Sweet!!

Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Looks really good!

Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
nope they are S1's. The torque curve tested back to back on a similar supra was way higher and way sooner on the power band and that's what I wanted. S2s are for higher rev higher higher hp with bigger turbos and this s1 will help the streetability alot. I'll post links later.

Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Comparos would be cool to see for sure! S1's are great cams too for sure...sorry with the awesome idle control and mivec of the X I just get wrapped into the mentality of 'go big or go home' on cams and forget that a milder cam is still a fantastic choice for a lot of cars.
Specs on the S1's look dandy! |
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
I know you were telling me certain cams on the 2JZ's make it interference, will these S1's have enough lift to do that?

Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Here is the cam test that was done.
http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...-S2-vs-HKS-272 Here is copy paste from the link Camshaft test GSC S1 and S2 vs HKS 272 Camshaft test GSC S1 and S2 vs HKS 272 Test Mule: 94 6spd mkiv stock long block 2JZGTE stock intake manifold GSC Single Spring Valve Spring using stock retainers Titan Cam Gears Precision 67MM Turbo .81 Exhaust housing (Journal Bearing) HKS Header and 50mm Wastegate. 3” DP and Mid Pipe Greddy 4 Row AEM EMS with HKS DLI HKS Ti 4" exhaust Fuel: C12 (same 10 Gallons was used for all testing) Dyno: DynoJet 224X 2wd dyno Boost: 24psi tapering to 22psi (this was consistent with all the camshafts) Timing and Fuel: Timing was the same for all camshafts. i did not adjust the timing table I only verified the base timing off the crank and the AEM EMS after each cam install. Fuel was set to 11.6AFR under boost and was consistent with all camshaft sets. A new set of NGK 6097s which were gapped at .024” were installed for the test. Degreeing in camshafts and Valve Clearance: The HKS Camshafts call for a .008” intake and .010” exhaust clearance (this was set across the board correctly) GSC camshafts use a looser clearance of .010”intake and .012” exhaust (this was set across the board correctly) Each set of camshafts were degree’d to the manufactures specs exactly… HKS 272: 114 Intake , 114 Exhaust GSC S1: 107 Intake , 116 Exhaust GSC S2: 110 Intake , 120 Exhaust HKS 272 VS GSC S1: HKS 272 (Green) vs GSC S1 (red) HP Only http://gscdownloads.com/2JZ-Camtest/HKS272_S1_HP.jpg HKS 272 (Green) vs GSC S1 (red) TQ Only http://gscdownloads.com/2JZ-Camtest/HKS272_S1_TQ.jpg HKS 272 VS GSC S2: HKS 272 (Green) vs GSC S2 (Blue) HP Only http://gscdownloads.com/2JZ-Camtest/HKS272_S2_HP.jpg HKS 272 (Green) vs GSC S2 (Blue) TQ Only http://gscdownloads.com/2JZ-Camtest/HKS272_S2_TQ.jpg GSC S1 VS GSC S2: GSC S1 (red) vs GSC S2 (Blue) HP Only http://gscdownloads.com/2JZ-Camtest/S1_S2_HP.jpg GSC S1 (red) vs GSC S2 (Blue) TQ Only http://gscdownloads.com/2JZ-Camtest/S1_S2_TQ.jpg All Three Together: GSC S1 (red) vs GSC S2 (Blue) vs HKS 272 (Green) HP Only http://gscdownloads.com/2JZ-Camtest/S1_S2_HKS272_HP.jpg GSC S1 (red) vs GSC S2 (Blue) vs HKS 272 (Green) TQ Onlyhttp://gscdownloads.com/2JZ-Camtest/S1_S2_HKS272_TQ.jpg |
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Wow, amazing results! Thanks for sharing. The S1's are the obvious choice in from that comparo IMHO, although you gotta wonder what an aftermarket intake manifold would do to that test.
Good data, you'll have a phat powerband no matter what! |
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
yes the 2jz stock is a non interference motor but becomes interference once internals or cams are changed. I have tryed to find out the exact point where the motor becomes interference and all i found which was not 100% verified was a cam larger then a 264. Also things like different pistons and valves will change it as well. since the GSC S1's are about a 269, I have custom 9.5:1 pistons and 1mm oversized valves I am guessing that it is now an interference motor. That is why I got a billet Stainless steel timing tensioner, gates racing timing belt and ALL new timing components. Us 4g63 guys run with the interference motors every day so whats new right?

Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Got my modded oil pump by Sound Performance thanks to MAP!
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...oil_pump_2.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...oil_pump_1.jpg It starts as an OEM Toyota oil pump. This is from SP's website. This includes a new Toyota oil pump. We then take that and modify to increase pressure and prevent the front main seal from blowing out. What is done to it? We shim the main pressure spring Drill a larger return hole Drill and tap 3 set screws to hold front main seal in Shorten (tighten) main seal spring I guess there are problems blowing off the main seal under high HP. Not no more :) |
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Looks like you made the right choice in cams to me. And good call sticking with the stock TB, but that may cause some uproar from the Evo X folks :D !!! I keed I keed :)
Thumbs up for doing your research and picking your setup based on your goals! |
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
^LOL! A quick search shows that the stock mkiv supra TB is ~65mm...ironically the size we are all gunning for w/ these ported stockers :) I approve!
|
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
no 75mm TB no care.
|
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
The stock intake manifold sucks at making top end power anyways, so no need for big TB or big cams. Most Supras pretty much run the pussiest aftermarket cams known to man, how often do you hear one actually loping... They used to be all scared to run anything with any lift because it makes them into an interference engine, then they would actually have to replace the timing belt and tensioner before they just break from old age.

Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Maybe all 2jz owners should own a dsm first to realize that interference is no big deal!
|
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
I am a DSM owner and I think it is a big deal.
|
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Just keep up on the timing components and use quality parts. Simple as that right Aaron?
|
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
Its the truth. But it would be nice to have the option to be a lazy piece of crap and have no consequence.
So now that we are past that, and the fact you are running pussy cams and no big TB. What are you hoping for on the dyno? Being auto I don't see you needing too much over 600-650 to hit a 9 and I know that turbo on a supra will do over 800whp all day. Have you done any trans work? |
Re: 6 cylinders & 2 turbos, for now
I'll be sending the trans out next. I'm planning on 700 minimum but otherwise 800+ would be kind of nice too. I don't see a pro lem hitting any of the numbers really.
