Yeah most likely for the time being. I may pick up some t-bolts later once I tear out the pipes again to get them powdercoated. Would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. :)

Re: Greetings MitsuStyles! Kracka recruits yet another one!

Scheduled a tune with Cobb Tuning Plano for Noon on 10/30/2010! Pretty excited to get my car finally finished (performance-wise). I'll be going over to Kracka's in the morning before my tune to install a 3port and BOV and then we'll carefully driving over to Cobb (~25min). A few hours later and I should have the finished product! Can't wait to see how well the car does.

I'll be getting a 93oct map as well as a 91oct map that I can use to get around during road trips in case 93 isn't readily available. I'm hoping for at least 330whp. An NTEC member just got tuned last Friday and made 340whp/356wtq on 93! Those are pretty amazing numbers for just basic bolt-ons (stock o2/dp actually). If I can get anywhere near that, I'll be a happy man. :)

25mins? Might want to see if someone can zero out your wgdc tables so you can safely drive it there at wastegate boost.

So would you recommend just doing both swaps while outside Cobb? I drive pretty conservatively as it is, only step on it when I need to pass people or taking on ramps. Of course, I wouldn't be able to do that if I do the part swaps at Kracka's place.

The 3port is a big upgrade. I overboosted when I installed a better BOV (never know when you'll have to hit the gas to avoid an idiot). I'd install them in their parking lot...it's an easy job and it's actually warm where you live. lol.

First time ever installing a 3-port was on my WRX, it took about 10 minutes is all. It would be an easy parking lot job if you choose that route.

Yeah, I've gone over the instructions multiple times and it's a really easy job as they include instructions for the Evo 8/9's as well as the 10's. :)

Oh and I've decided to name my car Deadmau5X, hence the change in my avatar as well. :D

Re: Greetings MitsuStyles! Kracka recruits yet another one!

So I just got tuned by Cobb Tuning Plano and the results are staggering! The initial plan was to install a GrimmSpeed 3port and a Synapse Synchronic BOV. Due to some unforeseen issues getting the Synchronic installed, Kracka and myself said screw it and just left the stocker on. After that, we drove over to Cobb (staying out of boost) and then let Calvin work his magic. All I can say is that guy knows exactly what he is doing as you'll see by my results.

So part of the process in doing everything in the order I did was to see how Cobb's OTS maps compare to their protunes. I'd have to say the OTS maps are pretty conservative but give the user enough to be happy with. Here is a break down of how my tunes went along with the mods at the time:

AMS FMIC, UICP, Intake
HKS catback

Results:
Stage1 AMS OTS 93oct: 305hp 291tq 20.6psi

http://accessecu.com/dyno/graph.php?...rgb1=000000255

Once I got protuned:
Stage1 AMS 93oct Protune: 317hp 322tq 24.5psi

http://accessecu.com/dyno/graph.php?...rgb1=000000255

My next step was to throw a test pipe on there and flash to Stage2. I also changed out my catback and went with the Specialty-X because I REALLY like the design and it looks just so nice. This was perfect as I used the NTEC Dyno Day to see what the Stage2 map would look like. I ran into an issue getting the stock cat off so Cobb was very generous and swapped out my cat for the testpipe at their facility. Calvin said that it might overboost with the testpipe even on a Stage2 map, so I decided to run the car with the Lowered Wastegate map just to be on the safe side. So here's the full mod list and results for THAT dyno run:

AMS FMIC, UICP, Intake
Specialty-X catback
Megan testpipe

Results:
Cobb Stg2 AMS 93 OTS LWG: 315hp 323tq 23psi

http://accessecu.com/dyno/graph.php?...rgb1=000000255

Kind of disappointing that it came out practically the same as the Stage1 protune but I expected that with the OTS maps having to be conservative so that they work for everyone.

So this brings us to today. There were a couple more changes to the setup but the only real key change was the GrimmSpeed 3port. The other addition was an AMS LICP, which has been said to not provide any gains. So why get the LICP...well I plan to get my piping powdercoated so I want to do the whole set. So once again, here is the full mod list for today with the results:

AMS FMIC, UICP, LICP, Intake
Megan testpipe
Specialty-X catback
GrimmSpeed 3port

Results:
Cobb Stage2 93oct Protune: 343hp 358tq 26psi
http://accessecu.com/dyno/graph.php?...rgb1=000000255

I am extremely happy with the results. I didn't know how much I'd make, but I was thinking around 330hp/340tq. As you can see, I made quite a bit more. My goal from the beginning of my mod process was to end up at around 330whp....my goal has been met! :)

I would just like to thank all the staff at Cobb Tuning Plano for their continued awesome customer service and expertise, especially Calvin. He's the one doing all the magic on the dyno. Thanks also go out to Kracka who's helped me along the way both with discussing things/issues and for lending a helping hand. {thumbup} to everyone!

It's cool dude. Now that the car is done performance-wise, I can give you that ride in it that you've been wanting. :D

Added links to Cobb's Dyno database that shows the graphs of each of my tunes and dyno runs to my post (this one: http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/sho...&postcount=129). Once the data from yesterday is uploaded, I'll swap the picture I took with the nice online graph.

Well, it looks like my powdercoating plans will have to be delayed for a week or 2. I'll be helping Kracka install his MAP FMIC this weekend. I was originally wanting to garage my car (which for me means putting it in the backyard, lol) this weekend and start ripping out the IC piping and the intake so I could set up an appointment with the local powdercoater the following Saturday. However, due to Kracka's accelerated modding plan, I'll have to put that on hold for a week or so (which is fine by me...more driving around with the fresh tune :D).

I finally decided that I'm going to do a metallic/glossy/pearlescent blue (basically, whatever color matches the car's paint more closely). I'm going to see if the guy can color match my oil cap so that everything will match pretty closely.

I went ahead and painted the red part of the engine cover a glossy black and I think the engine bay looks MUCH better that way. The blue piping will really pop now.

Since you have an `08 you should just powdercoat the valve cover and ditch that thing. Looks a lot better imo.

Cover up your battery terminal fool :P Or, its getting painted. Cool :)

IMHO leave the parts shiny, bling bling!

I don't want to mess with doing a wire tuck and getting a cover to put over the coils. I actually like the engine cover to be honest. :)

Actually, Cobb forgot to put it back on after my tune. Kracka actually painted his and mine black this past Saturday as we were both going to do that anyways. Hopefully Cobb didn't throw it away wondering what it was since it's not red anymore. I hope to make it to their 1st Thursdays of the month meet and reacquire my battery terminal cover. :)

I'm not doing either on mine. Nobody told me that was required. ;)
