 100% when I get to that bridge. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I finally got my big brakes so I'm pretty excited to try those. However, it won't be on this car...

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Took the Laser out today and noticed it has a bad vibration on anything decelerating in gear. Accelerating in boost or not it's just fine. Clutch feels normal, but now there's a bad vibration when im off the gas and the engine is braking the car. Any ideas?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
....so has anyone else had their transmission to engine bolts work loose?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
loctite is your friend and almost never hurts
|
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
or just crush washers... although maybe that isn't apropriate for trans bolts.

I re-tightened the bolts at school yesterday but today I'm thinking I'll take some of my red loctite and pull each bolt out. Its nothing but my fault, I should have re-checked them after a few hundred miles but I didn't. Last time I messed with those bolts was last spring when I installed the 6 puck and painted the engine bay. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I've started taking everything out to pull the motor. Kind of a sad thing really but it's time to move on. The motor is going into my Awd Talon along with all my upgrades.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11205.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11204.JPG All I need to do is pull the axles and unhook the oil cooler. Hook the hoist up after I find some chains for it and unbolt the motor mounts. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Someone will be getting a clean shell to swap their stuff into!

The new owner came up today to get the shell:

Mostly the first few months that I had it, back when I was in high school. It has caused me so many headaches though.... |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Is the new owner the old guy?

I'm equally as sad to see it go, you've had that car forever. Hopefully the new car is even better.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
how much did you get for it?

Between this, and selling the NT 6 bolt out of the AWD, I have plenty to finish the car up. I just ordered an ACT solid 6 puck disc last night because I've gone through 3 discs due to the springs working themselves out. Basically I ended up only paying about 300 for the 91 Talon AWD. |
