Nice, that looks awesome, now I see how the drivers side motor mount bolts on with those three top bolts.
Question though, how do you get the larger bolt going down to secure? It looks like it's going into an empty tube, do you have a nut welded to the bottom side to thread into? Sorry for the noob questions, just trying to learn. Is it common to bolt to the front side of the block at the power steering holes (for tube front ends like this)? |

Yes there is a nut welded on the bottom side of the cap I made for the tube welded onto the frame rail. I do not know what is "common" for a tubular front end, but I have heard of people having issues cracking the 2.0 block around the #1 cylinder near where the driver side motor mount bolts onto the block. This would indicate its possible for the high hp AWD guy's to think twice about cutting down the driver side mount to just the timing belt side of the block for support. I figure I had to make a mount anyways, if it helps or not, I do not know.

Did you plan and know you were going to do a tube front end this whole time? This is butter, I love mandrel bends! Looks great keep up the good work, love your custom manifolds.

From looking at Shep's and Brent's cars up close it has been in the back of my mind brewing. Then about a little over a month ago I really looked at the front of my car and decided this is the route I would take. This does work to the end all goal, so its a nice step in the right direction of light, strong, and easy to work on. If I knew I was going to remove the front of the car I would have gone a different route on the exhaust manifold but it will work just fine.

Going for the fastest GVR4 in the world? Or just looking to do some pulls on 94 against the local mustangs. :) That thing would rock with a 16g on it, Full Spool at 2 rpm.

^ Have you not read this thread at all lol? I can't speak for John but I highly doubt he is building a tube chassis front end GVR4 with an air-to-water intercooler to race the local Mustangs on 94. :) Nor will a 16g ever be put on this car...

Yes the intent of the build is to take the #1 slot for the gvr4's. Street racing, not so much anymore but I do plan to show up at porky's and other local events with it. And no on the 16g, nothing smaller the GT4202.
And the update: front end is almost all finish welded, I need to drop the front sub frame to do the rest. And most of the inside is finish welded also, I have about 2 more hours of welding then its on to dash and filling holes. ~John |

A few pages back there is a pic of the car missing the front end and a weired looking tube and plate structure. The tube an plate structure was made BEFORE the front of the car was removed and the new front built to it.

Now the hole cage, front end structure is finish welded and gussets added where needed. We made a new mount for the steering wheel. And finished up the strut mounts. I have made the mounts for the engine dyno but a project at work has taken up the engine dyno for a few weeks so I still need to make the bell housing and run coolant hoses. I also finished up the exhaust manifold and intake manifolds, now I just need to flatten the head flanges and they will be good to bolt on. I will snap a few picks of the progress in the next few days. On the intake manifold I welded some big bungs to the bottom portion of the runners close to the plenum, then drilled 2 injector holes next to each other at an angle. So the 8 1600's will be my secondary's and the AEM will think they are 3200cc injectors with an external injector driver box. Then I will use a set of smaller injectors at the stock location for idle and low throttle.
