The are supposed to start mailing them mid May, so should be pretty soon. I have an oil change in 4500 miles, I will just do it then.

Bye!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Z...529_203306.jpg

So my car overheated the other day on the way to work (it yells at you and goes in serious limp mode). I cleared the codes and took off the tune in the work parking lot in 18 minutes and then of course I couldn't get the thing to overheat again. I had to go to Cambridge tonight to my boy's baseball game and it overheated right before the exit. The electric water pumps like to go out, mine bit the dust just under 60k.

After a freaking 2 hour wait for the tow truck, it is on its way to BMW Minnetonka to get a new water pump. Roadside assistance comes with my extended warranty, so out of pocket will be $50 for the whole deal, not bad. Car sure did feel slow without the tune in it!

Yeah, not making these things look that enjoyable anymore.

Are there better electric water pumps for these?

Re: JET's 335Xi

That sucks :(

Is the tune untraceable i.e. nothing for the dealership/extended warranty company to void your warranty over?

Agree, the issues are not catastrophic, but plentiful and nagging issues.
- Electric Water Pump failures
- HPFP failures (covered by bmw extended warranty to 120k miles)
- Injector Failures
- Spark Plug and Coil Failures
- Direct Injection carbon issues

German over-engineering at it's finest.

They changed the design of the Injector for the N55, hopefully they are better than the N54. But yeah... like most "performance cars" they are not a Camry! :)

haha dsm issues!

Re: JET's 335Xi

I knew going in that there would be some issues and I am convinced it is a German thing. I have worked with 2 companies that had engineering based in Germany and it was impossible to try and speak reason to them, they knew it all. It if was failing in the field, then it was user error.

I knew going in there were a few issues with the cars, but it is nothing major and a few have had redesigns. The N55 is much better than the N54 for reliability, which is why I went with that. The water pump takes an hour to change out, so not a big deal in the future. Easier than the timing belt in a dsm. It didn't make my car undriveable to the point of stranding me, but would have delayed me to allow it to cool a little and the water pump to start working again. It was under warranty, so I just let them take it away.

I owned a BMW before, so I am used to these issues. I still wouldn't trade it for anything else around this price. The ride and power are exactly what I want. Although I am looking at a stage 1 turbo. Looks like about 40 - 50whp more on the top end. Dyno results will be out soon. That should get me to my 11 sec daily driver goal.

Re: JET's 335Xi

Without the warranty, i assume it would cost quite a lot just for the part itself + the labor at a dealer shop. I am already planning to have MAP to do a walnut-blast-intake on mine when it gets 45K.

Car is fixed and ready to go, cost me $50 :D

Re: JET's 335Xi

Warranty kicks ass!! I just googled a "how-to" on the water pump, just the part alone costs $400

Re: JET's 335Xi

Well time for an update! I just ordered one of these up, they had a group buy for 15% off and I couldn't pass it up. Don't tell the wife! :D Stage 1 turbo good for `40whp over stock and much more than that up top. Will hold 17psi to redline now instead of 10.

The best part is they give you full credit towards their stage 2 turbo when it comes out! They are shooting for 500whp with that one. Still stock housings but a different turbine wheel too. Probably going to need a FMIC soon and possibly a Cobb AP.

Didnt realise these ran Borgs from the factory, good shit man and loving the stock housing uograde options and their ability to reach 500whp. Wonder if MAP is going to start dabbling into wheel upgrades. At what point does the xfr case and trans need some attention? Wonder if running something like the light or heavy shockproof in the xfr case would br beneficial.

Re: JET's 335Xi

Nobody has found the limits of the stock drivetrain yet. Stock tranny is reliable to 500 wtq and starts heading downhill fast over 525 with 550 giving you about 20k miles. There are upgrade options though.

MAP is already dabbling some. I have been trying to get them to do one for months and after I jumped on this GB then Chris PM's me on FB :P These guys are on rev 2 and holding 2psi more up top that the other stage 1 out there.
